OOC Thread is here!

1st Early Summer 1880
Agua Fria, Sheriff's Office

Matt Hammer, Sheriff of Agua Fria: "Greetings, our new Deputies! You begin your new life as upholders of justice and law in Southwest Texiana. Of course, I expect you to cooperate and accept bounties from my colleagues in Santa Cruz, Riverside and Wilhelmsburg if you happen to swing by them. Be brave and be fearless, folks of the region depend on you to hunt down those outlaws and fugitives. And if worst comes to pass, you will be buried with honors."

Matt Hammer, Sheriff of Agua Fria: "Y'all ready for that, right? Say so, because I have three bounties and am ready to give you whichever one you four feel fancy pursuing."

//Guy "The Wild" Gal (TricMagic), Jackson "The Shootist" Rex (AzyWng), Pat "the Ghost" Gibbet (notquitethere) and Miguel Manuello de la Costo (Kashyyk) are now active Deputies!

You might remember Wild West Shootout, and now we go with the expanded ruleset for a roleplaying(?) game!

Long story short, 4 Deputies will traverse the Southwest Texiana County to fulfill Bounties placed upon heads of dangerous Outlaws.

In return, you gain money you can spend on better equipment and luxuries of life!

But remember that even the bestest shooter might be felled by just one bullet!

Oh, and don't forget to get some wild tunes on!

Starlight Mechanized Corps
Heroic High-Schoolers Fighting to Defend Their Homeworld Maia from Grotesque Alien Invaders from Outer Space:
What Do You Mean It's Not For Teens!?

Industrial Revolution Calendar, Year 995
Dr.Evangeline Starlight discovers the Compatibility Gene, a requirement for adolescent and adult Maians to correctly connect their organic brains to the Mind-Machine Interface, which itself was an experiment to help efficiently control the equally-experimental, multi-purpose, humanoid-shaped, fusion-powered Mechanized Warfare Constructs, or 'Mechas' for short. In recognition for Doctor Starlight's discovery, the newfound Gene is labeled 'Starlight Gene' by the scientific community.

IRC, Years 995-1000
Mechanized Warfare Constructs, pioneered by several powerful corporations, enter mass-production stage. Present in 0.34% of Maian population, the Starlight Gene indeed proves to be the best way to control Mechas. Many families undergo Starlight Search Test to see if they possess the necessary gene, allowing many talented young adults and high schoolers to enroll in various training programmes by civilian and military authorities around the planet. Wealth, prestige and recognition follows those that complete the training program and become Construct Pilot Officers, or 'Pilots' for short.

IRC, Midspring Year 1000
A meteor crashes unnoticed somewhere deep in Northwest Icelands. Nine months later, mega-governments across planet Maia receive reports of strange sightings, mutated animal attacks and disappearances of livestock and civilians from small villages and remote townships.

IRC, 1st Early Spring, Year 1001
Pan-Maian Governmental Security Council recognizes the existence of 'Outer Dimensional Alien Threat', and scientific community discovers that these invading xenomorphs radiate Mu particles, which are highly corrosive versus biological compounds. Therefore, the public quickly labels the terrifying new threat to Maia as 'Mu-Aliens', 'Mu-Morphs', or simply, 'the Mu'. Lethal to Maians, these aliens need to be combated from the protective shells of Power-Suits or, even more safely, from the cockpits of the Mecha.

IRC, 1st Late Winter Year 1001
In cooperation with VanZer, GunBlade, Centaur, and several other manufacturing and logistics companies, Starlight Corporation has publicly announced the creation of the 'Starlight Mechanized Corps', under budgetary oversight of Pan-Maian Government Council. A specialized unit, taking in high-schoolers from around the world, to train and equip them for singular purpose: investigation, fighting, containment, and ultimately, destruction of the Mu Threat!

Welcome to RTD: Starlight Mechanized Corps! A managerial game with influences from wildy varied video games such as Idol Manager, X-Com, Crying Suns and Front Mission!

In this game, you will take on the role of SMC Commander and any additional SMC Sub-Commanders while the aforementioned heroic high-schoolers go battle the aliens. You will be prompted to make construction, financial, and most importantly, social decisions during the span of the game. After all, these are teenagers; they're vulnerable to adult influence, their budding sexuality and raging hormones are making the adult world scary and confusing. Scandals, infatuations and rivalries are galore in such environment, where quirks, upbringing and cultural differences might make the otherwise prim and proper A-grade teenagers into fistfights.

Can you manage the SRC base just as good as you can manage the youngsters? Can you protect them just like they protect the people of Maia by risking their lives and careers?

The first Player becomes the Commander, making base and deployment decisions, as well as being the representative of SMC in the wider world of Maian social media and dealings with Pan-Maian Government Council. Any subsequent player will be Sub-Commander, each responsible for 1 Team of up to 4 Pilots, solving their disputes, social incidents, and other things, unless the Commander themself will be required. Sub-Commander slots will be generated whenever the Commander accepts applications of enough new Recruits to create a new Pilot Team. The Pilots themselves are not players, instead, they are NPC characters randomly generated and given own personalities, stats and quirks.

Feeling it became too much for you? No worries, just retire yourself and let someone else take your place!

And worry not, mechanics and lore will be introduced by humble myself via self-insert as Chief Secretary Maia Sanders.

Enter Your Commander Name here!
SMC Commander: K. Shiek, played by Kashyyk
Previous Commanders: Argent Greene, played by Glass

SMC Sub-Commanders:

  • Alice Gaine, played by Maxine: Team Flame

Time to unite the British Isles once again!

Compared to the 2nd game (which is still running, no worries), there are several changes:
  • Emulating Generals of Warring States but at much, much simpler scale, each Player now will have a King, who shall provide bonuses (sometimes penalties) during Their rule.
  • Map of Scotland was made more robust and Kingdom-making States shuffled about, making it almost as big as England; Scottish islands now contribute to Kingdom-making.
  • Map of England was expanded too, and Worcester is no longer the English gateway to Welsh territories (Sea #8 was removed to prevent easy Irish attack vs Welsh as well).

General Discussion / Time Capsule 2023
« on: December 10, 2022, 03:49:45 am »
Now that xmas giveaway is underway, it is time for another bay12 tradition to continue: time capsule!

If you do not know, here you can save some words for your future self (as in, 1 year from now). I will ask Toady One to hide this thread on 1st January 2023 (the day when Time Capsule 2021 shall open), and it shall be opened on 1st January 2024.

Common sense and decency dictates that you don't look into people's spoilers :)

The great war is over.

The belligerent kingdoms are in ruins and engulfed by chaos.

The roads are unsafe, the travelers seldom to be seen, the nights long and the sun dim.

As the world seems to crumble around, you, dressed in rags and carrying what little money you have, by a stroke of luck you stumble on an abandoned inn on the side of a road that crosses the mountains that form the border between the ruined kingdoms... and you decide to become the inn's newest keeper!

Innkeeper's Name:
Establishment's Name:
Innkeeper's Past: Soldier*, Bard*, Peddler*, Scholar*, Carpenter*, Peasant*

Naval matters, heave ho!

Compared to the freshly finished game there's quite a *lot* of changes:
  • Generals now can have a Trait that further tweaks their usefulness for certain tasks.
  • The Great River splits the map in two; provinces adjacent to it are easier to Invest into, and to defend against attacks from the other side.
  • Speaking of Investments, they take 4 Rice now, which can further be reduced by playing Confucians, or being adjacent to Great River, or even both!
  • The Eastern Sea now can be used to launch naval expeditions to surprise your enemy.
  • Amount of states on the map raised from 63 to 104, the maximum I can squeeze out of the maps related to Spring and Autumn/Warring States periods that I have access to.
  • Due to the above, Players slots and State colors raised to 12 as there should be plenty of space for everyone, and Hegemonic Victory now occurs after Turn 20.

It is now 1030pm. Your shift has begun.

Today is your first ever shift at the fishing holes.

You are also alone, except for Markus working in the lab, cleaning the mermaid-tubes.

You're in the main working area, which is brightly lit. Your work computer is on. The expedition roster is pinned to the blackboard, with two names written off with red marker.

Your desk is mostly empty. You haven't finished your coffee, but by this time its probably cold.

The commstation in the corner is giving out static, and the blizzard raging outside the station only makes it worse.

You need to log-in to the SiebenburgOS to begin.

A) Login to SiebenburgOS (state your character's name)
B) Check the expedition roster.
C) Call out to Markus.
D) Finish your coffee.
E) Listen to the commstation's radio.

Have a soundtrack to read the rules with.

A new mechanic has been added: Generals. You get them at start, get them passively, you can spend Rice to get some; you can lose them ignobly and in droves, if you're not careful. They get you bonuses to Conquests and Defenses, but dare you leave them with little Rice, banking that their Skill Levels will carry out your plans instead?

Addition of Generals have influenced Schools of Thought: Legalists start with 2 Generals extra instead of +5 Rice; Confucian bonus now includes cheaper General recruitment, too.

Every year I have this hunger, hunger for blood, steel and oil :P

The stuff that has changed compared to the previous game: Research was fleshed out, Combat uses 1d8 for rolls, you can set up Treaties (with bonuses to choose from!), set up Military Doctrines to further tweak your strategy, but more importantly, Max Army Limit is now calculated differently (factories and industry/biology techs = more armies), plus a ton of minor things. You're the new director!

The SPAMFLEET HEADQUARTERS is keeping an eye on your developments; do well and they will keep you, do bad and they will replace you.

SPAMFLEET needs you especially now that the existence of civilized aliens (the insectoid Glorks, and the reptilian Rambaduntani) have been confirmed and the Warp Theory has been proved (SFHQ is still trying its hardest to recover the experimental warp ship).

January 2200

Your secretary presents to you the SPAMFLEET Roster and SPAMSHIP Component List.

Spoiler: SPAMFLEET Roster (click to show/hide)

"Our facilities are the Utopia Spamitia Yards on Mars, for construction and testing of new prototypes, and the Europa Warlab, for testing developed technologies and making up new ones." He puts down a datapad on your desk.

"The first commission from SFHQ is that we need to determine whether Spamtacus-class Escort is viable for refit or should they nag the Government about approving a new ship class. As you know, refits allow to install new equipment on old ships to prolong their service span, while a new ship needs to be designed, built, tested and approved."

A) "Spamtacus is a warp-less, costly design that will be a pain to refit. A brand new design is needed!"
B) "Refitting Spamtacus saves us valuable time and resources, given the existence of potentially warmongering aliens!"
