DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What do the skills do?

And I think that dodging still ups the wrestling skill.

Somehow my wrestling still goes up despite my lack of using it.

Aslot Blindedterrors.
Goblin.

Having been sent on a suicide mission to kill a bronze colossus, Aslot found herself beating things to death with a recently acquired Troglodyte head that she'd manage to rip off with her bare hands.

Sadly, after having ripped an elkbird's right horn off and killing it, another beat the snodub out of her.
The cave crocodile that came next didn't help.
Nor did her finally finding the colossus.

Aslot now seeks to find little holes here and there in the cave that she can sleep in to heal.
She runs from one to another, fleeing everything.

On the bright side she kicked and bit a troglodyte til she RIPPED ITS HEAD OFF WITH HER TEETH.

Goblins are hardcore.

Oh no! The American health care system! :o
Just kidding.

But in all seriousness, I can't even get my military dorfs to rescue the one I have underground right now.

Or kill the troll that keeps harassing for that matter.

Just as long as no one makes a Spartan Saiyan race that uses castes to decide what rank the warrior is. X_X

More realistic ants is always welcome, though!

And my first world? Fittingly, it's called...

The Past Universe.

To all that we leave behind and all that we gain, entering a new era of Dwarf Fortress!
The one I'm playing now is The Ageless Planet.

It seems so fitting in such an odd way to me.

It's the same way as you always set jobs.

Only now each job is in a subsection and you just have to find which subsection it's in.

Like um... masonry is in the stoneworking area, I think.

Yes.

I received an arrow to the throat from point blank range.
It took the skin off my cheek, too. :(

Killed the guy and ran to hide while waiting for the bleeding to stop.
Went to sleep.  Didn't wake back up.

DF Bug Reports / Re: [0.31.01] No Fish. Anywhere.
« on: April 03, 2010, 10:35:24 am »
Fortress near the ocean.  Designated fishing zone and it showed there were 35 or so fish.  Fished for a short time and then it was completely empty.  Didn't even catch any fish.  The ocean shouldn't run out of fish.... that's one reason I embark on ocean areas.  Something strange is definitely happening.  But, man, what a great game!
Yuve embarrked on theh ocean a bit too much, laddie.
An' now we all pay fer yer crrimes!

"The spinning Nako Xuspgasosmsman's corpse strikes The Dwarf Fish Dissector in the left upper arm, jamming the bone through the left shoulder's muscle and shattering the left shoulder's bone!
An artery in the left shoulder has been opened by the strike!
The Nako Xuspgasosmsman's corpse has lodged firmly in the wound!"

That's right, throwing corpses is so awesome, you can get them lodged into people.

As awesome as it is, I just picked up the blood of a dwarf I just killed and have been throwing it at the others.

"The spinning Ngom Scourgepain's dwarf blood strikes The Dwarf Lye Maker in the left upper leg. . ."

...is this supposed to be possible, considering it's not in a container or anything?

I'm going to drain the water from my irrigation system into the Underground.

I figure it'll help rid of me of that scary Giant Cave Spider down there. :(

Out of curiousity, even if it doesn't deal large amounts of damage as a weapon, can it block attacks better than all else due to natural hardness of the material?

I mean, otherwise what's the point of going for it?
Statues that are worth a lot?  Meh, not worth the hassle.

Im fairly sure there are no tendons in the skull...

really? do  you not chew  your own food like the rest of humanity?

The rest of humanity chews with their skull? Because I chew with my jaw.

And your jaw is attached to...
...the trombone?

Check your stats, you're almost always Superior in all your fighting stats (strength, agility, endurance, toughness) when you first start because of your skills.

So you start out as a god and just become more godly when you train.

Question: I don't actually know about endurance and toughness.  Are they both fighting stats?

I'm a bit dissapointed with hydras(haven't found any other megabeasts yet). My brand-new adventurer, had never fought anything else, punched one to death, and didn't even get hit. Before: accomplished dodger. After: legendary +15 fighter/wrestler. Punching kills things SLOW.

Also, I struck the finishing slow with the hydra's own tooth. I wonder if I can make this thing an artifact...

Edit: What the... I was exploring the caverns and found a bunch of leather + a stack of 5 prepared meals. It appears another adventurer failed to kill the colossus I was after. Best part is, that stuff wasn't there when I got here. It only showed up on the way out.

Yeah, me too. I killed one with a new adventurer without most trouble. It looks like it never attacked with all its heads. She never damaged me, for I dodged most of the blows, and when it hitted me it couldn't get past my iron armor.
Dodging is too strong.
I've been fighting a Bronze Colossus.  It has only touched me once: it grabbed my nose and released in the same turn (if that's what you want to call it).
We've been fighting for awhile, but my wooden spear can't harm him and he can't touch me regardless how much he charges.

Also, armor and shields.  My human adventurer only died because of a lucky bolt to the throat, beyond that no weapon or arrow could touch him.  He'd simply block.  And that was fighting goblins. :B
