As the door to the Crystal Rose opens, tiny charms attached to it tinkle out a greeting, and it reveals a cozy little shop, For most of the incoming group, it was... comfortable, like coming home after a long day's work, or stepping into an air conditioned building when it's in triple digits outside. This... can't quite be said about Lily. Reaching the door, she'd feel a faint buzzing sensation in her fingers, like her hand was nearing a strong electrical current, or touching something that was vibrating at high speeds.

Then a voice from inside calls out "Come on in!", and the sensation vanishes, or rather subsides, leaving only a sort of unsettling tingling in her spine as she steps over that boundary.

The inside of the building is rather packed and disorganized-looking, with stands and displays of various new-age looking magical and spiritual items seemingly strewn about at random, though on closer inspection, some sense of order could be seen, as if the building was arranged according to some strange law that didn't quite fit anything specific. Today, a woman in her 20s sits behind the counter, smiling broadly at them as they come inside.

"My, my, we don't get new customers often. Welcome to the Crystal Rose, I hope you can find everything you're looking for, here." Her voice was sweet and happy, not unlike the sound of the chimes above the door, and after making sure none of them have any questions, she settles back down to a little book about fortune telling, leaving only one last comment. "If you're here for the meditation lessons, I think there's one going on in the back." She'd point toward what looks like the door to a backroom, smiling again.

"I never said I was normal. Just that I was nearby and came to help. Who in this part of the city is normal? Then again, I suppose some are more normal than others..."

He pauses, frowning, then sighs, pulling the coat off his shoulders and tossing it over. "Here, it's something at least. Think I should leave it to you... professionals?" sweet merciful Buddha that was hard to say with a straight face. These morons? professionals? how the hell was the city still intact?

"You're sure she's safe? I mean, if she was a... er... sushi monster before, what if she turns into one again? I mean..."

He shakes his head.

"Man, this is just too much for me. Does this happen all the time around here?"

Weekend 2 Events

Two scientists stare intently at a glowing readout sat in front of them, upon it a vague outline of a human form, not dissimilar to what one would expect to see in an x-ray or MRI. This, however, was of notably stranger origins, a technological projection of a magical phenomenon. When they'd turned it on, they'd expected to see something like a temperature map across the subject's body, but this... This warranted further study. They dial up the precision on the magical scanner they were employing. This would be a little uncomfortable for the subject, but nothing major, not compared to... whatever this was they were seeing. after a time, they'd power off the magic circle they'd used to determine her magical signature, and have her take a seat nearby, placing a printout in front of her.

"This shows the dispersal of thaumic energy inside a human's body. You'll see that while it generally pools in certain areas of the body and along some set paths, it generally radiates out from these points all throughout the body. And this..."

They produce another sheet, this one showing a similar human form, this time covered in small, red lines crisscrossing their body, seemingly tangled up around certain locations inside it, roughly two dozen or so such clusters spread throughout. Unlike the first, the energy seemed to exist only in these narrow channels, not radiating out through the rest of the body like was apparently normal.

"This is what your readout looks like. The energy in your body seems to be much more concentrated, not spreading through you like a living being, or distributed entirely through the body like the other subject's. We theorize that this might mean that you may be able to produce much higher energy density than normal when making use of that power. We're not sure, yet, but we'd like you to stop by again once you've picked up at least one spell, so we can experiment further."

Bernie and Alex are sitting together, as far away from Scarlet as they can get without it actually looking like they're avoiding her (more for comfort than anything else), reading through old dusty tomes about the nature of luck and ritual magic...

Quote from: On Destiny
Luck, as most refer to it, is merely a quantification of the will and bias of god and the universe. By manipulating several underlying factors, a sufficiently prepared wizard or being can shift the balance of the phenomenon known as luck, to some degree uplifting or damaging their own or others' chances of success. This book will endeavor to impress upon you how such things can be affected, both on the scale of ritual and evocative magic, with the intent of enlightening you to the true power of this branch of magic.

Quote from: Rituals and magic Foci
By encoding certain sigils and signs upon a vessel, one can cause the flow of magic to change naturally as it passes through such devices. In this way, one can 'store' a spell or other effect within such items, to be released by simply filling said vessel with magic and casting it at the desired target. The process for this takes quite some time, and is involved, requiring no small amount of improvisation to adjust the technique to different spells, but can in theory be applied to any feat of magic one might be capable of...

Crystal Rose - A new age shop dealing largely in spiritual trinkets, cures and self-improvement. Highly popular with a small community of mystics, the shop is well stocked with helpful "white magic" items such as chakra-balancing crystals, dream catchers, incense and other aids for empowering or enlightening the self. Owned by a middle aged couple helped by their children, the store often houses activities such as meditation circles or acupuncture lessons. -- Spending the evening at the store counts as a mentored class in Essence and Attunement. In addition, certain magical and pseudo-magical items can be purchased here.

Arcane - A highly popular boardwalk arcade stocked with rare and highly challenging games. On the weekends it has a discount for infinite-ticket cards allowing those who have the patience to stand in like to have as many goes as they like at a particular game. When playing with a partner, the results of the separate players' checks will be added together and used to calculate stat gains.

"I... There was a girl inside? That's...
Weird."

295
Hideyuki takes a half-step back at the bird-girl with the massive fireball suddenly flying over. damn that thing was hot, he could feel it all the way over here.

"Er... you have a... fireball. It's rather uncomfortable. Wait, naked girl?" That was... interesting. He wasn't aware that what it seemed like they were fighting had human disguises.

296
"Well, the explosions seemed to have stopped, to be honest. Can't say I'm particularly upset about doing it, though." He grins. "Everything seems alright,
after all. Plus, if I'd just left when someone might be hurt, I'd never forgive myself. Just doing what any good person would do, really."

297
He blinks, acting rather surprised when she suddenly swooped up to him, smiling broadly, if a little nervously. "Oh, I see. Sorry to bother, then, I just heard all the explosions and things, thought I would see if anyone was hurt... I have medical supplies in my bag if they're needed?" Unlikely, and not a lie, he did carry a light trauma kit with him in his bag for emergencies. "Sorry, I'm being rather rude, aren't I? I'm Hideyuki Ito, it's a pleasure to meet you." His manner remains affable, though internally he's a little amused that of all the things to have in a group like this, there's a nekomimi. Figures.

298
#1: A winged girl. Corvid, from the wing shape and coloration. From the distortion of the air around her, her body is emitting a great deal of heat. Likely the source of the detonations and fires in the area. Either reckless, stupid, or both.

#2: What evidently is the remains of the incident. Not much seen as of now, but the epicenter of the destruction seemed to be where it had fallen. A lingering haze surrounds it as well, something like steam.

#3: There was a large group around the crow. A team? No, not necessarily. A group, more like. Anything more is making assumptions, but they likely were what had dealt with the Incident.

Best course of action... get closer and investigate. hiding likely impossible, but he can always say he was just curious about the explosions, wanted to see if anyone was hurt. His stride quickens slightly into somewhat of a jog toward the group, or more accurately, toward the area in general, not really trying to hide himself, and in fact approaching in such a way that it's almost impossible for them to not see him. Likely, they were wannabe heroes, and he could gather some information from them.

"I'm late."

That was frustrating. He was used to showing up to things like this before they got out of hand, dealing with them quickly and quietly, and then leaving again before anything got overly complicated. Today, that didn't seem to be the case. Inconvenient, at best.

The young man sighs, slinging the bag back over his shoulder, contemplating for a moment leaving. Then again, while this wasn't a Horror, someone had dealt with it... Rather sloppily, too, considering that everything is on fire, and they obviously weren't just going to stop... apparently using high explosives to deal with supernatural threats. And fire. Which... to be fair, fire isn't a bad option, but... they seem to have applied it rather liberally.

"Best to head that off before it gets any worse."

He sighs, reaching up to rub the heel of his palm against his forehead, and starts walking toward the place that seems the most bombed-out, wagering that that'd most likely be where they managed to finish the thing. He'd at least get an eye on whomever did this.
