What I'm experimenting with atm is swapping orcs and goblins, by giving the Orcs names, [babysnatcher], etc. and removing same from the goblins, then swapping the progress triggers. I'm having a little troble making it work though. THe gobbos keep going extinct.

As for traps, I like them, but they're so easy to abuse, I decided to look for a compromise. Cage traps are single shot and require a steady supply of cages, while importation is a bit of a chancy way to supply traps. (Capture is more problematic still, because without traps, a strong force is needed.

Maybe we shouldn't worry too much about turtling. It has contibuted to the lack of epicness in the more recent sparkgears.

Interesting I once saw a self-defense weapon (I think it is called a Wabaku but I am probably wrong, it had some name that sounded too familiar) that functioned basically by being a bar of metal you hold under your fist.

It is supposed to be legal because you don't actually strike someone with it... but I doubt it as you could probably injure someone pretty bad by striking with the sides.

They're called steel bars.

I'm going to try to start the 2nd. I'll likely be too dwarfy on the first to play.

A kobold thief killed one of my champions once by cutting off his head.

It's not wrong. Dwarves simply always will to fire. They just like the sound.

Alrght. I'm going to use Civ Forge Unleashed + Orcs. Naturally, this is going to be a  slow game, with the new version coming out, but I'm still interested. Won't take anothe SG 8 turn, I'll be a bit busy setting IX up. How ablout these rules.

1. Keep the animal population and stone count controlled.
2. You may engrave only underground, unless the outside area is entirely surrounded by walls.
3. Stonefall traps are prohibited. Weapon trapsw are allowed, but only imported and captured weapons are allowed
4. Turtle by permission only.

Part of my preparations for Project Cube involved digging channels in strategic locations in order to control the demolition of my environment.  As I did this, I pulled a Wile E Coyote.

I intended for an anchor point to remain solid and to have the map collapse around it.

Intead, the map remained whole and I collapsed my anchor point.

The one and only time I ever killed 182 dwarves simultaneously.

You, sir, are awesome

DC only works on Straight 40d, not the 40D# series. If you want to use it, you'll have to transfer your savr if you're using one of those.

Generally, I give dwarves jobs that won't conflict. For example, because of the way I butcher, I rarely have an issue with hides rotting. Thus, I have one dwarf do both tasks. Hauling takes up so much dwarfpower, I try to keep the labor pool smaller.

You do realize that if Hydras regrow heads freely, we'll end up with >10,000 headed Hydras from worldgen, right?

Of course, such a hydra would likely collapse under its own weight due to DF's realistic treatment of bodies.  This reminds me of a certain comic that I can't find the link to.

Rich Burlew's Order of the Stick used that gag.

Only the largest branch. Some of Salavatore's work owes very little, and, of course, Harry Potter owes next to nothing.

I'm assuming you mean R.A Salvatore.  I haven't read much of his work but isn't it mostly Forgotten Realms stuff; which is a D&D setting?

There's a huge list of authors in the back of one of the 1st edition D&D books.  I should get to reading some of them.  I guess a good rule of thumb for avoiding Tolkien-influenced fantasy is to read anything that was published before the 1950s.
Most of his novels are FR, but he also wrote a series called Demon Wars that had no dwarves, the Elves were completely different from Tolkien, and magic came from (supposedly)sacred gems.

I think I'll run one wiht Civ-forge unleashed and Orcs, if nobody else wants to run it. That way, the 40d series sparkgears will have used both major expansion mods.

well, I name my dwarves alphabetically based on Migrant waves, with babies always getting the name theme of the parents.

starters: A
1st wave: B

etc.

Also, I always build a big courtyard wall around the entrance to my fort.

What do you do if Charlie has a kid with Erin?
