Curses / Re: More evil Conservative buildings.

I don't think I'd like seeing Liberals shoot up the church. I mean, sure, they don't like religion interfering with politics and personal freedoms, but shooting up a church wouldn't help... no, it's not the right answer.

The right answer is the Camp <Jesus/Moses/Eliah/Crusade/Camping/Trinity/Rapture/Fagless>! It's a center of Conservative religious fanaticism where children are being brainwashed with mythical propaganda. Free children from the horrors of the conversion, fight crusaders and angry priests and redirect the Camp's TV system to show Penn & Teller instead of carefully filtered Cable News Children's shows.

EDIT: I'm working on a site, actually (forgot to mention). An Epic Conservative Film Studio, producers of horrifying loads of crap in addition to the "critically" acclaimed FlagMan Series!

I think that politicians occasionally taking a peek at public opinion is more intuitive than the current system.

I assume you're playing on a compiled version on a Linux or other UNIX-like system, because I think the sitemaps.txt have always worked out of the box on Windows. If I recall correctly, Carlos Gustavos made some fixes to the installation process, so some of these steps are or should be unnecessary, but might work. Try them in order.

First, check if you have sitemaps in your trunk/art directory. Convert it to UNIX line endings - the most common commands for that are "dos2unix" (in most systems, I think) and "fromdos" (in Ubuntu and possibly others). Try whether it works by running crimesquad.

If it didn't, try running crimesquad from the trunk folder. This shouldn't be necessary since CG's changes (at least it's no longer necessary at my end) but if it fixes the problem, at least you get to play while pondering about it. Try whether it works.

If it didn't work either, see if you have an lcs directory at /usr/local/share/lcs . This too should be unnecessary, but if the two previous fixes didn't work, try copying your sitemaps.txt to /usr/local/share/lcs/art/sitemaps.txt (you will probably need to sudo).

I have one page in my sleeper list completely reserved for judges, another one for death squad officers, one for AM and Cable crew and three pages for various other guys...

It must've been quite a long ago, because I think currently if a sleeper has no specific issue attached they will impact a random issue. Also, as I said, having a single issue C+ while the others go L+ is very improbable because the Congress has double the power of public opinion. Especially if the Supreme Court is no longer C+, having the pollution laws consistently remain C+ is nearly impossible.

^ That's what I thought.

And yes, as people have been saying that the bilpolarity of LCS politics is intentional for a few days now, I think I'd be idiot if I hadn't understood that yet. From a pure gameplay point of view, variety would be nice, and as I've said a few times already, Jon's suggestion will provide such variety without hurting the satire.

You don't have to create a new thread unless you want to, and I doubt anyone's going to be mad for you posting that here. Besides, the title of this thread is "LCS Mods" - people expect to find at least two here, and thanks to you, we're halfway there!

Well, the country I live in does not share such bipartisanship, and to be honest, I though American politics were somewhat moved by smaller subparties as well (such as the Log Cabin Republicans, in LCS terms conservatives with liberal gay views). However, what Jon suggested is good in my opinion, and I don't believe it ruins the satire; It'll not only be a parody of bipartisanship, but populism as well. That's something even Europe can afford!

You asking for MY strategy? You had it coming... (note, I know this is not the fastest or even the best strategy, just the one I find fun)

Founder is an intelligent, charismatic and agile person (just like myself, coincidentally). Security skill is important, other skills aren't important. Founder's first task is to recruit a (preferably) male high-charisma character, the "Black Widow". Lawyers are optimal - they're easy to recruit, often have some charisma and know how to defend themselves in the likely event of a prostitution sting or datenap failure. The Black Widow should train seduction by prostituting, and the funds may be used by the Founder to train various skills that will be needed in the world of Liberal Covert Action - disguise, driving, dodge (for the tight spot), psychology, science and clean-my-name skills persuasion and law. Founder should also create tons of T-shirts for sale to gain enough skill to create any disguises necessary (cheap suit level is good enough until later on). At this point, Founder may also engage in some minor site raids to gain juice - genetics plant, cosmetics plant and the factories are ok, but nothing severe should be done - yet. Stick to theft and vandalism. GOAL: Have Founder with good all-around stealth action skills and psychology, and Black Widow with good seduction for date napping.

Once the Founder has a passable level of psychology (8, maybe), the Black Widow should acquire a firearm and start datenapping people. They will be treated nicely by the founder. Start with easy targets like janitors, but try to get sleepers in every tactically significant site - prison, court house, police station, nuclear plant are the topmost important ones. Having club security controlled is good as well - almost every important sleeper can be acquired there. Before doing anything that is guaranteed to anger the police OR doing anything that might tip the scales too much towards liberalism, have at least a couple of judges. Continue expanding sleeper network. If Founder starts accumulating heat, it's good to periodically clean him/her by going to trial voluntarily (this is why you have trained law, persuasion and acquired sleeper judges). GOAL: Have a vast network of sleepers and a Founder that can defend him/herself against any reasonable charge in court.

The third phase should be begun before or when you start making actual changes to the political climate. Datenap an agent or a soldier and indoctrinate him/her. This is the Yoda (once enlightened, before that he's the Scumbag). Fetch five Jedis for Yoda from Juice bar - value agility and health (black belts, athletes, dancers ang yoga instructors are good for this). Because Yoda should already have high weapons skills, (s)he can train the Jedis to be passable fighters without ever seeing action. Equipment for Yoda's Jedis can be acquired from the military base either covertly or violently. With Yoda's Jedis equipped, start making the Liberal agenda known by having the Founder spraypaint sites and sleepers advocating furiously (watch out for the Judges' infiltration!). GOAL: Within a week of CCS's appearance their safehouse is raided by a group of well-trained and well-equipped Liberals.

The rest should be quite obvious.

I'm going to run a check on interrogation.cpp today (you have my permission to beat me with a dildo today if I wind up slacking off). I will add and modify some flavor text (including a what appears to be a bug in one of the switchcases), and I'll replace the dildo with something a bit more political, if it is a placeholder for something like that.

And to the thrilling world of game mechanics, shall we? While I think it's best if the most brutal torture was involuntary, I think that restraints, for example, would have more than two stages. Currently, the hostage is either tied to a chair or kept in the back room cell. There could be an even more liberal option that would basically have the conservative roam the safehouse freely with a bell around their neck, or something similar.

Yeah, I offered the idea but thanks to the aforementioned military service and my lack of experience working with XML, I couldn't actually do a thing.

The fact that I didn't participate in the coding only serves to amplify my gratitude towards Carlos Gustavos for such a tremendous effort!

For any future XML stuff, I'll see what I can do. I'm getting my feet wet fixing bugs and such minor stuff, and working on the car chases and the Epic Conservative film studio.

EDIT: It appears blomkvist has also been active on the XML front, thanks to them as well!

It used to be true not too long ago. I think Jon & the guys started working on the XML system last summer, but because of my military service and various other issues in real life I didn't play much and can't recall when exactly the XML modding was first introduced. It's a really good system though. Maybe at some point the XML will be expanded, with issues, characters etc turned into XML. However, I'm very pleased with the current system.

Intelligence, charisma and agility, is the recipe for a perfect founder. Coincidentally, I happen to be smart, charismatic and (to a smaller extent) nimble. Maybe I should start a crime squad of my own!
