Except I had a tamed snakeman once, he had some interesting things to say. Like how all his buddies starved to death.

Screenshots or it didn't happen.

Nah. It doesn't do this with doors either.

actually if ya look theres a couple of down ramps in the huge dug out area that look like they're within wave range, i'm not sure how much time passes between an abandon and a reclaim but that could've caused it mabe?

I don't believe so. I played the fort a few years without any flooding problems.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: releasing animals from cages

Build the cage on the ground. (Press B, and then press J)

Then you can use Q and mouse over the cage, then press A to assign to that cage. You can assign or unassign creatures from that cage.

Personally, I use one cage, assign all creatures (except hostile caged) to it. Whenever I buy animals or new animals are born, I just stick 'em in that cage for later.

Well, I made an attempt. Hit some problems.

Aquifers. Stone was limited.

Poor living accommodations. Dwarves weren't the happiest.

Food/Alcohol problems. Made too much beer to start. All food was turned to alcohol. Then the dwarves had problems getting food. Tried mass-plant gathering. Eventually, they ran out of alcohol before enough food was grown to produce beer. Tantrum spiral.

I must say though, the most amusing thing in this fortress was when I promoted my woodcutter to Sheriff. Dealing his "beatings" on sleeping dwarves... with a steel battle axe...

Anyway, no way did I get close to an embark screen wide bridge... I didn't even make it halfway across on a 9 tile wide bridge.

Tried to reclaim, but everything I dug out was completely flooded somehow. Decided to abandon the project for now. Another time, perhaps.

Also, I found it is amazingly difficult to build support underneath the bridge. Wasn't going to be there for any particular reason. Just to make it look good in 3d images. But I couldn't manage a way to build them in. I'm sure someone else could, with enough screwpumps. But I wouldn't be able to.

Is it the odd font you are referring to? If so, go to file, options, hit the "Grid Options" tab and you should see a "Change Font" button on the mid-right side.

It seems some more testing is needed.

Quote
Elves can talk to the animal-man races (such as snakemen and batmen) and even get the most excitement-seeking ones to join their party.

Has anyone who has played an elf ever tried this? I believe I've tried once but had no success.

EDIT: Who else thinks this deserves a place on the eternal suggestion list?
Oh hell yes.

It's kind of "Meh". The problem is not really gamebreaking. This answer is not a full on convenience. Just a minor convenience.

Not to mention, it drops the creature unconscious without damaging it. Sometimes this may be desirable, depending on how you have fun.

Personally, when slaughtering elf children, I don't mind gouging their eyes out. Same results, less wrestling moves. Elves don't need eyes.

I always get the "Dwarves cancel farmplot due to stone" message even when there is an a tile where they can dump the stone...
Freaking dwarves.

The dwarf constructing the farmplot won't touch the stone on the spot if it is set for dump. But if you don't set that stone for dump and place the farmplot, the dwarf will remove the stone as it builds it.

At least I assume so, I know this works when constructing ANY other construction.

No.

I've been working on it, and it's been hard enough just connecting the two edges. I've got it at 9 tiles wide so far and only halfway down. This uses just a TON of shale considering the aquifers. If you want a huge local area wide bridge made of one material and multiple Z-levels, then feel free to show me up.

I know Toady wants to allow dwarves to carry multiple small objects (and the use of wheel barrels and mine carts for larger objects), but that's a ways off.
