Your miners die? I tap into the volcanoes all the time without incident, it is rather slow moving. Is this what your talking about?

M=Wall designated for mining
!= magma

Are you trying to mine out that entire wall that is next to the magma? I usually mine out one. It is slower to flow, but it is safer too.

I voted carving out a life of his own. Vengeance would be too easy. How many times have people created a skilled adventurer and slaughtered entire civilizations? Beaten down lords and masters? Too easy, in my opinion.

The two adventurers you guys created are interesting. I read through the parts of this to see how you deal with adventurers in the new versions. In 40d, I had a starting marksdwarf, and immediately lost my crossbow while defending a mountain home to golems (Civilization Forge). I became a Legendary Lasher after I picked up a dead dwarf's whip.

I downloaded this save to see if it would work. In 31.10, I keep receiving runtime errors at some point early in the game. It is a nice adventurer with a starting task. Would exactly did you guys do at the designated dark fortress? Every dwarf started attacking me on sight, and there were parts revealed in the towers indicating the adventurer was once there. I slaughtered everyone, including Datan. Would did you do to Datan, if anything? I found Datan crawling with severe injuries. One blow to the head with a scimitar finished it.

Sorry for being random, the adventures in this thread are interesting and I might join in at some point when a spot is available.

I hope you don't mind me stealing your save. If you do, I will delete it.

The only time I let my dwarves in the caverns is when I walled off the caverns entirely, since it allows you to place walls at the very edge of the map. It was a pain on the last wall though, at the very top of the wall creatures spawned in the masses.

If you do upload the save, that would be awesome. A large and nice fortress that has good FPS? Who can turn that down? I don't want to start a new fortress if my designs lead to me abandoning because of FPS. I can fight off all else with ease, except the Lagmonster..... :'(

This fortress is awesome. It competes with Duke's castle (can't recall the name, I believe it was something-abbey).

This fortress is awesome, and FPS friendly too! If only I were that lucky/good at designing. Just today I had to abandon a fort because the Lagmonster ate my FPS.

I like the front-on as well. The top-down looks like a square, like Cheddarius said, or an incredibly deformed mug.

If you don't mind, I'll take the next available male jade dwarf and assign him the five metal professions. If you find yourself low on mechanics, you can make him one as well. Daywalkah will do for a name.

I've been thinking of starting something similar to this project. My approach would have been to find a large pit and channel a river into it when I was done building. It wouldn't have been a true ocean city though.

That is not possible with a syndrome. You could use
[SELECT_TISSUE_LAYER:ALL]
[TL_HEALING_RATE:1]
at the bottom of the creature file to heal tissue much faster. You could also use [PHYS_ATT_RANGE:RECUPERATION:5000:5000:5000:5000:5000:5000:5000] to assist.

No. It should work if you edited an existing custom workshop though.
