Nope, just been killing the demons in the towers.

Can any other civs breach while you play in fort mode or adventurer?

Second age of MYTH? What was your last age? I really hope it wasn't Legends or Heroes. :\

Also: Towers without tunnels are easier to destroy, because you just have to dig the ground underneath their bottom level out.

Put supports under all 3, link to lever, pull lever.

The results are very, very entertaining. If you're hoping the goblins that survive will be trapped, you're usually out of luck. The towers like splitting in half.

Also note that even after towers are blown up, they remain as though they were still standing in the LEgends and Adventure mode.

It was easy enough to destroy the ones with tunnels, i dug under and removed the stairs then did supports. I did notice the splitting in half and wondered about it, but then thought it'd look awesome to someone walking past.

Also it was in Heroes mode before this one. What's the problem with it being either legends or heroes?

Edit: The new towers im working on breaking are half dug into a mountain side so i'm having to dig them out first before undermining.

So after killing the demon in my last Fortress I went there as an adventurer and failed.

In my stupidity I accidentally drained the river into the deep roads so have resolved to go back and block it up.

Upon arrival I get this message.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Let's see how it changes as I move on through the world and eliminate the demons.
Shall report in with blocking attempts and demon killings.

EDIT: The new place has three towers and a temple. The temple has a giant hole down the center and is full of water at the bottom, the floor being engraved. They have a swimming pool how awesome! The demon i on top of the temple, so i've cut off the ramps to give me time.

EDIT2: Collapsing the tower beneath the demon didnt work. HE CAN FLY.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I imagine him there going hey look dwarves. What the...the floor has disappeared. Ah well I'm here flying.

EDIT 3: Built a floor above him and dropped it on his scaly head. That finished him off.

After eventually collapsing the towers and the roof above the deep road (the demon was hiding there) it took about 2 months to slowly lose my 7 miners to individual accidents.

Cave ins, trees falling, channeling out the floor below you and dropping the entirety of 16z levels of rock on one's own head.

As I saw the words "Your settlement has come to an end, after watching the last dwarf mine out the floor under his feet and plummet 10z levels I burst out laughing. First time I've lost a fortress like this. I usually give up after X-years but this. This was Fun.

And now...
TO ADVENTURE MODE!

Checking legends, The Hot Fellowship collapsed the same time as my civ. There were many of them left. They had lost their DEMONLORD THOUGH!

EDIT:
1 - During travel was ambushed by wolves. I started off in a dried up murky pool. No way out. Died.
2 - Made it there. Upon Arrival: Nemesis Unit Overload.
3 - Went again. Visited the mountainhome this time. No message. Alls well and good. Hard to get about though.

Do you want the version with just seven or is the reclaim fine?

Scratch that you don't want the one with seven, they turned up with nothing. But now I can't get the damn NOEAT NODRINK NOSLEEP etc. etc. tags to work.

I'll post world gen and location for you guys.

Location

EDIT: I actually Went ahead and re-genned and the towers were in a different configuration. There's still 4 and one is still a microcline temple. But it's arranged differently.

...Must've gave out the wrong save. I copied it to see the legends but i've got another with just seven dwarves on.

Also I mentioned the demon somewhere. But he's under one of the towers so I'll evacuate all levels under the tower, then collapse it to make sure it all lands on his head.

New Personal Goal: Rid the world of the four surface demons.

I'm not sure now if I want to kill them. They seem so awesome. I think I'll just make a tower in the center of the map and if they go hostile then I'll wipe em out.

Expect news soon.

Also the save is HERE.

EDIT: Changed mind. Am going to kill. Hard.
The only problem is there's a lot of them outside and some in the tunnels. I'm going to have to get a military going soon to remove the last of the civ.

Checking the histories I've found the towers are The Ignoble Fortress, The Ungodly Castle and The Cruel Palace. The temple (it is a temple :P) is The Shrine of Seducing of The Hot Fellowship. They worship the demon. Kill or no.

Here is some info...

Uslot Witchhells the Swltering Bone of Phantoms. He was associated with Torture, death and fire.

Uslot is one of only four demons in the world. He is one of the two males.

He's been involved in elf wars and half his kills are elves. He's killed more elves than the other three have kills put together. He also seems to be worshipped by the Humans as he has loads of "Human X has Worshipped Uslot"

He's razed an elven forest retreat. Twice. It was made, unmade, retaken the destroyed agai/ by him and the goblin/human army.

EDIT: The elven wars were called Unamuzo, "The Gory Conflict". The most significant cause of the conflict was Uslot's natural aversion to the adversary's worship of rivers. There were 4 main battles and twice Leafycharm was destroyed (the one mentioned earlier).

In all there were 54 Elven Deaths and 21 goblin/human/elf deaths on the side of Uslot.

The final act of the final battle before Leafycharm was finally destroyed was thus.

"In 23, the goblin usbu Malicecity devourde the elf Talu Boltivy in Leafycharm." The goblin had killed the elf moments before.

EDIT2:

Just found my favourite goblin. Bax Shakendooms the Gloved Palace of Webs. Moved into the cruel Palace and became a farmer. Then a guard. A bronze colossus attacked the towers and killed two goblins before Bax brought him down. the then became a member of the Hot Fellowship and left guardhood a few years later to become a priest. After that he killed 5 humans over the next 87 years. I'm assuming ritual sacrifice as all the human kills were guys who lived there.

Well I embarked next to a goblin obsidian tower (although it's mostly Humans). There's 3 of them.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And one of microcline.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And underground roads off the map which are connected to all the towers...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Except the microcline one. Which is built in a dug out pit.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Suggestions of what do.

BACKGROUND:
I modded my dwarves to be awesome as I was going to destroy the tower that I found there (I only expected one) and raise a giant mausoleum for the dwarves and surround it with walls. Then play as many forts as I could after abandoning to move time on so much then go visit as an adventurer and imagine all the dwarves I meet along the way saying " Mondulurdim? That's a myth, doesn't exist." Then eventually finding it and seeing all the dead goblins lying about and the demon corpse in the hole beside the giant block tower housing the supposed dead.

Now though I think I'll incorporate the deep roads. Maybe I could build a jail or high security fort above the end of the deep roads and block up all routes along the way except those leading to the gravetower.

Burn in magma.

Alternatively...

Construct elaborate rube goldberg device of immense doom spanning the entire fortress to release a drop of magma precisely on his pointed ears; then release the reservoir of water you've got stored up behind his throne room in one go to encase him in obsidian and flood the room making it impassable to anyone. Leave the upper levels open so people can look upon the clear waters and see Nithe, in carbonite looking up in horror to the water surface where the magma fell from, as a warning to all elves.

Bonus points: Put the trade depot on a glass floor above that scene.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / ANTS!
« on: January 05, 2010, 05:29:05 am »
THEM! ANTS! That's all the dwarves really are, and I mean it in a good way.
I'd call that a successful Fortress
What's the FPS here?

In the first video it shows the expanse of the ant chambers and I must say it reminded me of a fortress. Underground. Tunnels and ramps connecting everything. Once complete can only be totally overcome by filling with a liquid (Concrete Magma BOTH) that turns to stone (ish) when it hardens. Annoying Nobles. Access shafts to the surface. Wouldn't you agree?

Also in the second video that's 3 days worth of ants in almost 5 minutes. What's a rough FPS of that?

In the future of the fortress could there emerge an ant mode where you gen the world, choose a site and leave the dwarves to it, they dig out all the structures, plan the roads, defences etc. What are your view on the anty-dwarfs.

Some updates, Danarca has been struck down. Apparently some idiot previous rulers thought it was a good idea to let him engrave the hillside.

Oddly that's how he died repeatedly in my playthrough. He has a thing for them thar hills.

1)Set up new bedroomcomplex...

Theres space for 34 more in the quarters I dug out. Just get some beds in and that'll work. Or if it isn't close enough just dig a staircase.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Engineering a trap for nobles
« on: December 17, 2009, 05:40:43 am »
The dwarf will move on top of the lever, pull it, and then start getting pathing errors because the bridge will retract before they get onto it.

Well when the dwarf steps on the plate it locks the doors before he reaches the lever, or you could manually lock them, then the plate triggers, bridge drops.

EDIT: Sorry I hit post rather than preview >.<

Explanation:
Put this set up right above the shaft.
Set lever to Noble only.
Pull the lever.

Key:
.=space
X  wall
=  retracting bridge
l  lever
d  door
^  pressure plate (connected to doors and bridge)

That'll work yeah?

Yeah if you read my story I'm sure you coulda guessed what was coming.
Seriously over 30 Orcs vs our dwarfs numbering about that as well; Turtling seems like the only way to keep the fort going. Once a defense is set up we could re-instate a no turtling rule, at least to give the fort a chance to last another year or two.
