You ask them if they're interested in taking the runestone in exchange for nullification of the debt for the Sky Iron Knife.

They debate amongst themselves for a long while, to the point of some arguing, before there is silence. The leader turns back to you.

"While the runemasters would surely prefer coin for their services, I'm sure they will be content with having such a rare elven artifact instead. It is a deal."

The dwarves quickly produce an appendix to the contract for Sky Iron Knife in two copies, one which they take with themselves along with the chests of money.

Later, the forester that guided the dwarves to the stone mentions that he saw them excavate the stone and then roll it across the ground as easily as if it was a wooden barrel.

You ask them if it is possible to exchange the stone for the services of their runemasters.

"Alas, your predecessor, Houlandin III, has bought their services for a fifty years postponement of payment. We do not create new artifacts for those who didn't pay for previous one yet." You decide to...

A) Dismiss the whole debacle and keep the stone for yourself.
B) Seek the simplest solution: use the elven runestone to pay the Sky Iron Knife debt.
C) Pay them in runestone and money to pay off Houlandin III's debt AND get a new artifact.

You try to persuade them first to tell you things about the stone and what they want to do with it.

But instead of usual tingle and melodic voice, you happen to get a coughing fit at the usual time the necklace would provide you with powers of persuasion.

The leader of the dwarves chuckles at this.

"Well, since you tried to ask nicely, thinking our own artifact could be used against us, I will tell you something: we will use the stone's magics to fuel the magics of our runemasters and artificers. You do not need to know the details, Queen Elena." After your voice returns to normal, you decide to...

A) Refuse to sell the stone to the dwarves.
B) Pawn the stone for those chests of money they've brought.
C) Ask if perhaps you could buy services of their runemasters in exchange for the elven stone.

You decide to ask the dwarves to come and-

Oh look, one day and a group of them is at your gate!

The smelly, bearded men in cloaks arrive at your throne room. Their beards are dyed blue and their cloaks are made of fur that seems black but gets a dark blue shine under light.

Their leader steps forward and smiles.

"We have heard that you have an elven runic stone nearby! We offer to take it away and remove all elven magic that might have leaked from it, and we shall even pay you few chests worth of gold!" With the last word, the rest of the group moved forward and deposited four chests in front of the leader, opening them - they're full of gold and silver coins!

A) Pawn the stone to the dwarves.
B) Refuse to sell the stone.
C) Try to get some answers first.

You decide to keep the Army in Luathbas for now.

885 AD, Autumn

As projected, the harvests are meager this autumn. People are already preparing for the worst during the incoming winter.

885 AD, Winter

The royal forester reports sightining an unusual 'construction' in the forests within near the palace.

It looks like a stone column, carved with tools, and with strange, squiggly inscriptions on one of its sides. The stone was there for decades now but only now the forester noticed that writing.

Servants murmur about it and when questioned, one of the old maids mentions that Queen Aolineniya, wife of Houlandin II, often visited that particular area of the forest.

A) Clearly it must be some elven runestone. A rare object, that... Let's unearth it and sell it as a curiosity!
B) Leave it alone, let's not disturb things belonging to races skilled in magickery.
C) Let's send for dwarves, maybe they know something about elven stonework? Maybe they would like to have it?

You order the Army to go into the fighting.

The fresh and veteran soldiers of Luathbas combine their strength and experience, march and meet the Chunug in a week, dealing a blow to the invading horde! There are five thousand casualties total but the remaining Chunug flee back to their home territory, somewhat startled.

There was a court meeting after the victory.

"We have a pretext to strike and conquer their territory." Says one nobleman.

"With what, an army that lost another chunk of it just days ago?" Counters another.

"Besides, we can't really trust the Damdamians promise from before." Others nod and mumble.

But decision is yours to make! And you decide to...

A) Keep the Army within Luathbas borders.
B) Send it to conquer the lands of Chunug!

There will be no more suffering in Luathbas as your agents go to buy foodstuffs from otehr countries.

Unfortunately, the amounts procured were rather small, as your neighbours themselves had little to offer. People will have to suffer this year, and that's bad.

A band of Chunug horsemen brought the head of your emissary to one of the governors of the south-eastern cities, decrying publicly your lies and attempts at confusion. They say that their leaders have decided to punish you!

Next day you receive an urgent report that about five thousand Chunug, wielding axes and swords, rushed on their short horses into Luathbas, spilling over the land, torching and killing as they go!

Emergency council is convened and everyone looks up to you to see what you shall do about this.

A) Declare emergency mobilization and send the Army to battle the Chunug.
B) Send a peace envoy and apologies (and a tribute) to the Chunug in hopes of averting further conflict.
C) Tell the Army to vanquish the Chunug, but without emergency draftees this time.
