But conversely, they don't spawn on the screen. So as long as you don't stand around for a while just outside of your house you'll be fine? That's amusing.

Has anyone actually seen critters spawn in a dirt walled house? Because I kind of like the look of Pbat's original hobbit hole and was looking forward to making one of my own some day. Sure I could just knock out the back walls, but that sounds like a lot of extra work. :)

Even if you don't like Pbat's style, I'd suggest watching Part 23 of his Let's Play.

He's got Blue on as a special guest doing a good bit of Q&A.

Oh man, the waterfalls in Part 19 were pretty cool.

Memories of fun in Dwarf Fortress.

And the explosives.

:D

It's not good at doing things that it doesn't do?  Who'd thunk? :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the vision statement as it stands was written by chmod (the originally author of Dwarf Therapist) and hasn't been updated for over a year. While the current vision statment is surely up to the new maintainer (Dwarf Engineer), it isn't impossible that he might change it.

For that matter, it's an open source project. Seems like it wouldn't be that terribly hard to fork the project, add more features, and possibly submit a patch to the main version.

Ah sorry. it seemed like some of you guys had some inside information.

Nothing more than the Let's Play videos they've been posting on YouTube.

It's actually interesting. Seems like most of the time when an Indie game gets mentioned around here one of the devs usually shows up before long. Not so much this time though. So it goes.

Given how easy it is to heal and stock up on tons of healing... You don't ever need to die.

The reason the LP is taking a long time is because they are taking it FAST!

And because they're so very bad about dying. :-\ I keep hoping they'll notice how low their health is and use more potions, but no such luck. I hope that's just the players and not the control system preventing from quickly using the potions though.

Sure, not free if you actually lose money, but
... they'll probably just make you lose money ...

So I guess we wait until it comes out for that.

Although one neat use of the Nurse would be if they added any sort of more permanent effects (eg poisons, hallucinogenic mushrooms) that only the Nurse could remove. That'd be neat.

Especially since the nurse (for example) doesn't seem that terribly helpful. If you have to go back to your house to get healed, why don't you just blow yourself up. You'll be back at your house and healed, all for free. :)

Do the inventories seem a little large to anyone else? Doesn't seem to be any reason not to just pick up everything you ever find... Not 100% sure that's a bad thing, but it does feel a little odd.

Maybe I over stated almost nothing going on. There's some going on, but it never seems enough to just watch one of them at a time. Thus the waiting until there's a bit of a buffer built up.

I would love to see some of these other environments they've been talking about--floating islands, lava tunnels, and the dungeon. :)

LP part 13's up. Twitter/reddiit are apparently good ways to keep a track of when this stuff happens :P
I think I may just (try to) wait until the rest of them are out. There's almost nothing going on in each of the most recent ones and just when they seem like it'll get interesting, they call it for the next one...

I'm still looking forward to this game coming out, but the Let's Plays could use a little work so far as drumming up interest IMO.

I'm not joining because it's a Bastard Mod. Don't see the point myself.

This isn't a suggestion.
Perhaps if you'd pointed him in a more appropriate direction?

I'd suggest trying the DF General Discussion or perhaps DF Modding forums.

This does have merit, though I don't see why you oppose stone "reservation". While it might take a few more lines of code, it would decrease the amount of micromanaging for the player.
At least on my end, I would love to be able to designate a gigantic wall of some material before I've actually gotten around to digging out enough of the material. As I dig out more, the dwarves can carry it off to build the wall.

Perhaps an addition to the record keeper's screen showing how much of a material has currently been requested but not allocated? That way you can go see how much of a particular stone the dwarves want you to procure.

That could be at least mostly alleviated by either:
- Make workshops have specific jobs for specific materials (ie Make Marble Crafts)
- Add a filter to workshops that either allows or denies stone at that workshop (could also be done on a jobwise basis in the manager)

Both of which have been suggested before, but work well here as well.
