New fort, and withing the first month five of my starting seven are tantruming because of grudges. How do I stop dwarves from randomly trying to kill each other?

I want to use stuff from the new hidden fun stuff as reagents to replace the stuff from the 40d HFS and megabeasts in a mod I'm porting. Does anyone know how to do this?

DF Modding / Armor Exclusivity

I remember reading that if there are multiple variations of an armor type (shoes, gloves,helm, etc.) in an entity's equipment list, then some of them will be randomly chosen to be excluded from the civ ingame. Can anyone confirm whether or not this is true, and also, if it is, does anyone know how to make sure that the items get in? I'm making a custom modded suit, but it won't work unless all the parts are worn at once.

Never mind, using FORCED will make sure the civ will have the item.

DF Gameplay Questions / Obsidian=Wood?[solved]

I dug up a magma pipe, used water to make obsidian, then turned the obsidian into short swords to sell. I then bring the swords to an elven caravan to trade for some livestock. I designate some of them to trade for some of the heavy wooden junk, then those damn hippies start whining at me about how my obsidian short swords are defiling nature because they once were beautiful trees ("Once a beautiful tree, and now? It is a rude bauble fit only for your kind"). Does anyone know what this is all about? I don't really want to give the elves anything, but I want the caged animals they're dragging around but I don't have enough defenses set up yet to take on a siege.

edit: ok, sorry about that. I remember reading that on the wiki now, but I had forgotten. I guess I'll stick t mugs and scepters now. thanks.

If I found an embark site I really liked but it didn't have some of the animals I want, would I be able to abandon the fort, start another fort in a place with the animals, capture some, unbuild the cages, abandon that fort then use an adventurer to carry the animals to the other site before reclaiming it to get the animals?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Not enough food/water?

Ok, so I have a food stockpile with a few squares of fresh raw fish and lots of wine and ale, and I have access to 2 rivers and a multitude of pools near my wagon. 5 of my dwarves are doing fine, but I sent 2 to mine out a cave underground and they reached level -3 and cleared out some rooms on each level, but now they won't come up to the surface. I assigned foraging jobs to one and nothing happened. they've been down there just sitting around for a while, sleeping every once in a while and they're both starving and thirsty. Is there any way to get them to come out so they won't die?
