Play With Your Buddies / Re: Primordia - A Minecraft LP

I don't think the Primordia generator gives you any wood anywhere. This is kinda game-breaking, because even if there's loot in the ruins/etc, no wood means no torches to get to it. I think the only way you can actually do anything in Primordia is to InvEdit in some saplings and dirt and start a tree farm (for minimal cheating, of course).

It'll be brutal on your score...but if you're about to go to Cydonia and you just realized your star player has a bravery of 10, a little friendly fire might be worth it.

The training method you just described is essentially forcing a soldier to execute innocent people at point-blank range until they become completely desensitized to murder and violence. Just in case I forgot what forum I was on. :D

The "official" 7DRL Challenge started on the 5th, but this is a separate entity.

I'll probably be starting on the 14th, if I can come up with an idea. :P

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Naming conventions

I have a couple habits. I always name the starting 7; sometimes after their preferences or last name, but more often I name them all after the 7 Wonders of the World. I always assign custom professions to important military people (usually "Capitaine"), and I always always always name my bookkeeper Roland.

My favorite soldier just took two plasma bolts to the chest and it didn't even faze him. This is the first game I've made it to personal armor, and I love it.

Some of it actually hit me in the face right before the server kicked us.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

Haven't played in months; waiting for bugfixes, etc. So I downloaded 31.20 today, cracked my knuckles, and generated a new world with maximum minerals.

My civ's name: the Swords of Scarring. My fortress's (randomly-generated) name: Siegesmith. My dwarves' group name: the Crab-Town of Incinerating.

It's like I'm playing again for the first time. :D

Is the title music supposed to remind me of Saints Row 2/50 Cent: Blood on the Sand? Because it does. :P

Doors will block water, but they won't let water through even if they're open. AFAIK the only way to make something resembling a "floodgate" is with sand and torches (torch holds up the sand, water knocks out the torch, sand falls down).

Other Games / Re: Games like "Inside a star filled sky"?
« on: March 05, 2011, 08:14:44 pm »
Actually, it's not that hard to implement from a programming standpoint; each of the objects just serves as a "link" to a map built off its information. The tricky part is designing it to make sense, since it's so different from pretty much anything else. My problem with Inside a Star-Filled Sky, I think, was that it made too much sense, and therefore quickly became boring.

I'm not entirely sure. Minecraft is calling it "Xaiwaker V1.4," but that doesn't sound familiar at all. It's pretty, though. :D

Robinson Crusoe times seven made short, left in the wilderness to live and find nature's treasure; iron is mined, swords are forged, the blood of goblins carpets the halls. Deeper! calls the overseer. Ever deeper! Within the earth's bowels, a blue shine: deeper, ever deeper, and then everybody dies messily.

My happy forts are because I systematically inflict psychological horrors on every immigrant untill they get the "Doesn't really care about anything" descriptor, only then are they granted access to the fortress proper.

That's pretty disturbing, can I get a tutorial?

Keep a surplus of puppies (which you'll most likely have anyway, if you have any mating pairs of dogs). Lock migrants outside when they come; assign each of them a puppy or two to keep as a pet. Drop the puppies outside through a tube. Impale them. If there are any children in the migrant wave, impale them. If there are any pets in the migrant wave, impale them. Now let the migrants stew in their misfortune; watch the tantrum spiral! Let it heal naturally, then wait until the migrants have made friends with each other. From each circle of friends, leave one survivor.

If that doesn't do the trick, let them in anyway, because they probably didn't have emotions in the first place.
