The combat descriptions definitely make adventure mode 100X more fun. I died by having a pike stabbed into my mouth, and subsequently twisted.
Agreed, 100%!

So wait, is the April Fool's joke that we're going to think it's fake when it isn't?

SOME FORM OF ANTIFOOLS JOKE!

I hope I don't have Fun right off the bad while I'm enjoying myself. :(

No, both releases were buggy. I've spent the last year building up an appreciation for when the death of a mayor causes a riot that consumes the town.

Is "featurey" a word?

Dumb attacker?
Doom attacker?

I read Dumat Akur. :(

Dumat

Akur

I suck. T_T
Also, "The Trumpets of Wiping".  Wha-what what?
What are they wiping with trumpets?

Wait, so firing a crossbow bolt at someone is the same as having a [SPEED:1] dwarf stabbing people with the bolt?

I have trouble knowing what the support model for the game is.
URW at least is clear, the game is indy and will stay indy and for x dollars you get a life time license. My money flew to that one. Mount and Blade was clear. My money flew to that one.
This one is less clear. Do they want donations until they can sell the complete game and then we would buy it?  The other issue is that some people have been doing a "pledge money to donate when the next version comes out" thing that is certainly costing toady money right now.
I would say this game is worthy of spending money on right now. I have enjoyed trying to figure the damn thing out. But not sure what my dollars would do, are they the sole support for the team of two?
I don't think you have to worry about a version 1.0 coming out and making you pay.  :)
Plus, it'd be well worth the price tag he puts on it if he did which I doubt he ever will.
By the time 1.0 comes out, everything will be in the raws and any changes he makes could just be put into the previous version by a dedicated modder. :P

Unless he rewrites the game.

I think the UI is viable, actually, there just needs to be a few changes.

-Consistency. Navigating all menus should use the same keys, regardless of the menu. An exception can be made for menus that accept text, but all menus that take text should use the same key to back out as well. There are a few that do this.

-Job assignment. The in-game job assignment interface is HORRENDOUS! Anybody who has the patience to play DF without Dwarf Manager or Dwarf Therapist is either a masochist or has way too much time on their hands. An in-game dwarf management tool needs to be put in. There's no way it can be called 1.0 with such an awful interface.

Really, everything else falls under either better organization or a tutorial. Since new things are added constantly, an official tutorial would be pointless (think about if Toady had spent weeks designing a tutorial for the current military, then how much he would have to change it for the next version? Almost everything changed, the old tutorial and the weeks of work would be pointless). The same thing goes for organization, although some updates can be made (can we sort the animals menu by species instead of by date acquired? And can we get a search function for both types of stone and for the stocks menu) a lot is being added so a hard-coded or even raw based organization system wouldn't work.
I would just like to say that I don't use Dwarf Manager or Therapist because I don't want the hassle.  :P

If you resist the urge to engrave everything, tantrum spirals become more often an occurrence.

A tantrum spiral being where everyone starts tantrumming as if they're toddlers again... or worse.

Originally, I was going to post a somewhat long story in here, spoilered of course.
However, given the size and my inability to write decently, that idea was scrapped.

Regardless, Tekkud, one of my three squad commanders, has died today.  A victim of a bowgoblin suckerpunch with so many arrows it blotted out the sun.  Sadly, he did not last long in the shade.  He is survived by his lover and his 3x3 tomb.

With that being said, do you ever have times when you want to give up a fort but something happens that makes you change your mind?
And what kind of things?  It's the deaths of important dwarfs that makes me all, "AWWWWWWW". :(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Tantrum Spirals
« on: February 06, 2010, 09:08:11 pm »
I'm currently experiencing either the first or second tantrum spiral of Praisesling.

At least, I think it is one.  I've never had a problem and kinda decided I was bored with it.  So I put up four chains and a Captain of the Guard.  Last I checked, he was still beating every dwarf who didn't fulfill a production order.  Including my military.

Actually, I just noticed that I don't have a mayor.  It's a nice way to start a new job: beat your boss to death.

On a lighter note, I only have 9 punishments left to have dished out.
Half of my Justice list are already dead.

And if the fort somehow survives, hey, free FPS!

I had a similar problem, if I recall correctly, with an inability to break peeps out of prison since there was nowhere to let them loose.

DF Suggestions / Re: MY magic thread
« on: February 05, 2010, 11:32:05 am »
Speaking of which, I'd like to see responses to when the raws are switched mid-world. If you suddenly mod groundhogs to be size 20, make every dwarf worry about the sudden increase of groundhog size. Make wizards suicidal if magic is turned off, with very few being able to cope.
That's very meta. It would require all the previous version of the raws to remain accessible, otherwise creatures won't have a point of reference to notice something is amiss.
Keep a copy of the old raws in the save folder somehow so they can cross-reference?
