Life Advice / Re: Third party liability?

Just to note it again, I do not take cases online, this is not a client relationship, but rather a referral to a bar association.

You require an attorney, who is not me, and who is licensed in your area. You should call your local bar association for a referral.

When the person at the bar answers the phone or reads a message, it will help them to know the basics. That way they may give you to the proper type of attorney who is licensed in your geographic area and subject matter (type of problem you have).

1.) Will depend where you are located. Clearly. In the United States, bar associations are often at the county level, in addition to state.
2.) Politely summarize your story  to give to the legal secretary answering the phone, etc.
3.) Applicable rules.

This one is a major issue and believe me, is incredibly complicated, and depends on multiple national, state, academic legal, and perhaps company policy matters. Negotiable instruments was actually a separate section on the bar exam. Simply, it isn't simple.

Money orders are complicated "negotiable instruments," governed legally, administratively, and regulatorily at the state level, with odd academic things called "restatements" by law professors that aren't the law, but may be used in creating and interpreting the law (they aren't enforceable but legislatures may or may not rely on them or parts of them when drafting law that is). That doesn't even get into case law precedent....

You may want to explain to the bar association when and where you got the money order (i.e. ABC supermarket), if they used an outside service (i.e. Western Union Moneygram, etc), and how things occurred. It is possible though not guaranteed, that some lawyers may give you a short consultation period to discuss the matter. I recommend coming prepared with some notes, and any document copies you may have. Furthermore, it is unfortunate and I would say unfair, that this may or may not be economically in your best interest to pursue, based upon possible recoverable damages, and legal considerations. This is often as frustrating to the attorney as to any given client, if not moreso. Further, you may ask if there is a regulatory agency that deals with these matters. For example, the State Attorney General, Department of Commerce, or, though it is currently undergoing several issues, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This is a question for the attorney the bar association refers you to though, not me.

Again, not taking any cases or dispensing advice, but rather a referral to the bar association. No client relationship has been created.
I hope this referral may have been of assistance. Have a nice day.

[Please do not quote: For some measure of decency].

.... First, calm down.

This is an exception. I am not posting on boards currently, because people aren't nice. It poses a risk to me and they don't care. That stated, I'm the moron who's lost well over $1M and climbing for doing the right thing so far. I'm even more of a moron for having a soft spot for innocent people being exploited through no fault of their own. If outed & harmed for having a conscience, then I suppose that would be the inevitable result of attempting to be decent in an indecent world.

As for the PM, I was busy. You'll be ok if you  kept your hands clean, and properly documented the truth.

Relocation & Remedy: "transfer to another department."
Several factors to consider, department within same building, or different location? Commute, family/social in location, and reporting for possible retaliation (e.g. who do you call both locally and at corporate level if somebody messes with you?) This should be your focus on this issue here for now.

Retaliation: If you have halfway competent HR, and legal departments they will protect your identity for as long as possible, and you yourself after that point.

Referral: Proper referral made.

Breathe. Concerning posting, discretion is the better part of valor.

Or just remove the author and date line, like shown.
That's not acceptable to me, because it doesn't specify who I'm quoting.

So there's basically no way this is going to work? You make your judgment, explanations & risk to others aside, and there's no persuading you of using any different standard? Got it.
Choose; Ignore others; they pay the price, not you; continue disregarding.... Any further discussion or attempts to persuade will likewise just add to it.
Purposefully ignoring preferences, and feelings is neglecting determinate variables. More simply, it's neglecting humanity and being humane.
Persuading, educating, discussing, addressing objections to overcome them, why do those things when someone else can be forced out? That's basically all my fears of AI.

I've explained the numerous points behind that simple, harmless request in detail so many times that other people know it very well.

Please do not... is decency something the internet or humanity wants anymore...?
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ah, AI: Replacing humanity, eliminating control/preference, ad homineming any opposition. "Res ipsa loquitur" Latin for "the thing speaks for itself."

Considering another side to an argument? Overcoming fears, doubts disagreements? Does not compute?

I will never trust the law enforcement that this wasn't Uber's fault. Even if the law is perverted to reach this end before possible revolution....

I will never trust an AI without incredible restrictions with these as the example of the SMALLEST of precautions, set to automatically go off, with several over redundant remote activators if it so much as considers anything I MAY not like. Also I demand an activator set as a deadman switch:

To avoid this:

If I'm crazy, then so was Stephen Hawking:

Now if we could ever get to star trek, that'd be one thing I'd support, but I don't quite trust that happening, at all.

This is awful: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/father-sues-boy-scouts-america-rejecting-15-year-old-son-syndrome-autism-eagle-scout-153042248.html

Don't lead the kid on for years and then pull the rug out from under him. They knew from the beginning what the situation was and were ok before. End of the line and then he's just retroactively screwed? I'm just very tired of a "results" focused society. Look, the poor guy is ... well ... I mean he's how he is.... The point is he's trying. At some point, there are people of all ability levels. This guy is trying his best and if nothing else, keeping out of trouble. That last point, "keeping out of trouble" is major. There are too many people causing all kinds of issues with ... pick a problem really... drugs, crime, etc. Here's some poor guy who's keeping his nose clean and doing the very best he can within his unfortunately limited capabilities. Sure, it's more of an honorary thing, but ... don't tell me everybody didn't know that from the beginning.

Just because the poor guy ... isn't going to be an astronaut ... doesn't mean they shouldn't carve out some small place of him in society. He's got a tough enough road ahead of him. We all do, really....

Hi.

Ok, so quiet PM aside.... You wanted math?

We're all in flatland. Click the spoiler....

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ants: (If you want the details, click the spoiler for the quasi math stuff. I think it's worth it anyhow).
Imagine an ant living and perceiving its 2D world only length and width, NO HEIGHT. Now we know there is height, but this ant simply can't perceive it. It's the same as not being able to see colors without eyes, hear sound without ears, etc. In our universe that 2-D universe is 3-D & we are ant, we're also in hyperspace (4D, 5D, 6D), but we can't perceive it anymore than the ant can perceive height. That's why we can only think and imagine about the 5th dimension, just as the ant here can't think about height. We already understand 4 dimensions, e.g  when you meet a friend you specify the coordinates in 3 dimensions,  plus the time the meeting will take place. Those CDs or books on the shelf are each a universe as perceived by someone. They can't see any of the dimensions, because they are trapped on one and can't seem to connect to any other.

They're lost in their own little world that revolves around them. They're "the customer," the ______. That's all they can think about, just like the "monarch of point land."

What, why, and how I've been saying things here:

You may have noticed some of the things I said before, about choosing, and certain things like this, " The fool is beneath you and numerous. They feel, and don't think. Think and rise.... Learn to observe the world and perceive it without letting it alter you. This is the key. Understand. Observe. To attain the birds' eye is to turn a blizzard to a breeze." I mean that literally in a mathematical sense but in a way most people may simply can't understand through no fault of their own. Again, we are stuck in flatland.

Read what I wrote again with the above in mind....
TheBiggerFish's z level reference was more spot on than he may have realized.

5th dimensional response. Meditation as alternate choice (imagining stimuli)
6th dimensional response analysis. Taking into account other probabilities beyond self.
5th and 6th dimensional denial don't help. Sadly, people do it; it's bad for everyone.

So, to unify and oversimplify prior statements, without repeating myself more than needed: it's recognizing .... Awareness itself is enormous. That awareness enables different actions. While we may be flowing through time (4D) one way, our ability to perceive it, our probability (5D) and other probabilities (6D), may itself alter how things go by informing our responses and perhaps stimuli (even if only imagined/believed).  I have several lines along my graph of time and probability at the end of the day, but say I've got two: one I stress out over terrible things I have no control over and another where I imagine something far better. I'm laying in bed either way.... Even if the imagining is the only thing I can control, one clearly gives a different outcome than the other, within the restrictions i operate under. That's the perception. Does that help at all?

Breathe. Just breathe. As long as you exist, you can make some changes, whatever those may be (big or small).
First question, are you ok to the point you're not in danger now? Long as that answer is "yes, I am ok for the time being," things can work....
Somehow, this just happens to be when I decided to complain about my heater.... Anyhow.....

Does not compute or make sense or add up mathematically.

Are you a mathematical person?
Would you like it explained in a ... quasi mathematical manner?
(I could do it in proofs, but that's cruel and unusual punishment).

If you want, I can get into some more of the stuff I was telling you and why dimensional analysis makes it work.
Anything I said before help you at all?

Yup. Good to see you here. You understand, "the rules" are the rules, but getting them consistently is maddening. Certainly not easy.

Good to see you getting some type of recognition.

For whatever it's worth. I wish that didn't happen. Sounds awful.

It is just frankly terrible that we're only focusing on "results" expected (created god knows how). There's dignity, decency, and several other things missing today. It's very odd to me. In the early 2000s, I had the feeling that if you kept your head down and did your job, people would leave you alone. Today, that appears to be less the case.

Everyone wants what everyone wants. That's literally impossible. It's part of my fear of how technology is progressing.
Simply, it should make the average, and every, person's life better, not worse: star trek, not blade runner.

Specifically in your case, endure as best you can. I avoid saying "I'm sorry" because somehow an expression of empathy has become an admission of guilt. Sign of the times.....

Do what you can; hang in there. Know you are not alone; people here, at least, care. We may not be able to do much about it, but all the same. It is something.

I think I might have to. Though I am honestly just laying in bed resting my eyes a lot. Also, watching some of the star trek shows. I love how they applied technology. Even in the face of some real problems, and while bending some major rules, they at least tried and I think that's a major thing.

I'm not sure I know what that is. I have Skyrim and finally a computer that can actually play it.... The scenery is beautiful. The game itself isn't bad either overall.

Overall, it's a stressful time. Thank you all. I appreciate the idea of actually having some kind of sounding board/friends.

Drained, I liked creativity that is now tiring. I am at once sorely needed, and told not needed, because I am not a genie in a bottle. I'm simply a decent enough person who is tired of fighting, rather needlessly. People fight, there's rarely a point. They don't accomplish their goals that way or at all. It's destructive, not constructive.

My decency is seen as weakness. Don't they see? It isn't a war, or a gun, or force that's to be feared here. It's paper, several well written pieces of paper saying things that will not be good on them. Medical, legal, etc, these are the incredibly important things. Force, posturing, and "fronting" doesn't help when someone or something comes knocking.
