You order the men to remain stationed in Western Luathbas, and with the order goes food, ammunition, medicine, clothes and all the soldiers need in everyday life.

884 AD, Mid-Autumn

The advisor approaches you as you read through the pile of morale reports from across the country.

"My Queen, the dwarves wish to talk with you." You blink and then move to the throne room, where the dwarves are waiting. You sit down on the throne and their leader, clad in purples and greens, steps forward, bowing slightly.

"Queen of Luathbas, we come here to offer our money to Treasury of nation of yours. We hear of many problems that haunt Luathbas and therefore, to see that our vital and most profitable trade route to East is maintained, we're willing to give you money."

"How much money?" The dwarf smiles.

"Double of what your gold mines produce coin per usual year." The courtiers gathered in throne room murmur.

"Or even four times that." He adds dramatically after a moment, causing only more murmuring.

"You want something in exchange, don't you, dwarf?" The leader of the dwarves nods.

"Indeed I do. For the double amount of money we wish for our merchants to receive a guarantee that for next fifty years not a single coin of profits will be taxed from them by your Treasury. The two-year small tax of course doesn't count, as such coppers can be easily afforded. For four times amount of money, we wish for Army of Luathbas to permamently guard and garrison our workshops and trading posts, and these we have twenty five total in Luathbas. A thousand humans would be required."

"Our Army is busy and small at the moment. Buy yourself some mercenaries instead." You quickly dismiss that one offer - in other times, it could be even called profitable.

As for the tax exempt guarantee however...

A) "I was in fact contemplating to tax you, so better go home and prepare your finances instead."
B) "So be it. An big influx of money for a tax exempt. We have a deal, dwarf."

You decide not to tax the dwarves. The Treasurer sniffs and paces away, unhappy.

884 AD, Summer

The western front is calm for now.

884 AD, Midsummer

The Kiwi are crushing the Ramo with help of the Huljan. However the reports from Kiwi soldiers mention no elves met or spotted in Huljan delegations or horsemen sent on few joint operations.

884 AD, Autumn

The commanders send a letter full of their worries.

They mention that their supplies are again going low, that some men - especially the draftees - are grumbling, and that the Adila are being worryingly quiet lately. Some believe that the Adila are preparing a massive, horryfying offensive, while others think that Adila is exhausted and this is prime opportunity to grab some more land. The commanders, unable to reach compromise, have thus decided to ask you for guidance - and more supplies, of course.

As for the strategy...

A) Continue defending the West.
B) Onwards, for more landgrab!

As for the supplies...

A) Squeeze money outta Treasury to procure supplies for the campaigning Army!
B) Send them your good wishes and blessings instead, it might help.

Game Thread is here!

Welcome!

In this pre-defined Era of Diesel scenario you have a chance to become one of the leading Powers during the mid-1910s, when all hell broke loose... but will it go as in the books or shall you turn your land into greatest Empire?

All of the Era of Diesel rules can be found here!

What's different about this pre-defined scenario?

1. You do not get to create your Nation; instead, you gotta pick one of the 8 pre-defined Nations and their corresponding Leaders:
United Kingdom (King George V)
Third French Republic (President Raymond Poincaré)
German Empire (Emperor Wilhelm II)
Russian Empire (Tsar Nicholas II)
Austro-Hungarian Empire (Emperor Franz Joseph)
Ottoman Empire (Sultan Mehmed V)
Kingdom of Italy (King Victor Emmanuel III)
Kingdom of Spain (King Alfonso XIII)
2. Everyone starts with certain amount of Armies and Navies and certain Technologies; few nations start with Techs others do not have.
3. Win condition is a simple one: Have the most Territories by the end of 1919 (Turn 60), and only YOU decide how much conquering, backstabbing and scheming will be done before that!

Check the Nation Dispositions and European Map spoilers for details on Nations and to see your Nation's starting Provinces!

You send the orders to the governor of the city.

Within a week you receive reports that this had rather adverse effects; the people in the north, already miffed up by recent overtaxation and the mobilization, only became angrier when the traditional and numerous Pantheonists had to be brought to equality like the minority of Singularists.

There are also rumors that the clergy was grumbling only a note quieter than the citizenry.

884 AD, Mid-Spring

Few more skirmishes occured in the west against the Adila and the Inkhani, as some captives confirmed their tribe of origin.

Meanwhile in the Kingdom of Kiwis, forces of King Beren managed to recuperate their losses and are now pushing into Ramo territory. And speaking of this northwestern nomadic tribe, they seem to be in rather perilous situation as travelers report that Huljan have already taken half their lands.

884 AD, Late Spring

"The dwarves?" You look at the Treasurer, who's smiling softly.

"Why yes. I have recently finished gathering up reports and statistics on their trade route between far West and the Gubta, and it seems that on the handling fees along they're managing lots of profits. Then with addition of actual sells of items and crafts to Gubta, their earnings are vast... whilst we get none of these riches, the biennial tax hardly amounting to anything. I propose, my dear Queen, that we tax the Dwarves additionally. Say, a special trade permit fee or perhaps value acquisition tax?"

A) "That is sure a nice idea, and the money will help us with our problems. Let's squeeze some coin outta them dwarves!"
B) "The dwarves are the last ones we want to rile up in the times when we got a lot of people riled up against us. Leave'em alone."
