Woah woah woah. Our own artificers can do it for free?

It's not hard to plop an enchanted jewel on top of a stick and call it an 'artifact'. It's what the H2's artificers did back then in 820's :P

You summon the dwarves to come and debate whether they can make something better out of the old jewel.

Few days later, the dwarven artificers, smelly and clad in dirty cloaks, arrive at your throne room, eyeing the large chunk of obsidian resting on your lap.

"We have heard your call and here we are, Queen of Luathbas. We feel the magic of the Kudh emanating from the stone, and therefore-"

"Kudh?" The dwarves nod wisely.

"Kudh it is, a god of the evil ones, the ones spawned from the same tribe; Fomorians, goblins, orcs and the giants, whom Kudh split in the ancient millenia when deserts of the west were forests and hills of the east were mountains. Back to the idea of yours, we will work on the stone, but first we must drive the magic of Kudh from it, so it is not filled with power of death and bloodthirst, then we can infuse it with our own magics that can work miracles." One of the other artificers walks forward too.

"And we can shape it into a mace or split the orb into several smaller pieces which could then be fashioned into a robe or garment. Still, we demand the usual payment of artifact crafting, else we shall not work for you." You decide to...

A) Ask the dwarves to fashion it into a handy scepter filled with wondrous powers.
B) Let the dwarves shatter the obsidian and enchant a robe or some other dress with it.
C) Dismiss the dwarves and ask your artificers to re-forge Murder Time instead.

You send a letter in which you praise his cooperative stance and give him a place of meeting where the boy will be exchanged for the jewel.

889 AD, Late Summer

Quote

The healers are now sure - your daughter Aife did not get pregnant during her tryst(s?) with Radius.

Few days later the men sent to escort Radius to the border return with a small chest, inside of which was the big black jewel as promised by the Governor.

889 AD, Few hours later

You look as the old, bearded man paces around the table, appraising and touching and turning the jewel around, humming thoughtfully.

"You're checking it out for a long time now." The advisor glances at you.

"Because I can't shake the feeling that I saw this thing somewhere already." He stops and pats his beard. "During Houlandin II's reign, maybe?"

"But that was over fifty years ago." You blink. "How old are you aga-"

"Ah yes! I know, my Queen, it's the head of the Murder Time!" The advisor then briefs you on the short history of the weapon before it was lost to the Lametanians.

"Is it still useable?" You ask the Advisor who turns the jewel around few times.

"Well it's surely a little abused, there's small chippings here and there... we could always put it on top of a golden scepter and make it a Crown Jewel of Luathbas, to go along with the knife and the necklace, my Queen." He hums. "We could ask the dwarves to make a magical item out of it, if the magic's still innit."

A) "The dwarves are costly to employ so let's make this obsidian chunk into a scepter!"
B) "Get me the dwarves at once because we clearly need another artifact weapon!"
C) "Hmm, we will stuff it into the Treasury for a while and sell it if needed."

Thanks ZBridges.

You order Aife to a chamber in one of the towers and instruct the maids and servants to not let her out unless needed for the next hundred days. Then you also tell the guards to care for the valuable prisoner and finally you write a letter to his father, sending a trusted messenger with it.

889 AD, Midsummer

The reply from Lametania arrives!

In the letter the Governor is profoundly 'thankful' that you have found Radius who happened to have disappeared on one of his dangerous and unapproved trips for adventure and love (as he had several by now). The Governor is asking that you return the troublesome youth to him and he will reward your efforts with the Black Stone, a large black gemstone that they have recently obtained during a seizure of one of corrupt official's estate.

A) Well fine, he offered a valuable jewel for valuable family member. It's a decent deal.
B) Ha ha! So he cares for Radius. Let's try and squeeze something more from the Governor!

You have the dungeon guards question the Damdamian while you drill Aife for questions.

You can't help but mangle her up a bit with thirty minutes of talk on responsibility and reputation and matters of politics.

"And where did you even meet him?"

"Uh, outside the palace, in the capital city, when I was visiting some busier parts of the bazaar, in disguise..."

"And?"

"Well I got tired and sat on a bench and he approached me and then we talked and he told stories he is traveling various distant lands... then we agreed to meet again."

"And?"

"And then we met and he said he fell in love with me at first sight... I offered to meet him in the undeground... and he was very impulsive, and promised me everything..."

"And? Do you want to say he was all riled up and assaulted you in a fit of passion?" Aife's face became a beet root at this point.

"It wasn't an assault..."

"So he whispered some cute things and you fell for that."

Beet root is now red lantern. But before you can do anything, the captain of the guard knocks on the door and enters the study to announce something, per usual happenings of fiction drama:

"My Queen, important piece of information has been obtained from the captive! Lancus is his street name, in reality he just admitted to be Radius Culnamus, son of Fardus Culnamus, the current governor of Lametania!"

Not only Aife had sex with a random boy, she had sex with son of the Governor of the land that was and is Luathbas one of worst enemies.

The study chamber produced a lovely echo of your palms hitting your face. You have to decide what to do with those two now.

As for Aife...

A) Have her sent into temple service for life.
B) Lock her in the tower for few months.
C) Do nothing, clearly she is just a horny young girl.

As for the son of Lametanian Governor...

A) Have him imprisoned for ten years for seizing one of most valuable flowers of Luathbas.
B) Send a letter to his father, ransoming Radius for a hefty price and some concessions.
C) Send a letter to his father demanding a formal apology for his son's behavior.
D) Have him escorted under guard south and threaten to castrate him if he ever winds up on your side of the border again.

You send a letter to the northern governors to put a bounty on apprehension, or if not possible, killing of these youths.

888 AD, Midwinter

One and half month later this little 'uprising' of sorts is squashed after having grown to ninety people; a much larger of more zealous Pantheonists, interested in the bounty, set up an ambush in a forest and all ninety Singularists were killed

Also, a report from the gold mines has arrived; despite the site being in a slight chaos, the supply of gold to the Treasury remained steady this year, and there was no deficit. The manager believes that tin and iron smelting should begin no later than by the end of the next year.

You daughter Aife had a terrible first bleeding, one that worried your healers for a while. After a thorough rest, however, and some medicinal herbs to help strengthen her womb and blood, she got better.

You do tell the healers to keep an eye on her occassionaly.

888 AD, End of the Year

Guess what kinda time it is?

Happiness: 6
Population: 5
Economy: 5
Army: 7

Time to rejoice apparently.

889 AD, Summer

A young Damdamian by name Lancus is now a guest of the royal dungeon.

It all happened in very late Spring when Aife begun to sneak out of the castle using the sewers. At first the maids let her get away with it (every youth needs some adventure after all) but one night, the Palatial Priest himself caught her in one of rooms with this Lancus in rather compromising position.

Aife is currently locked in her tower while the court is murmuring and spreading rumors rapidly about the young Luathbasian Princess having fun around with foreign vagabonds. You decide to...

A) Let this matter go its own course, but keep the Damdamian youth in the dungeon for the time being.
B) Drill Aife and Lancus for questions, the latter with force if need be.
C) Have Lancus castrated and Aife locked in a temple for five years for ruining her (and yours) reputation.

You decide to throw a feast and tournament.

888 AD, Autumn

The day has come!

Many peasants could watch the olde Knighte spar in melee and jousting just as a military parade of most accomplished commanders was moving through the capital. Thenm there was a great feast and lots of drinking - all this sponsored by the Crown's money.

888 AD, Winter

Alas, not all is well in Luathbas, as religious clashing erupted in the north once more. This time however it is a bit more serious; several young noblemen, filled with ideas of 'change' and 'revolution' has swore to preach Singularism with a pointy end of the sword to 'uproot the old, corrupt, chaotic system of Pantheonism'. That was two weeks ago; now their movement is about forty people who alike abandoned their cozy lifestyle and they're making all kind of mess near the borders with Tven and Dahnia, harassing the old believers and trying to incite (and failing to) the covert Singularists to get out on the streets and rattle some sabers.

A) Send a letter to them specifically asking for them to abandon their highwayman-like ways.
B) Do nothing except have the Spymaster send agents to keep an eye on the young nobles.
C) Order the governors of the northern cities to put up a bounty on the hot-blooded noblemen.
D) Get the Army moving to trample these savage youth and teach them a painful lesson.

Your Army deals with the orcish raiders swiftly and decisively, chasing the remainder into the hills and hunting them down even there.

All these recent victories make the people proud - and happier.

888 AD, Summer

In fact, there has been a group petition from some city governors in the south. They wish for the Crown to sponsor a large military festival, where reenactments of old battles and a tournament of the traditional Luathbas Knights could be held!

A) Fine, let's have a big melee and feast!
B) Naw, they just had festivals recently!

Grumbling, you decide that the Gubta can get away with this, for now.

888 AD, Spring

"Orcs?"

"Indeed, my Queen!" The tired messenger drops to one knee. "A force of about half a thousand of them spilled from the hills that were once cleansed, and raided the souther borderlands of Luathbas, pillaging and taking captives."

A) Send the Army to go hunting for orcs in the orcish hills.
B) Buy services of some mercenaries who will go and perform some genocide.
C) Do nothing but wait, maybe they won't be coming back?
