DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Completly Surprising Deaths?
« on: July 22, 2008, 08:16:06 pm »
into what was basically a pile of children.

From what I've heard in one thread, I'm surprised the children didn't break every bone in your body before they gouged out your eyes and strangled you to death. There are some nasty stories of legendary adventurers being mauled by children. Beginner's luck I guess. The random number generator must like them.

After my sarcastic comment about falling to my death off a cliff, and the subsequent stories of such deaths, I decided to go with "stand ground" in every possible spot in the combat prefs.

I really must know what your stats were like. Strength, agility, toughness, armor user, shield user, and wrestling specifically.

I have a character now going at:

Ultra-Mighty, Perfectly agile, superhumanly tough, 26 armor, 30 shield, and 38 wrestling. I'm sure I'll be posting in this thread once he accidentally dodges an attack and falls off a cliff or something gay like that.

You're right, Davion.

But it is also our duty as quasibeta-testers to let Toady know when something isn't quite as fun as it used to be. Don't you think he'd rather know now, when the game is still fun, or a year later when all the fun has been sucked out of adventure mode.

Granted, I still have hope that with the completion of the army arc, things will get interesting again.

Wow.

What was your wrestling, armor and shield skills at?

Maybe the child was a wrestling prodigy?

Another thing I remember about the old DF adventurer is being attacked by 5 or 6 GIANT lions in a single ambush. My comrades and I would valiantly fight them off, losing perhaps 4 men in the process. One of my meatshields actually killed one of the lions that killed a bunch of the other meatshields; one time -- and so he got a title. Later on, I found a leather bracer or something that had an image of [insert henchman name and title] "striking down" [insert lion's name]

Now that was epic.

The world was not seamless before, but it used to not seem so empty.

Yeah, they come like sheep to the slaughter. It'd be very impressive if they actually had some worthwhile strategy other than suicide.

Imagine the goblins forming a platoon with archers in the back and melee in front, led by a demon or weapon master. Or archers taking up sniping positions. That'd be challenging.

Yeah, the old dark fortresses were havens of destruction. Now they are a little less than intimidating.

Ruins used to be sites with gigantic pyramids and temples to dead gods,(imagination) swarming with hordes of undead; now they are just broken down ghost towns.

Yeah, being a goblin adventurer and having a chat with the leader of human civs is quite disappointing.

Is it possible to import an adventurer from a world made in version 27 to a world made in version 28?

I've already simply put the region in the new version, but its just like the old 27 version. Is it possible to switch out characters between worlds?

Oh yeah, and is it possible to join wars now? Are there actual large-scale battles? Thanks!

Heh, well,

Your fortress collapses.

I can never find chasms either. I always get spammed about various monsters falling into them, but never have I had the fortune to watch the monsters tumble in like lemmings.

I just recently fought a battle at a goblin city where there were hordes of goblins. I killed maybe 30 - 40, but the most attacking me at any given time was maybe 4. It was pretty darn easy.

Then I ran into a demon, and thought I was dead meat. Threw a pike and killed it instantly.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Invisible titans? Strange red carots?
« on: July 12, 2008, 05:56:58 pm »
Hello again. The help in the previous thread was much appreciated by my companion. Lol.

So a king of a civilization gave me a quest to kill a titan. Oh joy!

Upon reaching the cave, I receive some combat messages about a titan and mountain goat fighting. My money was on the titan. From those messages, I deduced that the titan must be on the surface somewhere, so I check the immediate area around the cave. Nothing.

I enter the cave, and explore it thoroughly for about half an hour. No titan. I leave the area.

I do some other little quests then come back, hoping to finally slay the elusive titan. I enter directly in the cave, and am assaulted by many large groups of naked mole rats, antmen, rat men, etc. The cave is about 4x more populated than before. I don't find the titan in the cave, but at least I could decorate many of the walls with the blood of his minions. Then I get combat messages about a giant eagle and titan fighting. My money is on the titan again, but even more, I am excited to know that the titan must be on the surface.

I explore all the area marked by the quest log, (hitting z when you are in the quest area) and still find no titan.

I have sworn to destroy that king's civilization if I don't find that titan in a year. Has anyone else been deceived by conniving kings in this manner?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Best way to ditch companions?

Lol. The point was so that she would still alive. I decided to ditch her by leaving the town as soon as she blacked out. So she's still alive . . . somewhere.
