~~Prologue I: A Belated Homecoming~~

The trek through the countryside was a pleasant one up until the very end, where the forward scouts have brought bad news - Argaven Keep, untended for decades, have been infested with a plague of undead.

"And so here we are, unable to enter our ancestral home... poor Argavens and Barguedocs of old, they're restless corpses. We will put them to sleep." Lady Isabeau Argaven then began giving orders to the mercenaries and the loyal guards alike, directing them to all the important but not central places; the stables, the storage rooms, the kitchen, the towers...

Until only five people remained free and willing to take arms against the walking corpses.

"Stephen, Anna, Myrdwyn, Camille and Soren... you will go and cleanse the chambers of my family. It is not that I consider this an honour, as they will surely be infested with undeath the most... but I do not trust other servants with treasures of my family that are possibly still laying, undisturbed, in their coffers. I would rather see you retrieve and use them than have them be plundered by the common men or sold on the market. For that purpose, I will give you these, Stephen." A small keyring of intricately-looking keys went into the bard's hands.

"May the Golden Candle, or whichever divine being you believe in, guide you safely through the ruins." And the group stepped forth toward the charred, roofless ruin of Argaven Keep... only hearing shuffling and clunking of the restless corpses still pacing about its halls.

Stephen gets Chest Keyring!

Stephen Reglos, Anna Candar, Myrdwyn Callaghan, Camille Rhys and Soren Varan are now active!

~~Player Turn 1~~

You send the quickest messenger you have, instructing the governor to spend all money set aside as yearly revenues on mercenaries.

891 AD, One week before Mid-Autumn

The siege of House of Lech continues, althought casualties and damage to the fortifications are both heavy. The Army sent to relieve the siege instead got caught in a bloody slaughter with one quarter of Damdamian invasion force.

The battle was won and the Damdamians retreated south of the House, but in the fighting, sixteen Oliphaunts were lost to the crossbowmen and wicked Damdamian siege engines with shoot sharpened wooden logs capable of splitting a man in two, and also proved to be very good at gouging the Oliphaunts' eyes or pierce their thick skulls.

891 AD, Four days after Battle at Lech

The fighting against the Damdamians continues, while with trumpets and cheering, two thousand Tven longbowmen and same number of light cavalry passes through capital of Luathbas as the Duke's sister, Lady Envynn, leads them!

You have them all sent to the frontlines.

Not as such great news come from Augas; the mixed soldiers and mercenaries troops are faring badly against the experienced and clever foes that are Damdamians. The province continues to fight, though.

891 AD, Mid-Autumn

Quote

Victory! Two thousand Damdamians fell in a brilliant tactical performance by Luathbas Army, led by Ceodwell! While a third of that number also died on Luathbas side, a victory is a victory.

Quote

House of Lech continues to fight on and actually managed to grind down some of the Damdamian siegers. However, reports place the outer walls in terrible state and the main keep itself is in ruin. The soldiers there are fighting basically on a fortified pile of rubble.

A guard arrives in your throne room - bringing a letter full of anguish and horror.

"What does that mean!?" You toss the parchment on the floor.

"It means what it is written, my Queen. King Beren, your vassal, has renounced your rule and pledged loyalty to Damdamian Republic. I assume that's why a quarter of the Damdamian Army moved there - either to pressure him or to protect him." The advisor bows his head.

891 AD, The next day

The Spymaster confirms the worst; King Beren have willingly been scheming with Damdamians for past few months, and secured independence and future ownership of 'western Luathbas' in exchange for betraying you!

A heavily-breathing messenger runs into the throne room and kneels before you.

"Your Majesty! Report from Augas! The forces of the Governor are having terrible time against the Damdamians and several outposts fell into their hands, but there might be hope; approximately three thousand of Gubta skirmishers and swordsmen are marching through Khosra, reports say, to offer you military assistance."

A) "Excellent news! Inform the Governor that he is given full ability to use the Gubta troops for defense of Augas!"
B) "Wonderful! Tell the Governor to split the Gubta reinforcements and keep half of them at his side to boost the defences of the province.
C) "Splendid! Have the Governor make sure that Gubta won't be harassed, and can reinforce central Luathbas with their full numbers."

You have letters sent to the Gubta, and your vassals, King Beren and Duke of Tven.

You also nominate Ceodwell to lead the men.

As the officers and courtiers leave the room, you sit on your chair, pondering: is it your greed that caused this, or was this inevitable? Will you crush the Damdamians, or will they consume Luathbas akin to unstoppable deluge?

Time will tell.

891 AD, One week later

Your Armies have moved southwards while a messenger brought a report - the House of Lech is under attack! Half of the Damdamian forces are besieging the fortress, concentrating their siege engines and infantry there.

Another quarter of Damdamians is besieging the southern lands; the last part have marched westwards, towards recently devastated lands of Chunug.

The Luathbas Army have received the news too, and have marched forward to the House of Lech.

891 AD, One day after that

Terrible news come from Augas! The province is under attack; one and half unit of Damdamian Army must have marched around (or through) the orcish hills and has begun pressing towards the capital city of the province. The fortified outposts hold well, as they did many times previously, but the province is lacking trops.

Governor of Augas pleads, in a letter, that you send part of the Army to safeguard the eastern flank. With the Army gone to field, you have to conclude that...

A) Augas is not worth losing Luathbas over, and thus no help will be given to the governor.
B) If the flank collapses, we're done for! Time to send a quarter of our Army there to keep it safe!
C) Augas is a rich province and therefore the governor should forget about yearly revenues, spending them on mercenaries instead.

Pretty positive there was a standard peashooter, and also at least two or three different types of beams v:

It wasn't a bullet hell, for sure; there was never as many enemies/projectiles on the screen at once.

You send a letter in which you inquire if King Antkuk is interested in marrying one of the other girls of yours as Eirike is simply not interested.

People of the south cry for help! The Damdamian Republic has invaded the borderlands!

A flurry of messengers and nobleman envoys report that four full units of Damdamian Army, totalling 16.000 men, backed by few thousand of cavalry and crossbowmen have crossed into Luathbas through the southern border. Scouts and spies alike report that the Damdamians have lots of supplies, siege engines and auxiliaries at their disposal, too. Already several smaller settlements have been captured and three outposts besieged as the bulk of the invading force is moving northwards.

Emergency council is convened during which the officers discuss all possible options. This time there would be no hesitation, an emergency mobilization is called at once. There are few other options, too...

As for vassal help...

A) Call upon King Beren and Duke Tven to provide troops.
B) Call upon King Beren to provide troops.
C) Call upon Duke Tven to provide troops.
D) Do not involve vassals yet, leave them for later.

As for foreign help...

A) Send an envoy to the Kingdom of Dahnia.
B) Send an envoy to the Gubta Empire.
C) Send an envoy to the Kashite Kingdom.
D) Let's not involve foreigners in this.

The officers look at the Marshal, who clears his throat, scratches his forehead and then looks at you.

"In such a dire situation, we would call upon our King to lead our armies against the superior foe. But as the laws and traditions have it, you do not need to get involved, Queen Elana. You son Ceodwell, as we found out, has quite a martial skill about him. Still, I shall ask on behalf all others: shall you lead us to victory?"

A) "FETCH MY CHAINMAIL DRESS AND SHIELD AT ONCE!"
B) "No, this is dire situation as you said, the royal family should not meddle with the frontline order."
C) "No, but my son Ceodwell shall lead you to victory!"

//Remember, no split votes, etc.

A caravan of gold is qucikly prepared and sent to the Damdamian Senate.

Few days later, there's an emissary from King Anktuk.

"Greetings, Queen Elana." He bows in respect. "My master, King Anktuk of Dahnia, wishes to know if Princess Eirike has been found, and if yes, if we can proceed with the marriage?"

A) Nah, no marriage.
B) Of course! We will send Eirike at once!
C) Ask if Anktuk would like Aife or Elga (the latter after she grows up few years) as a wife instead.

Now might be a tough one...

It was sci-fi side-scrolling shooter. It was released ~2000 I guess.

It was about small ship coming toward armada of aliens and of course blowing it up. Main bosses were mostly giant ships/robots which often 'opened' themselves to shoot out giant laser at you. Giant lasers of eveyr kind were basically everywhere in this game.

The objects in the game were comprised mostly of spherical/eliptic shapes and thanks to the cheap shading, they 'looked' as if they were 3D.

It had some backstory that you learned about after finishing the game. I also remember there was a mission with Jupiter in the background and the boss of that area looked like a tank.

I also think the game started with 'A' and ended with 'gi', the title sounded kinda japanese. I might be totally wrong about that part, though.

I still haven't found out what's this one game, pls help .<.

EDIT: And to pre-empt: not Gradius series, not Ikaruga, not Einhander. PC-ish game of sorts, first half of 2000s definitely.

After fifteen years, third outta four childhood mysteries of mine have been solved! :V

An old RPG game RuneSword 2 had some classical pieces as combat music, and I played that game intensely so they were stuck in my head, but this week I managed to find out them all, the last bits being parts of Mahler's 'Titan' symphony.

This intense feeling of satisfaction makes me happy :))
