hammerer (or atleast i think that thats what the mysterious body guard is)?
Just a personal gaurd. No need to make assumptions.   ;D

Question about archer units. Do we just pay the initial amound of wood for the making of the bow, or do we need to also make arrows for them? Along that line, about how much ammo do archer units carry on them?

Botanos was taking a stroll through the streets of Harisha, and stopped when he saw a family with something on their back that could have at one point been called clothes.
"Why do you not wearing proper clothes?" he asked
"There have been no clothes made for us, so we just try to get by."
Botanos looked down and shook his head in dismay. What kind of proper empire had a population without clothes? When had times become so hard?
So he decided that rebuilding the empire should begin with the people.
It should also begin with protecting the people with walls to not only give them the comfort of knowing they can sleep safely at night without risk of bandits, but to also to help defend the city, so more offensive troops may be sent out when the time comes.
To help utilize the walls that he hoped to have up within a few years, archers would need to be trained to help defend the city. First, however, they would need to figure out how to make bows for the soldiers that would be trained soon. Many researchers would be needed to figure out how to make bows correctly. The flight patterns of the arrows would need to be perfect if they were to stand a chance in ranged combat.
His short term goals had been set, so he went to go talk to Rogan about the long term plans for the Empire to be great once again.

Beanchubbs knows that the Dwarves need more space than his rock can provide. He grabs the rock and stretches it out and shapes it to the exact curve of the sun-sphere. He brings it to the sphere, and sets it down. With the end of an age undoubtedly coming soon, he decides to go and rest amongst the stars.

Beanchubbs places the rock and Dwarves upon the sphere.

I vote for an AEON

Well, my crystal is still orbiting around the sun... Right? I mean, you couldn't have blocked out the sun... And if my crystal turns into a crystal meteor, I just might have to torture all your elves for eternity in a VERY painful way. Have them get their livers constantly pecked out. Stuff like that.

You're acting as if someone stole something from you.  :D

As he was walking through the fields, Botanos frowned, the farms weren't bringing in as much bounty as he had wished. He noted this in his head and moved on.

Another thing on his list to do was to begin a military of some sort. Rogan, the General, requested at least one group of soldiers to be made, if nothing else at least for protection of the city.

Botanos also wished to make use of the quarry so the growing city can make sturdy, stone structures, like the cities of old.

Having noted all that he wished to do, he returned to his office so he could figure out the logistics of it all.

Beanchubbs looks at the rock he is sitting on. He sees that the dwarves are unhappy with them being the only life that they know is left, so he dug back into the depths of his mind, back to when he created his first plant. How many years ago it was. He remembered that the beginning of the plants was water. So he dug out a great imprint in the rock, and began sweating profusely. He stood over the imprint until it was filled to the brim, and then he looked for a place over the rock, to watch it grow as he watched the Earth grow.

Beanchubbs creates an ocean on the rock.

Don't feel bad. It's not like we're not gods and can't redo it.
I also agree with you that the retirement of a God needs to be major and memorable.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your favorite Dwarf.

I'd have to say my favorite dwarf was Urist McGimpypants. I've told his story a few times before. It's not a very awe-inspiring story, and he didn't do as much as many other dwarves I've had, but he was my favorite.

A peasant-turned-speardwarf, he was patrolling the very first successful fortress I ever had, when he got ambushed by 2(?) squads of goblins. He was alone, as the rest of his squad and military was drinking/eating/sleeping. He killed 5 gobbos with his spear, then it got stuck in another guy's leg, so he fought off the rest with his bare hands. Keep in mind he was only a skilled speardwarf and a novice wrestler. He killed two more by wrestling, then the rest, being scared off by his awesomeness, ran away. He had a mangled leg, and both arms were broken.

A few years later, he is back on his feet and ready for action. A gobin siege comes, and his squad is the only one that is battle-ready. They held the gate while the champions drank. All of them died. All of them except for Urist McGimpypants. I don't remember his wounds from this battle, but they were about the same as the last one.

He continued in this cycle of being awesome then being broken until my fortress was flooded. He simply refused to die in battle. And for that, my love goes out to him.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Goblin/Dwarven Civ

The most noteworthy instance of this was Cacame, the most badass elven king of dwarves ever. But yeah, different races taking notable positions in a civilization isn't too uncommon. What happens is that in world gen, a civ might take over a different civ's town and the conquered people integrate themselves into the conquerers civ. Sometimes they rise up to important positions, like king/queen or diplomat etc.

The only trait that changes is the "Doesn't really care about anything anymore." It's given to people who see lots of death. There are varying levels of that, but as far as I know, that's the only trait that ever changes.
