You send a messenger to the Dagovids dwelling in southeastern Luathbas.

The messenger comes back with a detailed tale from the Dagovid elder: all signs and descriptions he heard from your messenger make it clear that it's the Trolls, that dwelled once east of Dagovid tribe and caused tragedy to Hurthlings in past centuries, have now visited the Luathbas countryside, in search for fresh meat of course.

The elder says that the best way to get rid of Trolls is to kill a whole bunch and then burn their bodies as the trolls have a bad habit of regenerating from grevious wounds during cloudy, dark, moonless nights.

A) Send the Army to begin a thorough Troll-removal campaign in the northeast.
B) Continue looking for a Wizard.

You have some scouts look around for a Wizard.

But knowing form history of Luathbas that you read about in your books, Wizards are hard to find and a search isn't guaranteed to get one. Maybe it would be wise to, in the meanwhile, seek answers...

A) ...from chieftain of Dagovids?
B) ...amongst Hurthling people?
C) ...in Kingdom of Dahnia?

You order the Army to send some volunteers for a borderland patrol duty. Few hundred men end up patrolling the villages.

In a week of time the Army's presence brings osme results; they've managed to catch a beast red-handed as it tried to slip into a cattle farm. The hairy, grotesque beast had numerous appendages, huge jaws and, as subsequent battle with it shown, quite appetite for flesh, animal or human alike. It has been killed and some acidic substance poured out of its corpse, dissolving it partially.

The scholars did a perusal through the beastiary scrolls in the library but nothing of the kind came up in written history.

A) It came from northeast, so surely Hurthlings might know something! Time to send some men and ask the little people some questions.
B) Kingdom of Dahnia lies in the north, mayhaps they had already encountered such beasts previously? Let's ask them.
C) Dagovid tribe lived once in north and east; their hunters surely must've seen such beasts, let's ask their current chieftain about this.
D) Surely, it must be some evil power bringing up monstrosities within out borders! Mayhaps it is time to seek help of a Wizard?

You decide to encourage the priest to build a shrine dedicated to the founder of the dynasty.

873 AD, End of the Year

The advisor brings you the Scrolls of Kingdom Status.

Happiness: 6
Population: 5
Economy: 7
Army: 6

You can't help but grin at the number beside the economy rating; it wasn't that high since the reign of your eldest brother and father.

874 AD, Spring

The dwarves have come back from Gubta.

They immediately bow in gratitude as they approach your throne.

"O, King of Luathbas. Many times our folk have crafted items for rulers of this land and we always took treasures as payment, but you've given us much more than that! Not only we have finally discovered the land from where the blue gemstones come, we even secured a relationship with its rulers and can now obtain the jewels on regular basis. Praised be your beard! We might even be able to craft items of power not seen since the times of Vabok." The bow once again and leave in hurry, very happy and satisfied about the trip it seems.

874 AD, Mid-Spring

The spymaster meets you in a corridor.

"The investigation is finished, my liege."

"And?"

"Several rumors provided us with clues. After weeks of gathering information, we first obtained confession of Cylla's confidante maiden and the found Lady Cylla's diary. I have to tell you that Lady Cylla has been suffering from depression since your brother's untimely death and the most likely conclusion is that she commited suicide by drowning. I have allowed myself to recall the excess agents to other work." He bows and disappears into the shadows.

874 AD, Late Spring

Your wife have given birth to a boy! She named him 'Ceodwell', after a Luathbas hero of old. If he reaches proper age and won't decide otherwise, he will one day become Feodh II, King of Luathbas!

874 AD, Summer

Some terrible news come from northeast of Luathbas!

Recently the farmers have been finding their cattle mutilated; many corpses have been partially devoured and several barns had clear signs of being broken into. And considering that the attacks happened on rather large area, it must a group rather than an individual. Some village elders therefore turned to their King to seek help.

A) Send a small part of the Army to patrol the northeastern borderlands.
B) Hire some adventurers or trappers or huntsmen to seek the elusive assailants.
C) Tell the elders that they should advise their farmers to lock the barns properly.

You demand that the Spymaster posts more of his agents amongst your family, and you send for the four nieces to be brought to your palace.

873 AD, Winter

A guard detail brings a wagon of treasures from Dahnia, alongside with a letter from your aunt for the money which she is now giving back as promised.

873 AD, Midwinter

Governor of Tech, the birthplace of your honorable ancestor, Houlandin the First, have sent you a letter.

Apparently, he and the local leading priest are arguing what to spend the savings on. The priest wishes to build a shrine, dedicated to memory of the first Houlandin, while the governor would rather see it spent amongst craftsmen and smithies as industry of the town has been losing money recently. They've therefore decided to ask you to decide for them.

A) Aww yiss a shrine for muh great-grandfather, let's do it!
B) Some generosity never hurts, tell them that.
C) Refuse to get involved; it's a local, rather than, national issue. Did they have to bother you in first place?

You decide that it will be best to send adventurers and ruthless mercenaries to cause trouble in elven lands. The emissary nods.

"My Queen Sela thought the same. She will be overjoyed to know that you have decided to continue against the elves. They must pay." He bows his head and then leaves.

873 AD, Autumn

Quote
5to6

After extremely uneventful summer, news come from the goldmines. Apparently, the miners struck a new, large vein! The profits from refining and selling the gold will be double this year!

873 AD, Mid-Autumn

"And how's the children?"

"Shaken, of course, and afraid." You look once again into the scroll containing the dire news; your sister-in-law, Cylla, disappeared one evening and the next morning her body was found floating in the moat of her castle.

You have the Spymaster summoned.

"My liege, as far as I know, my agents were at the castle and none reported seeing any elves. They're investigating other possibilities as we speak."

"So you think it was suicide?" The advisor asks quietly.

"Maybe. I do not know yet."

"Sire, we need to decide what to do about this situation... and what to do with Cylla's children."

As for the situation...

A) Increase the amount of agents in estates and castles of all your family members.
B) Just an investigation will do.

As for little Sela, Ciri, Beadda and Una...

A) Send them to your aunt Morgan, who is currently living in Augas.
B) Send them to their grandmother, Queen Sela of Dahnia.
C) Have them brought to your palace so they may live amongst your family.

You thank them for the gifts but say that their kind is not welcome in Luathbas as differences in laws and customs would only bring strife to both tribes.

The lizards hiss loudly amongst themselves, and the smallest one then steps forward.

"We go and never return. Beasts can find elsewhere." The smallest then turns on its heels and leaves, all of the taller ones following suit, one dragging the body of the slain lizardman.

The guards then take care of the nobleman's body and a letter is sent to his family that he 'died in honorable duel'.

*KZZZT*

TWO DAYS EARLIER

As the grieving, angry nobleman leaves to claim a guest chamber for himself, the guards bring in the emissary from Queen Sela of Dahnia.

"Again, let me tell that I bring good news from your aunt, King Feodh."

"And what would those news be?"

"A trio of adventurers have managed to come back and tell us tales of the elven lands. Apparently, there is a mountain chain far to the north; then one should follow its southern edge westwards and a bit south, to vast, rock-covered plains, and across them, there is a large forest of red pines. That marks the border of the elven land, and the adventurers said that all elves they've met were either scouts or hunters. Not a single family or settlement was seen, so they must live further away. The adventurers say that they have travelled for at least hundred days before they met any the elves."

A) Splendid! Let's prepare our Army to march into the northern/western/whatever wilds and crush some pointy-eared heads!!
B) That is much further than we've anticipated. Let's hire some adventurers to go and cause chaos amongst the elves.
C) Bah! Our Army cannot hope to succeed alone in such faraway lands. We've got to abandon the plans of war against the elves.
D) If maps and scrolls are to believed, the Khanate stretches up north somewhat, behind the mountains where rainbow lizards live. Maybe they have a guide or two for hire?

Nothing is found inside the cell.

@S34N1C and @Demonic Spoon:

The duo enters a tunnel.

A door soon blocks the path. A small panel on the wall to the left has numerous buttons with strange symbols on it, and there are patterns of similar symbols on the door. Surely this must be some kind of a simple intellect puzzle.

@Criptfeind and @roseheart:

The two enter the tunnel.

Just as it begins to turn northwards, a door blocks the path. There is a small amount of tiny levers on the wall, while a glass panel shows some weights suspended on ropes inside the door. This surely must be a simple intellect puzzle of some sort!

@flazeo25:

Raven enters the corridor alone.

Soon his path is blocked by a door. There are some colored blocks that can be pushed about on the floor and there is streaks of colors painted on the door. It's definitely a simple intellect puzzle!

@DolosusDoleus and @Felissan:

The two move into another room. A chamber of some space but no interesting features.

Two paths: one south, from whence they came, and north.
