PS: If Toady has been kidnapped who is joining the rescue party? I have some guns but we will need more. And alcohol.

I could only join if he has been abducted to Europe. Alcohol would be no problem though, we have lots of Legendary Brewers here.

Excellent, we should meet halfway.

6:27am April 24 2010 forum time is my guess.  I say we go from the first announcement Toady makes on the forum.

Speaking seriously - I for one really don't know. There hasn't been an update in the dev log for almost a week. I hope all's well in Toadyville...
Possibly the government abducted him to turn DF into a weapon. Who knows. He's probably just busy squashing swarms of inane bugs one by one while trying to learn the best way to utilize a new bug tracker and also he mentioned some stuff about working on the forums. Toady, if you read this, see how much we love you! We even worry about your personal safety after not hearing from you for a few days!

Another thing may be that you need to assign a quartermaster dwarf in the nobles screen.

If you play the EQ2 trial, just remember that it would be better to start a new Sony account after the trial. There is a box I bought for 20$ that includes 60 days of time included, but it's only for BRAND NEW ACCOUNTS. I had a trial account after my buddy introduced me to the game and it was on my old, old, old Everquest 1 sony account that I miraculously remembered after 12+ years. However, since I tried the trial of EQ2 it won't add the two free months that came in the box. That means I'll have to spend another 15$ due to misleading advertising. They did do the standard [*Does not apply to existing accounts] in tiny writing, but that's after they said in two other places in large print "Includes 60 days of playing time!*" I suppose it is my fault for not noticing the asterisk but I'm still not buying another card on principle.

That would work, but it would rely on most people in Paraguay knowing that A: Someone is fixing prices and B: That they can get it cheaper if they wait and C: The price fixers being unable log on more often than Ched to respond by buying him out.

However, this would be a decent option until we either come to an agreement or screw them over.

At the same time though, we'd still be getting our product bought out. It's basically the same as new car dealerships or drug dealers. They control or buy up the whole supply and fix prices. The only person really hurt by it is the consumer. If our goal is to lower the price of weapons for the good of humanity, and make a buttload of cash as our secondary goal, then we should squeal on them. If we just want to be get rich and say screw the consumer like nearly every company in existence then we should go along with it as we would have a guaranteed consumer. I would say the best path would be to ignore it at first until you make some capitol and then turn around and raise prices on them, and if they don't agree we "figure out their scheme" and we sing like canary boids because we are an respectable and honest forum community.

Bay twelve is a hive of scum and villany.
I approve.

Oh yes, and don't negotiate over the e-republic website. Paper trail bad.

EDIT: Then we can take credit for having "discovered" their scheme and for "taking the high road" ;) to lower prices. Also as a co-incidence ;) if everyone knows it's due to our actions that this group of speculators was put out of business we score some votes for our eventual take-over...

By the way, we should really try hard to recruit someone who speaks Spanish as a first language and English as a second. Or at least is fluent enough in Espaniol to pass for a native speaker in type. They would be a good choice to run a political newspaper... if we can trust them.

Also, E-Paraguay must never learn the existence of these forums. We'll need to look like it was just coincidence that a bunch of English speaking people chose Paraguay, fixed the economy, formed a political party and took over the government. Definitely not an internet conspiracy.

I've noticed after a year or two of dodging demonstrations that all the squad dwarfs had various levels of dodging which usually related to how high their observation skill was. Basically the dwarves who learned higher levels of observation skill learned dodging faster.

Also, all I could ever get my dwarves to do was teach dodging.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Seeds in my barrels
« on: April 21, 2010, 06:20:51 pm »
The downside is your dwarves will have to spend a few years gathering the items that belonged to the previous fort's inhabitants.

You have to have a dwarf with Plant Gathering labor turned on. It helps if he is expendable since he will often be far from the fort in the wilderness gathering plants. Then hit d, then p, then draw a box around any surface area with plant life. It will feed a small fort with one or two dwarves doing it, and you also get seeds after the dwarves eat, mill, or process what is gathered. Above ground farms work fine as long as your seeds are in a food stockpile that will accept them. Underground farms, like plump helmets, require you to somehow get water on the floors to make mud. Underground caverns start muddy, however you will likely be invaded by a variety of unfriendly monsters with a taste for dwarf flesh so you'll need to plan defenses. Keep in mind some of these creatures can fly and are trap immune...

Also, if your dwarves are starving, butcher all your male animals except one of each type to use as a stud to repopulate.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Can I get shell from cooked turtle?
« on: April 21, 2010, 06:10:38 pm »
I think it's mostly related to Biomes. Turtles are available in every biome and temperature if I remember correctly so you should be able to catch some as long as you have water. Just remember that fishing is a very high priority job compared with fish cleaning which is extremely low priority (I can't blame the dwarves) so you have to have a second dwarf with fish cleaning because your fisherdwarf will spend all his time fishing. I usually give fish cleaning to someone that has another job he only does part time, such as a dyer, miller, brewer, or plant processor. That way next time he idles he goes to clean fish instead.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: [.03] Quick way to kill cats?
« on: April 21, 2010, 06:06:00 pm »
This method will only work until Toady fixes the melting bug, but it sounds like a feasible idea with the right implementation.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=55001.0

Also, in your next fort, only start with a male cat. If the merchants trade you a female feline, then make sure it is never allowed out of it's cage before it is butchered. The one exception would be if you want to transfer it to a cage next to the butcher's to free up the cage it came in. This however runs the risk of having the cat adopt a dwarf. The best way would be to build the female cat's cage next to the butcher's and remove it when finished.

Odin traded his eye in exchange for a drink from a pool containing all knowledge called the Pool of Mimir. Bricks may have been mentioning on of his other crazy shemes. It certainly sounds like something Odin would do.

Giant Tick made of vomit with poisonous vapors. It killed a whole fortress of 40+ dwarves despite having all red wounds. Also, he left a big pile of vomit as his corpse when I reclaimed with seven axedwarf/fighters. I'm currently trying to figure out how to make my dwarves eat it.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Liaison Ruining My Game
« on: April 16, 2010, 05:10:09 pm »
It sounds like she may have been a hunter in her former profession before becoming your liason. That's my guess anyways.

The only thing I can say is to make sure you have a broker/expedition leader for him to meet with. Other then that I think you've found a new bug.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The Little Questions Thread
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:57:03 pm »
I have the same problem with my monster pit. I go to throw a monster into the pit the dwarf freaks out about the goblin 5 z levels down even though there is no way it can do anything.

I'm planning on making a bridge between the bottom of the pit and the top of the pit. I'm Hoping the bridge will block the line of sight to the monster below. Then I'll throw monsters on to the bridge and release it with a lever. Once the monsters falls down I'll active the bridge again hoping it will block line of sight so I can drop another monster.

you could try buildign a retractable bridge on a z level above the pit and below the ledge the monsters get tossed from. That way the monster sits on the bridge until it is retracted then fall in the pit without the dwarves being scared by the monsters in the pit because they can't see them.
