The bugs right now bug the hell out of me and I am less then content with way combat has gotten silly but overlooking that I am looking forward to a balanced version of material properties I also like healthcare because it gives me more things to put into my fortress and I like the feeling of having a massive sprawling complex

Which begs the question: where do the goblins get their iron?

I'd prefer longer, larger, broader veins. That way you would have an absolute abundance of on or several metals, and you could trade for the rest. And indeed, coal ought to be almost a layer rock.

Not sure if this is a realistic goal but civilizations should deplete the surrounding areas of resources,
this might actually be a goal, Toady has many

So if I was to build a fort, how would I prepare for something unstoppable like this? a large pit trap? Crushing it? trapping it in a room with firemen?

Like capntastic said, you won't be playing just dwarves in the future. Controlling humans, elves, gobbos and even kobolds, a wizard and even certain megabeasts (the dev list mentions possibly controlling a dragon) are future features planned for post DF 1.0 . So yea, DF is just how the community and the public at large call it, but in the future the game won't be revolve so much around dwarves.

In 20 years when we reach that issue, we can deal with it then  :P

You can play other races now ya just need to mess with the raws and I don't think the game in its current state allows this to be a different experience.

Dwarfs dig, Im not sure what humans would do, maybe regulate trade, IDK its up to toady to make this stuff up

I don't like the concept of biological waste but I love the concept of a sewer system just because my fortress can have an unnecessarily large one like in every fantasy game ever, what if something associated with production created some sort of industrial waste, or giblets could be dumped to cut down on the miasma

Pretty much every Dwarf, Human and Elf I've met so far sound absolutely revolting. I think it's because the descriptions are too thorough and clinical.

'Concave and narrow nose bridge' sounds like the tagline for some kind of nasal-based circus-freak, despite that being a normal nose bridge.

Alot of people appear ugly if you describe them like that but in reality they look okayish, its all in your imagination.

I agree - an effort vs. reward system would be nicest.  Maybe some more exotic/valuable/bigger crops that won't grow if you don't use irrigation, and other crops grow faster, but you can get some basic sustenance if you just use cave dirt.

Rewards for letting fields lie fallow could be nice too its done in real agriculture/horticulture
