What! do you not know about the leathers? Craftsdwarves on a fey mood can and will demand  specific type of leather (usually it's a cost of leather rather than an animal).

Maybe doing them by price would be better. Although that would stop you from being able to give dwarves the stuff you want, say kitten leather boots, which would be irritating for those times that you want things specifically. keep it how it is and stop whining, because your desire for less choice would rob others of the opportunity.

Iapatus. I did the same thing but my elite wrestlers refused to use crossbows, so their wrestling skills were basically pointless.

Everyone else does so much planning than me...

I build a wall to encompass everything. Then I build another wall. then I build a bridge so that people can get to my new walled area. Rinse, repeat. Eventually I end up expanding into every possible area, with only one opening to the outside, safe from sieges and everything except flyers.

Well, just add it into the raws that they deal extra damage to iron/stone/wood etc. This building destroyer tag is hopefully just a placeholder anyway, because it definitely isn't the way things should be done. Toady (armok be with him) will get round to it.

Now really, how are you gonna get rid of the SoFs after they kill the gobbos? Harsh language?

This is why you fail. I use harsh language every time. Those SoFs have a really low self esteem, and you try axes and bolts. That only makes them angry. Build some wooden couches and set dwarves to psychotherapy labour, or else assign a military dwarf to use bad words (equip two, they have a high chance to stick). Works a charm.

He's ultramighty from all the extra oxygen trapped in the layer of blood. He's superdwarvenly tough from the hard coating of vomit, and he's super agile because the water helps him slip and slide from place to place. All hail the fluids!

hell yes. Unassign your miners from everything else, and then build a tunnel from one to the other. Wait until two miners breach both walls at the same time, and have the entrance to your complex sealed off. One miner is definitely dead, another will be on the siege side and may survive, and your fortress will need only mop up the survivors.

Building a fortress high up on a cliff and then destroying all the paths up to it. caravans will come to your fortress by the only means possible, while goblin sieges havea 3 in 4 chance of coming in on another edge and wandering about pointlessly.

Yes it should, for gameplay reasons. Where realism and gameplay collide, gameplay wins. Toady (armok be with him) does a fantastic job of combining the two, but sometimes there's just no way to make it work. Strange that talking gives stat ups, while hauling heavy platinum everywhere does nothing for you. I think the convo skills should be reduced to half their current number, and a hauling skill added, so those poor haulers will get something for their trouble. As it is, my children are uber because they sit around doing sod all, while my haulers are weak and pathetic.
