Curses / Re: How should we affect the Military Spending Issue?
« on: March 08, 2010, 02:01:52 pm »
Good idea's, but one thing.

Gun laws don't affect the millitary.

Yeah, basically we need a way to combat gun laws as well. The military could be affected by gun laws, as I proposed, so recruits who basically are people who haven't been in the army for long, wouldn't be granted weapons under liberal laws. The more trusted conservatives (soldier, MP, officer) would still be armed.

For gun violence, one thing that would really turn the public opinion around would be an armed mob or militia killing people, looting, burning or pillaging. Which is exactly what the LCS does. But perhaps another way would be nice too - add a weapons locker to the public area of the police station, and make it always guarded by a special NPC like the bouncers (having that guy as a sleeper would make the action not bothersome). Unlocking the weapons locker would of course let anyone passing by grab a rifle and start shootin', and perhaps there could be a RNG roll to determine if some maniac actually does this (a bigger effect) or whether the open locker was noticed and locked again before anything serious happen (a small effect).

Another choice would be adding something like the Hunting Lodge which would feature corporate managers and various other conservative types blasting deer (liberal oppressed, can be released once people too) with AK47 (funny in a sick way). Could also affect animal rights.

I suggest that we add a new location for military barracks, and perhaps tie it to a few other issues as well (homosexuality springs to mind...). This area could feature new types of people...

Recruit - bloody common, most often moderate or conservative but can be liberal too, may have a bit of weapon skills. Armed with pistol, SMG or AR15 if gun control is conservative, and if gun control is liberal, they'll be unarmed as weapons won't be given to just anybody!

Officer - the corporate manager's military equivalent. A somewhat effiecent sleeper, has some weapons skills (pistol + random skills) and persuasion skills. Armed with a pistol. Becomes rarer as military spending lowers, but isn't especially rare even at L+. Always conservative.

MP - Deadly. Very good at spotting disguises and always comes armed. Not uncommon. Always conservative. Has good weapon skills.

General - a rare but powerful conservative speaker. Has a good pistol skill and other weapons as well, has a next-to-divine persuasion skill and high charisma. As a joke, I suggest they're called Warlords in ultra C+ society.

In addition, soldiers may appear in military base. The military base could also feature some sabotage options like the factories (ammo dumps, weapon lockers, fire alarms anyone?) or a secret military document safe.

If you start in Nightmare Mode, hire five child laborers, and have them sell brownies, you can make shittons of money without risking anything but the child laborers. Does selling drugs become less profitable as drugs get more legal?

At least in older versions drugs, while more illegal, gave greater payoffs. One of those things that are actually better for the player in C+ society.

Escape is when you leave through the door instead of the conservatives. But coming to think of it, I usually keep my main squad (the one that attracts raids) very much separate from the less wanted people, so I don't remember a single case where my squads were disbanded after a victory. So I guess you could be right.

I think torture can be affected by attacking the prison and possibly police station and court house. Military spending... err... soldier/veteran sleepers, or generic issue changers. It would be nice if military class raids on LCS would also boost the hatred towards an expensive military that is incapable of taking down a sixpack of sword flailing hippies.

Make it stop disbanding squads after a successful base defence?

It doesn't always do that, only after you espace (although I seldom do that, I find that a pain too) instead of fighting off them conservatives.

Yes, yes, thank you, but I know the system myself already (I've beaten LCS many times over) but I meant that not everyone is so familiar with the system, so it should be summarized in the docs.

Oh, and there's something wrong with the disguise skill. I went to the Gentlemen's Club with a cheap suit and 0.08 disguise skill, was let in, found a radio personality and held down S. And nothing happened. To test the hypothesis, I broke to the Ministry of Love, and none of the agents noticed anything. A guard dog eventually found me out, though, and I died.

The gentleman's club part is not a bug, I suppose, since the interior of the club is a public area, like the latte stand or the park. You're not really trespassing there.

Note that I myself am European, and I'm quite unfamiliar with the workings of the congress and senate, so don't cut everything about it out.

I love the politics and popularity simulation, the feeling of accomplishment as the laws slowly but surely become liberal, and the stealthy aspects (sadly, I find gun running much more powerful but stealthy actions more fun).

No, I think they still leave if they or anyone else doesn't have enough conviction to lead.

But please, while all this new sleeper stuff seems very interesting, avoid at all costs the following situation...

I haz sleepurz
Mah sleepurz R caught because RNG gives me bad numbers
I haz sleepurz in gaol

Perhaps some system that allows multiple sleepers to work together to avoid being caught (Hey, he couln't have done it, he was with me the whole time). Or at least make captured sleepers leave the organization right away, as sleepers are useful only until their cover is blown. I hate having those "good as sleepers, not useful otherwise"-characters.

CEOs are the only type at the CEO house that uses persuasion attacks, but they're pretty rare. The reason is just because there's only one CEO and it's a big house; if the encounter rate was higher, it would look like a CEO clubhouse instead of a mansion.

I have been stumbling upon several CEOs there, it's not uncommon to meet several. I also wonder what makes those CEOs leak out crap... about themselves.

Does defending self in court provide juice? It could be also partially responsible.
