Kaldach's mouth twisted downward as he glanced back at the hilt of the Devil Sword. After a moment's deliberation, he walked until he was a good couple feet from the throne before pulling the sword- still sheathed- off his back, holding it in front of him yet out of the King's reach.
: "I can't let you handle the blade. It's not something that can be held safely."

242
The mercenary's eyes immediately narrowed and his hand suddenly fell still.
: "It might be. Do you know something about it?"

243
: "...You said your help would be diplomatic?"
Kaldach, for his part, remained standing at the foot of the table. His hand continued to flex, albeit slowly and without ever completely balling into a fist, while his gaze continued to be focused on the conversation.

244
Kaldach glanced around as they continued past the portcullis. His attention quickly shifted as he lifted his left hand up in front of him- once more out of several times he had done so as they traveled closer the King's manor, growing more frequent as the palace came into view.
: "..."
His eyes traced the muscles of his fingers as he slowly opened and closed the hand into a fist and back. He followed the group loosely, until he noticed they had been brought to a chamber, and the King apparent stood before them. He shot a glance at Martyn, but before long the mercenary simply spoke up himself.
: "When it's a nation like Mordo we're up against, can't be so choosy that we can't handle a couple bumps in the road."

245
: "So be it. Open combat is not my particular forte in any event."
Lian to 13,18. Shoot the Nomad.

246
Kaldach held his gaze on the peak of the mountain for a moment longer, the muscles craned upward seemed to disagree, has he soon looked down and rubbed the back of his neck. The days journeying here did enough of a number on his body, and the mercenary sighed in irritated agreement.
: "...Alright, fine. I'll ask elsewhere." Kaldach turned to head back to the inn, swords on his back rattling in tow.

247
: "...Ice? Even I'd think to at least use something that wouldn't melt in two minutes."
The mercenary glanced further up the mountain.
: "Don't suppose there's a time people can just get a closer look, is there?"

248
Kaldach stopped just short of the guards.
: "...Just a foreigner trying to get a lay of the land. Take it the volcano's important enough to guard?"

249
The mercenary continued to watch the movements along the mountain path, trying to gauge the pace they were moving.
: "..."
It seemed like a long way, the clouds above betrayed no sense of the time of day, but it was likely that a round trip to the peak would take at least a whole day. But perhaps, at least, he could take a closer look. His face seemed to tense as he lifted his right hand to clasp his left shoulder, briefly clutching it before starting to make his way towards the base of the mountain path.

250
Kaldach looked aside for a good minute.
: "...No Esther either. Hm."
With a glance back to the table, he picked up the bowl in front of him and stood, stopping a brief moment to place the bowl in front of the old chef before continuing on to leave the inn. Once outside, he glared up into the sky towards the volcano looming over the city. Hand over his head to provide some shelter from the falling ash, he tried to look around on the side of the volcano, squinting to see whether there were any manmade pathways creeping up from the foot.

Having finished the meal given to him minutes ago, Kaldach had leaned forward with his arms on the table, staring downward in thought as Martyn then got his attention.
: "Huh?" The mercenary glanced up, "...Right. I'd wager she's still concerned over how I've been fighting." He paused to shake his shoulder, rattling the Devil Sword behind it, "Risky, I know. But necessary. Probably doesn't help the last couple fights were won by the skin of our teeth."

252
Lian spared only a brief moment to stare at the shot now sticking out of her former opponent's head before drawing and nocking another arrow in quick fashion and replying to Drest.
: "Alas, such boorishness is out of my depth. I fear you will simply have to settle for more dead foes instead."

253
: "*grlf* Don't know how *snarf* they'd manage to stay in business if *gulp* they let that happen."

254
Clasping the bowl and immediately seeking a seat with a knife in hand, Kaldach spared no time in starting to practically inhale the surface of the bowl's contents, pausing only briefly to let the hotter parts of the meal cool off.
: "*grf* *gulp* ...Finally, some decent cooking."

Kaldach watched as the merchant left the room before letting out a small grunt.
: "Hm, that's that. I'll be eating, if anyone needs me."
Lifting himself up and turning around, the mercenary began to leave the room, heading downstairs to whatever dining hall there was.
