Mafia / Re: Paranormal Round 11 - Day 2 dawns red
« on: November 08, 2009, 02:21:23 pm »
Kashyyk is scum. He jumped onto the Webadict train in the scum area (3rd to 5th, usually, but 6th and 7th have scum often, too), said that me and Jim were likely scum, but he never bothered to explain why, even when asked, and lurked to hell and back, he responded to neither Webadict's nor Forsaken's late game actions.
Wait... Kashyyk is playing?  I don't any posts... *checks*  Ok, so there were posts, just not really.  Also, NUKE9.13 is being a little lurky on that front.

This is quite odd, since we were getting a lot of info out of Forsaken when Pand was Toony Tunneling him. Frelock, do you consider Toony Tunneling to be ineffective?
I know this wasn't directed at me, but I'm going to answer it anyways.  The 'Toony Tunnel' as it were can be good against certain playstyles (chaoticjosh a game or three ago comes to mind), but it can also blow up horribly.  In other circles, it's known as Tunnel Vision and is generally frowned upon.  It's the same sort of thing that has everyone focused on Forsaken and/or webadict for the past couple RL days.  It can help sometimes, but there has to be a point when you just back off and look at the bigger picture.

I don't know if lurking is Org's normal behavior ...
It is.  It really is.

I haven't voted him this day, I am only pointing out that it is not good to not even do anything.
Coming from you this is rather amusing...

Anything more to add?

Wait, why are we voting forsaken again?  I actually went back and read yesterday (something I suggest we all do) and came up with this:

- OMGUS here but I really don't blame him at this point.  webadict has caused us all rather much a headache this round.
- And that's about it...
- Before here he had a couple of decent responses to random vote questions.
- And then a bunch of stuff about not defending himself, but against what?

So, I'm going to unvote.  I realize that if forsaken turns scum, I just made myself look scummy as hell, but we're being entirely too focused on forsaken.

Suspicious against other people:
Mr.Person: For pushing forsaken so hard, why?
Org: Joining the anti-forsaken bandwaggon on more than one occasion and posting little else of use.

So to both of you...  Ignore for the time being forsaken's refusal to defend himself and the single OMGUS against web.  What *else* has he done?

Also, forsaken, I really hope you are town after this.  Please be more helpful than this though:

Org is scum.
Why?  It doesn't take that long to type a whole paragraph, so why do you really think that Org is scum?

Just for the record, this isn't exactly going well for the town...  We're down to 8 already with no dead dopps to show for it?  Would there be 3 or 4 dopps for a 12 player start?

Also, it looks like there is a killing role about (that killed Leafsnail).  With the bullets (and because Mediums don't wonder about), I'd say we have a Vig?  This, at least, is sort of good news.  We can come back and kill off two dopps at once if we can identify them.

Unless of course the Vig happens to be a dopp.  Then we're pretty much screwed.

To start the day: forsaken, you were the scummiest looking person yesterday to have survived to today (IIRC).  What do you have to say about the situation?

I appear to have been left out of Pandarsenic's (for not sending a role?)
Sending a role in is a pretty big part of any Pick Your Role Mafia.  :P
I was hoping that he would prod me when the game was closer to actually starting so I could actually think of something interesting.  I had an idea right away this time, so that's less of a problem.  Oh well, live and learn, yes?

Yes. I think I'm fixed on nightstart w/ nightkill, however.
I'm not against nightkill, I was just trying to mitigate the people that will complain about being killed right away.  This seems plenty shiny to me.  (Just hope I'm not the one to be night killed.)

Also, inquiry:
Will this be day-start or night-start (with no mafia kill probably)?

I know that night start can end up with people dead without actually getting to play, but I really think that that's actually better than getting killed after a single day phrase (or sooner).  You don't have as much invested in the game yet.  And there's always the (hopefully good) chance people will not use their deadly abilities right away.

And then people with active ability that aren't deadly get a chance to use them giving us potentially more than just random votes to go with.

(which I personally find unconscionable, either provide a real UI or an API, refusing to do either is simply an insult)
I'm of two minds about this.  On one hand, the DF community is one of the best modding communities I've seen in a long time and for programs based on DFHack, they've done everything just by attaching to the process and reading the memory.  So of course, I'd be interested if Toady were to open up and allow an API.

On the other hand, I know what it's like to have a project of this magnitude, it's an extreme investment of his time and becomes extremely personal to the person writing it.  If he opens up the project who knows what might happen.  Worst case scenario, he might lose control of the project.  So I'm not so sure if Toady's refusal to add an API is really that insulting.

He mentioned "send" and "get" - that implies that both programs would be actively involved in the process.
That's not strictly true.  With memory reading / injection it's possible to do all of the reading and writing from Stonesense's side; however it's really not a good idea for the long run.  At this point, we're really just arguing about semantics, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

so many comments on all the sites about not getting into the game cuz of the UI, i really hope he starts to think about at least improving it in some way before he starts his next yearly arc project, i think he'd gain *alot* of players by doing so.

There's a good chance you'll get your wish.  Toady is going to be working through the top 10 Eternal Suggestions items soon after the upcoming release, on which "Full graphics support" stands at #7.

Although he's also said that he may jump around or ignore items in this list as he sees fit (as it should be).  Still, fingers crossed for options in the future.

I am, unfortunately, without means of communication. I have lost my computer and am not able to post regularly. But, I do appreciate the notice. So, please wait on the line as the calls are answered in the order that they are received.

You are posting more in Paranormal though... Care to comment?

A prod to Twiggie will be sent.

Whoops, I forgot he needs a replacement.  SOMEONE REPLACE HIM.
So he added late and now needs replaced?  Can we just pretend he never existed?  (/sarcasm)

I'm the Communist Worker. I can either wait until Day 6 for the revolution to start, as the workers are tired of the stressful conditions with mafia running around, or I can kill the Capitalist Banker and kickstart the revolution. See? I'm harmless. Now I just have to hope that the Capitalist Banker can't nightkill me now that I've publicly roleclaimed.
You have to kill the Capitalist Banker?  This implies that you have a killing role which makes you rather dangerous.  I'm starting to agree with dakarian on this part.

That set-up may include a random Cop or they might all be random cops. You could test it by re-investigating, but that's a big waste.

Instead, Dephy logic can't really apply here. Why do you think it can?
Agreed.  I'm not sure why we're putting so much emphasis on the cops now that there are so many of them (with conflicting results).  I'm not saying don't try to figure out what you actually are, I just think that's your job to deal with.

Meph, the votecount needs to be corrected. I unvoted JanusTwoFace and voted webadict.
NUKE9.13 & JanusTwoFace: You two have been relatively inactive. Care to comment about... something? Anything?
Busy in real life, quarter's ending, so I'm cutting back on the number of mafias I'm in.  I'm working on it though.

Wow, Web called me dumb even though I haven't voted him. Why? Because I've answered questions and tried to be helpful? Because I haven't been firing off inane questions at other people? Sorry, maybe I should just unvote and vote you Web. Personal attacks and namecalling aren't the best way to defend yourself.
Granted, I'm not thrilled with webadict's behavior this game, but this really doesn't help. Webadict is often annoyingly agressive (please no more discussions about agression being a towntell) and you are basically playing right into his hands.

If he's scum and you're town, he's probably laughing right now because you'll probably get lynched tomorrow at the rate you're going.  On the other hand, if he's town and you're scum, you're still going to get lynched tomorrow and it's even more likely because dying as town will lend weight to his words.

It's certainly easy to convince yourself that you're correct, it seems. I still have nothing to say on the matter, web will die today and we'll deal with tomorrow. I'm not defending myself because I haven't done anything scummy, if you all wish to let yourselves be taken in by this nonsense feel free.
There's a difference between defending yourself and trying to hard to defend yourself.  Not defending yourself and trying to hard are likely to be scumtells.  Defending yourself the right amount is much less so.

HI I'M SCUM
HI IM TOONYMAN
NO YOURE PANDAR.
Amusing, but really not helpful.

I'm being Toony because Webadict didn't let him. :I
Which still bugs the heck out of me... I keep going back and forth between being sure that webadict is scum and thinking he's town with a strategy that seems rather strange at best.

Both running at the same time.

Perhaps Stonesense hasn't realized that Dwarf Fortress has started?  Try pressing 'R' to ask Stonesense to refresh.  (Alternatively, press '+' on the numpad to set Stonesense to auto refresh)

Yes, I am playing the game when I load up stonesense.
That's strange then...

Call me dumb, but how exactly do I get this thing to load a map? I've downloaded it into the DF folder, but it opens to say 'no map loaded' and I don't know how to get it to display my fortress.
I too get the no map loaded problem. I've copied the stonesense folder into my dwarf fort folder and I'm running d13.

Just checking... You are running Dwarf Fortress too, yes?  Stonesense reads the Dwarf Fortress memory to get the maps, not the saved files.  If you aren't running Dwarf Fortress or haven't loaded a game, it will display 'No map loaded'

If you are already running Dwarf Fortress, than I'm not sure what's up.
