sure does.  Now equipping them with proper gear you might find is a bit more difficult ^^

Who cares about proper gear?  I'll equip them all with bone helms and greaves in my no-trade, wood and glass mega-saguaro shaped all-surface fort.  Maybe they will get leather cloaks too.

So by allowing immigrants to be drafted, does that mean all military things are allowable for them?  Training, patroling, sentry duty, etc.

198
They are all mine.  88

The one on the left is a crematorium.  Uses furnace operating to convert remains to ashes.

The one on the right is a craftdwarf workshop waiting for construction.

The only time I got two in my group, they had the worst physical stats imaginable.  It seems like I get steel dwarves more often than gloomers though.

I updated the second post with lists of the starting seven and a player list.

We still need 3 more people to get going.

I've always wondered how it would work to make the obsidian dwarves sentries, and have a small, forbidden pile of booze near the entrance.  Can obsidian, gloomer, or aspid dwarves attack up or down z-levels?

202
Actually I kept it in.  Only modification to 1.8 that I made.  Raised the boiling temp and got rid of fixed temp though.  I'm going to try to weaponize it.

203
So a brewer/grower, a miner, and a smith.  Arni, you can only get 5 levels of mining.  You still have 5 skill points left.  Want anything in particular?

@Deon
Actually, I kept blacklung in in modified form.  I got rid of the fixed temperature, and raised the boiling point to 11000.  I'm hoping this will let the dark coal stay solid and safe, but if it is heated, boil and cause blacklung.  I've got an idea for weaponizing blacklung, and if I make a bunch of mugs out of the stuff, I'll have more than I ever need.

204
Done and done.  Descriptions have been added to the second post.

Arni, do you want a particular name, or shall I just use Arni?

Events of 18th Limestone, 1051

"Ingiz! Ingiz!  The crows are in the fort!  I repeat, the crows are in the fort!" Deon yelled down the stairs, "Stop smoothing the floors and get up here to kill them."

"Can't Argonnek handle it?  They are only crows.  I'm busy"

"What makes you think an obsidian dwarf fighting inside near a still would be a good idea?"

"I'm on my way."

Grue McGee sadly said.  "She was a good little ferret.  Didn't kill anything that wasn't worth killing."  He tossed the body in the refuse pit.  "Oh well, at least she had a female kid not too long ago.  We'll just be a little delayed in getting ferret skin loincloths."

Hazey Jane scolded him. "Thats not very nice.  Its to bad the crows flew off before Ingiz could get there to kill them."

"Hey guys! You might want to get up to the wall.  But keep your heads down.  We've got company." Therleth Thimshure shouted down from the entrance.

Deon's Report:  1st Limestone, 1051

Autumn is here.  We should find out soon whether or not the Dwarven church knows we are here.  They often send priests disguised as traders during this time of the year.  We are sealed away, so they will be no threat.

I've included sketches of the interior of the main fortress.

First level

Second Level

Third Level

Besides the smoothing effort by yourself, Therleth Thimsure is expanding the tower towards the far shore, Hazey Jane is farming, Grue McGee is fishing, Argonnek is helping out with both fish cleaning and food hauling, and Doompotato has been hauling stuff.  I'm updating the stockpile records.

We seem to be doing well.

Can we still treat them as expendable slaves after killing their kittens?  59

Ingiz's Journal: 24th Hematite, 1051

Deon came by while I was smoothing the dining room floor to let me know I was now the expedition leader.

I don't particularily want to be the expedition leader.  I'm a busy dwarf.  After I get done smoothing everything, I've got a secret mining project in mind.

Since I don't have any time to keep track of the details of the fort, I have informed Deon that he has been delegated, well, just about everything. He will continue to be the resident psychiatrist, manager, broker, and bookkeeper as well as any other positions I may come up with in the future.  As such he gets to keep his office, and I've claimed the one next to his.

All he needs to provide me with is occasional reports on the status of the fort and any interesting events that have happened.

Here's the first report:

He has also informed me that OmnipotentGrue has decided that his name is ridiculus.  He wants to be called Grue McGee from now on.

Deon's Report:  1st Galena, 1051

There hasn't been much to report lately.  Work on the farms is progressing.  They should be ready by autumn.  Some skeletal dire wolves came by.  We sat safely on the wall and watched them.

However, today two poor souls died.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

These migrants arrived right next to a group of skeletal elephants.  They had no chance.  Grue McGee and Doompotato didn't even have time to make a bet about how long they would survive.  It was less than three seconds if you were wondering.

Name is changed.

All of the Cultists have Cultist as a profession for now.  Mostly as a holdover from before I gave them all custom names.  However in anticipation of eventually having a thriving migrant fortress outside, I'd like to have the cultists keep a little bit of unique flavor to their professional names so I can tell them all apart easier.  So Herring Hunter could become Brother of Herring, Fisher of Dwarves, Herring Hermit, etc.

I really like Grue, since he faithfully worships a diety of hospitality and yet does not like to help others.

I just generated a 2000 year world using Genesis 1.8.  I was hoping for some epic wars, but instead I got an interesting dwarven civ.

I'd be interested is doing a community fort with it, but I just started one not too long ago.  But if there is any interest, possibly a community/succession game?  Just thought I would post it here first before actually setting up a thread in the comm games part of the forums.

I went ahead and started up a thread for a succession game.

Its still in the formulative stage at this point.  I need a fortress name and six more starting dwarves.
