Personally, I would love for guns to work like they do in Holywood. Sure its unrealistic. Sure it wont happen in real life. But it just makes you feel better when seeing your awesome liberal mow down enemies like rambo.

Rule of Cool>Realism

This is what I mean! Sure, we shouldn't get too far-fetched (realism until closer look is fine), but... I like the current ultra-heavy AK47... hehehe.

And there's no gender. I mean, you can change it by a press of a key. Yeah.

Actually, I think the game keeps track of the conservative definition gender of characters. For example, female-born males may be intercepted by the club bouncers for not being male.

Okay, I gues no-tonque-in-cheek realism is also good!

LCS is fun. LCS was fun.

I find the very idea of LCS most entertaining. Few games allow the player to influence the politics with such a broad assortment of tactics. Few games allow the player to create a large secret underground military force that can shut down the city in a single day. Few games pit the player against the very system itself, forcing the player to be most careful when choosing what to do.

However, now it's gone somewhat. I've beaten the game so many times in so many different ways (from a solo martial artist to a liberal newspaper) that I simply don't find it entertaining as a game. But as a concept, an idea, LCS still keeps me very entertained. I still find great pleasure in discussing the game, imagining potential new features, sourcediving... perhaps I'm becoming somewhat developery, enjoying the game's progress rather than game progress. Perhaps I should refamiliarize myself with C++ so I can help more.

In any case, I think if LCS has to choose with the REALism and Hollywood realism, Hollywood is the place to go. I mean, we already have the Matrix (solo martial arts victories against bombers!) and such... maybe other hugely exaggerated tonque-in-cheek stuff (like exploding cars and such) could find their home in LCS.

Actually, I think the colour system is the least important thing in the 2-dimensional political system. Other implementation aspects are more important. There are many ways to visualize the alignment apart from colors, for example simple letter codes in parentheses after the character's name in site mode (although this wouldn't look as nice).

Yeah, I understand. As I said, I find the very same urban legends very ridiculous. Cars very rarely explode after a crash. Bullets don't blow up people or limbs. Et cetera, et cetera. Basically most of them are harmless, but on the other hand, the car explosion legend isn't as people think it's imperative to get out of the car as fast as possible, and that means not using a seatbelt. Not only ridiculous, but dangerous.

No problem. In any case, LCS isn't the most realistic game. Or rather, it is realistic, but that realism becomes more and more distorted and perverted when you look at it. Just think about 6 hippies with relatively little training fighting off the US military and their jet bombers. With swords. What is the Matrix, by the way?  :D

By the way, if we had miniguns, we COULD blow off limbs... and trees. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MythBusters_(2008_season)#Tree_Machine_Gun

"Sure there's are such situations, although I think they're very unlikely."

No, no, no. God damn, you say this then you say how you hate cars exploding in movies. It's just as retarded. Bullets make much smaller wounds than people think. Everytime I hear someone say "THISLL BLOW A HOLE IN YOU THE SIZE O' UR DADDIES FIST" I want to slap them.

You didn't quite get my point. I meant it's possible to amputate a limb with a single bullet. The limb needs to be already beaten severely (as I said, hanging by a strip of flesh) for this to be in any way probable.

But there is never a condition where a single bullet could ever blow off anyones limb. Despite what the internet may tell you, lol.

Sure there's are such situations, although I think they're very unlikely. And if your limb is hanging on by a small scrap of flesh, I think it's smarter to model it as severed (gameplay-wise). On the other hand, AK47, M16 and M4 in LCS can sever limbs, but if I've understood correctly those machine guns are more like portable rapid-fire miniartillery (in LCS).

I also find shotgun's limb severing a tad unrealistic. But it's not the top one Hollywood unrealistic effect I've seen - EXPLODING CARS are. Maybe we should have that in LCS as well?

Agreed, maybe it's best that we have two distinct colors. My scale revolved around (in hex markings) increments of 3F, but it creates a few annoyingly similar pairs and many ugly colours that don't really work well. Perhaps the way to go is to give a color scale to each of the alignments and make sure the result is clear for the player. It's just somewhat problematic, because there are 3 colours to mix against four political extremes.

See, I imagined it as being a far less mixable scale, but I like your idea better.

I'm currently trying to create a colour scale with GIMP (Liberal alternative for Photoshop) but it might need slight tweaking to look nice in any case.

By the way, the idea of extremely authoritan moderates amuses me greatly.

"I don't care what kind of government we have. As long as it bosses me around!"

EDIT: RGB doesn't look very nice, at least the system I'm toying around with. For comparison I'll try also creating one with two colours only.

MOAR EDIT: I tried tweaking it a bit, looks nice but some colours are very similar looking so they'll have to emphasized somehow in case this system is used.

^^

If I understood correctly, we would end up with 5x5 alignment scale (with the LCS representing the Extreme Left Libertarian a.k.a anarchist communism?). We have three colours (red, green and blue). My suggestion is that Arch Conservative Authoritan remains red. Any movement away from that decreases the amount of red, and increases the amount of green when moving towards left-wing economics and the amount of blue when moving towards social liberty. This would make Arch Conservative Authoritan (corporate fascism) red, Arch Conservative Libertarian (anarchocapitalism) blue, Left Wing Authoritan (Authoritan Communism) green and the Elite Liberal (anarchocommunism) cyan. I'm currently trying to make this scale fit with various image editing programs. Suggestions? Welcome.

I don't want to sound overly judgemental, but the cons aren't real. No rifle allows disguises, and if you use one, you don't need a disguise. Money in LCS inflates very quickly as you get cracking with regular raids, so expensive ammo clips won't do any good for the balance. The clip size, however is a real setback (even those 10 bursts provided by AK47 seem to run out fast), but not very dramatic when having a squad of 6 trained liberals.

However, I suggest that you keep working on it, in any case. Creativity is why we have liberalism in the first place! The current LCS weapon system is rather boring and at least I'd like to see more specialized weapons in the future: stealth hits with knifes or SMAPs (Sileced Movie Agent Pistol), covering fire with SMG or assault rifle, kneecap shots (yay) and such... If I have time next summer I'll familiarize myself with C++ and then I can help Jon code all the interesting features instead of just suggesting them ^^.

I'm bored silly with regular LCS. Can someone summarize what this mod is all about?
