You tell the governor to allow for payments or labor for the caught sectarians.

879 AD, Midsummer

An urgent report comes from Adilan lands! The Army was met by a 8000 strong force of horse archers and light cavalry that have dealt a terrible defeat to the Army, sending it eastwards in three groups. The Army is camping near the city of Gzim while a request for reinforcements came from the commanders in the west.

A) Announce an emergency mobilization and send workless peasants and youth to the war.
B) Reply that you can't do naught to help the Army at the moment.

You write some letters to the Army officers who are in the region to note them of the change of ownership.

879 AD, Late Spring

The Army continues rolling across Adilan flatlands. Minor skirmishes and minor casualties only.

879 AD, Summer

A recent report from the north of Luathbas brings light upon Pantheonist schism possibility; apparently, despite the delegalization by previous rulers, the Sect of One actually still continues to linger in the city of Einvad!

While a congregation of forty isn't anything big of note, of note are its members; one is Lady Idorina, your relative by Lech, brother of Houlandin II. The other is the son of governor of Einvad - the same governor who caught the previous group of heretics over ten years ago.

As he wasn't able to force himself into action against own son, it was the city's Urban Priest who composed the report and sent it to you, with a demand that this Sect shall be further prosecuted.

A) Throw all the sectarians into dungeon - no exceptions.
B) Throw all Oneists into dungeon - except Lady Axa, as you won't imprison your own family!
C) Let all of them go if they can pay a fine or work their sentence with manual labor.

You tell the envoy that you have no money to spare this time. The diplomat leaves unhappy.

879 AD, Mid-Spring

Your Army reports that they've met with the nomadic Adila horsemen in a battle that saw over four thousand casualties total. The Army is currently camping as its has to regroup and recuperate after this brutal battle.

You also receive a letter from your vassal, Beren:

'King Feodh

Your Army recently captured from Adila a city called Gzim. It has been, for centuries, one of the most loyal Kiwi settlements and therefore I ask you that you return it under my governance, alongside its four attached villages, as those people are Kiwis more than anyone else in the Khanate. Do note that I'm not asking you to turn over all your conquests - only the city of Gzim and its villages. I'm sure that you will be able to liberate even more settlements in the future, so surely one city and four hamlets can't be that much of a request?

Your loyal vassal
King Beren of Kiwi'

A) Ehhh sure, he can have those.
B) My war, my spoils, shoo!

You agree to both. The envoy bows his head and salutes you.

"May Damed provide you with children, health and prosperity, King Feodh." He then leaves and you return to the throne room, and the emissary from Kingdom of Dahnia is brought inside.

"Greetings, King Feodh! I come from Queen Sela with a request for resources and money. Kingdom of Dahnia, unlike Luathbas, does not have gold mines nor it has vibrant network of trade routes, therefore to continue employing mercenaries and agents, Queen Sela requires monetary assistance. Otherwise Kingdom of Dahnia will have no choice but ask Luathbas Army and your agents to conduct operations against the distant elven menace!" After a while, you decide to...

A) Lend your aunt another load of money.
B) Tell the envoy that your coffers are similarily rather empty and you have to dismiss him with no money.
C) Stop sending money and instead send your officers and agents to Dahnia to take control over anti-elven operations.

You reluctantly agree to speak with the man in private.

You two meet in a small study. You sit behind the desk as the envoy stares at you for a while.

"Thank you. The Senate brings its greetings to you. I am here to inform you that the warmongerer Wrexus Magnibus shall be attempting to invade your lands within two years, as he is gathering support from the officers and officials in the Provice of Lametania."

You blink several times in confusion, and the envoy grins.

"It would take too long to explain why and what for the Senate is sharing this crucial information with you. But the northern reaches of the Republic are underdeveloped and remote, and we have little real interest in these parts. Unfortunately recently, during the popular plebiscite, the people have elected Wrexus Magnibus, a hero of the Clavinian War, as a governor of Lametania. And he, after reading too many history books and hearing too many stories from veterans of Lametanian Conquest, have duly decided to bring glory upon himself - and the Republic - by vanquishing our apparent unbroken arch-nemesis from the north: Kingdom of Luathbas. The Senate will permit Wrexus to wage this war, during which Wrexus Magnibus will overextend his supply lines while riding forward along his soldiers, presumably to attack and conquer your capital at earliest opportunity."

"That's a rather suicidal tactic, now that we know and can prepare for the attack..."

"Exactly." The envoy nods. "Wrexus Magnibus shall die a heroic death, the people will mourn their hero, perhaps a monument will be built to honor his name, and the Senate will have an opportunity to replace him with someone else than the old glory hound, so that both we and your little kingdom can remain at relative calm. What a beneficial coincidence for us all it would be, don't you agree?"

You open your mouth to thank the envoy for this 'warning', but he raises his left hand.

"I'm not exactly done, King Feodh. The Senate unfortunately cannot ignore anymore the pleas of the traveling worshippers of Damed and those that live in Lametania - and there are many in the south. They wish to fulfill their religious needs. The Senate therefore is asking that you do not make any unnecessary and hostile moves if, one day, some governor of yours or another discovers that some Damedian pilgrims are gathering for prayer in some private households or are constructing unregistered shrines inside them."

"Is that all?"

"Yes, it is. Therefore, we have your full cooperation in the matters of Wrexus Magnibus' glorified retirement and a pledge to not prosecute any members of the Cult in your country, is that right?"

You deeply ponder your options, and, for a brief moment, the bizarre and complex internal politics of the Republic...

A) Tell the envoy that you will see that Wrexus Magnibus dies valiantly on the field of battle and you won't retaliate against the Republic, but that you cannot promise anything in matters of the Cult, as Pantheonists are surely going to take action if the King of Luathbas won't.
B) Tell the envoy that you agree to solve both issues - Wrexus Magnibus shall die and no Damedian worshipper will be harmed if found within Luathbas borders.
C) Tell the envoy that you can assure safety of Damedian cultists but if the Senate allows Wrexus Magnibus to strike Luathbas, you and your Army shall retaliate in full force!
D) Tell the envoy that he might leave and warn his masters, as you won't be allowing foreign armies or foreign cults to wreck havoc in your countryside!

"I don't trust you." The envoy nods in approval.

"Nobody would trust such a demand! While I applaud your caution, the information I bear needs privacy more than publicity."

A) "I already said it; here or nowhere."
B) "Alright, we will talk alone."

The envoy from Damdamian Senate is allowed the priviledge of being first in the throne room.

The short, balding man wears a simple white tunic and black pants, with purple cape slung over his right shoulder. He approaches your throne and raises his hand in a salute.

"Greetings, King Feodh of Luathbas! I bring important message from the Senate. Therefore I ask we speak in private, and alone." The courtiers murmur and some give the envoy accusatory glares.

A) "Fine, I shall allow this as a token of trust. Let's move to one of the side rooms."
B) "What for, are you afraid of my people? Speak here, or don't speak at all, Damdamian."

You compose a letter in which you politely ask for better treatment of the Luathbas merchants, or things might go awry, and nobody wants that, after all.

879, Mid-Spring

The Marshal have compiled a report on the doings of the Army in the flatlands of the Adila; eighteen settlements have been captured; sixteen villages and two small towns that once belonged to the Kiwi and their numerous southern neighbours. Besides few skirmishes with about thousand or so Adila horse archers, the Army had a suprisingly easy time in the west.

The next morning, the guards report that there are two emissaries waiting for an audience with you; one from Kingdom of Dahnia, and the other from Republic of Damdamia, claiming having been sent by Damdamian Senate itself.

A) An important guest like that cannot wait! Let's speak to the Damdamian envoy first.
B) Family over foreigners - your aunt's diplomat shall get an audience first.

You order the taxes to be lowered to the usual amounts.

879 AD, Spring

A delegation of merchants arrive at your Palace for an audience.

During it, they complain that the trade with the Gubta has been more and more tedious and is bringing less and less profits for them. The Luathbas Treasury of course gets its cut, but recently it's more the merchants paying for the priviledge and less the cut from the profits.

"We ask you, our liege, that you do something about this as the Gubta seem to be content with raising tax and base prices every year." You decide to...

A) Compensate the merchants lavishly so they shush and go away.
B) Write a polite letter to the Emperor of Gubta, asking him to reconsider his policies towards Luathbas.
C) Write an angry letter to the Emperor of Gubta, demanding a fair treatment of your merchants.
D) Dismiss the merchants, as there's nothing you can really do.

You send a few courtiers on an errand.

They come back with news: Ystan the Quillmaster is busy collecting scrolls and information about the earlier parts of Luathbas history, and said that he should complete his work before your son becomes a man.

878 AD, Late Winter

Your Army has defeated a 2000 strong force of Adila horse archers, having trapped them in a valley where they couldn't maneuver well. This was a lucky skirmish however as unfortunately the westlands are just as flat as most of Augas is - or even flatter. The victorious soldiers are now marching through the grasslands, liberating small settlements and wrecking various nomadic camps as they go.

There is also information from the governor who reported sightings of orcs - and he confirms that those were, indeed, sightings. No keep, settlement or even a war camp was found; just few remote campsites. The governor's men say they saw maybe fifty orcs total since they began scouring the hills and killed about half of that number in various incidents.

878 AD, End of the Year

Once again you review the Scrolls of Kingdom Status brought by the Advisor to your chambers:

Happiness: 5
Population: 4
Economy: 3
Army: 7

The advisor coughs a little.

"The Treasurer is happy to announce that Luathbas is recovering from the dire economical situation, but he advises that we keep the taxes raised for one more year."

A) "No, the peasants suffered enough for now. It's time to lower the taxes!"
B) "Indeed, some more money would be nice to have. Keep the taxes higher for one more year."

You decide to stay in the capital; the Army can do without your help.

878 AD, Midwinter

The Army deploys westwards and passes the border into the lands claimed by the Adila horsemen.

Few days later you overhear a heated conversation between two of your courtiers, and ask them what's this argument about.

"About the historian you paid, my liege! It's been years since he left to begin work on his book, and yet he is not done? Clearly he tried to swindle you out of your money and is on the other side of Gubta Empire by now!" His companion laughs.

"Clearly, you do not understand how hard it is to compose resources and actually write a history book of this magnitude. My liege, if you ask me, it will be a new decade before you even hear of the book. The Quillmaster needs time."

A) "Definitely, this smells fishy. I shall have someone go and ask Ystan the Quillmaster about his work."
B) "Surely, it will be a long time. We shouldn't bother the Quillmaster... yet."
