You offer them that you shall retain Khosra, which switched sides already anyways, and take five more years of tribute from Parsians.

The Parsians from the entourage chat with the emissary who considers the options quietly. He rubs his beard before looking up at you.

"You are wise and generous, King of Luathbas." He mutters slowly through his teeth. "But my King is equally wise, and proud. He won't pay five years - but a singular gift of tribute, that I could persuade him to send you."

A) Fine, Khosra and one-time tribute it is, we're having gains anyways.
B) Clearly the Parsians don't want peace - LET'S PREPARE FOR BATTLE!

"He shall ask for negotiations. This war is taking too long! I desire peace." Some of your commanders grumble about this. They actually make some loud calls that you only wasted time, resources and lives of brave men!

Quote

The word spreads from commanders to officers to enlisted men, and many do not take your mood swings lightly. There is a riot in the camp! Your loyal soldiers and guards attempt to bring down hammer of discipline upon the rioters.

Hundreds die before the riot is quelled. The most unhappy ones dead or missing, only the loyalists remain - and those nod at your plan to get the Parsians to negotiations' table.

Next afternoon, the envoy returns with entourage of about twenty Parsians, including one dressed in traditional garb of a Parsian courtier.

"I am Mib Shashan, and I am here to apparently seek peace with you, King of Luathbas." He dismounts and you lead him to your tent, where you two sit on a large rug. You decide to offer end of hostilities, in return for...

A) Luathbas retaining control of Khosra and surrounding farmlands.
B) Luathbas taking Khosra as part of Augas, plus reestablishment of tribute - for 5 years.
C) Luathbas taking Khosra as part of Augas, plus reestablishment of tribute - for 15 years.
D) Luathbas becoming senior of Parsia, protecting the broken country from outside treats in return for loyalty and obedience.

You declare that an envoy shall be sent to the Parsians.

Your commanders grumble and murmur amongst themselves, till one asks the obvious:

"But sire, what shall the envoy ask for? What it could ask for in the first place??"

A) "He shall demand that the Parsian commander settles the incoming battle in duel to death against me!"
B) "He shall demand that the Sorceress meets me in a fair duel to the death!"
C) "He shall quietly offer the Sorceress our riches if she decides to abandon her current employers."
D) "He shall ask for peace negotiations with the Parsians to stop this bloody war!"
E) "He shall offer the Parsians loads of Luathbas gold if they betray their homeland!"

You send a rider to reclaim the Sky Iron Knife from the sarcophagus of your father.

867 AD, Autumn

He returns a week later, visibly exhausted, but he pulls a length of cloth from beneath his tunic and unwraps it. It is the Sky Iron Knife, the one forged by dwarves for your father from the pieces of rock that fell from the sky and landed in the royal forest.

"My liege! I also bring report from the Augas; the other half of the Army managed to crush the invading Parsians from the north in a big battle, but few skirmishes later they had to retreat a little southwards, and currently they engage in various skirmishes and raids against the Parsians who claim the entrance of the valley and surrounding mountain paths." He takes off his hat.

"I also bring bad news from the palace, sire, as your youngest daughter, the little Lynda, perished of a fever." You let out a sigh as you have hard time to be really moved by this - after all, you didn't even see the child.

Next morning, one of the sneakier scouts returns from the east.

"My liege! Parsians are on the move. They're heading this way, most of them true Parsian spearmen and archers, but there is also the entourage of the Cortana, with her riding her vile dog alongside the Parsian commander!"

"What are their numbers?" One of your own commanders asks the obvious question.

"There were many, but I swear to all Gods that there couldn't be than a hundred score of them." Another mumbles calculations quietly before speaking up:

"We have advantage in numbers, sire, if the scout is right; about three of us to one Parsian."

"You forget their greatest advantage," says another, "the Sorceress in their midst." There's a short argument amongst the commanders, before you decide to...

A) March the Army into the field and attack aggressively!
B) Prepare a well-defended position to wear them down.
C) Send an envoy to the Parsians.

You send a force of men to secure the hills for you!

Quote

Your soldiers have men with soldiers of Wao who were sent to secure the hills. The battle was fierce but ultimately your soldiers were routed!

Few days later an envoy from Lord Wao arrives, saying that he will not give his land to Juewang savages that easily!

A) Send more soldiers to try again. You just gotta have some precious metals!
B) Send an apologetic letter to Lord Wao in which you promise to not attack his lands again.

The Army waits while a single man is sent forward to nearest Parsian settlement.

He returns after less than a week.

"My liege!" He drops to one knee. "I have snuck into the city of Gharab and indeed, I saw a dark-skinned beauty of skimpy clothing, riding on a six-legged red dog with a throng of winged birdmen and trio of three-eyed giant snakes at her disposal! From a random passerby I heard that her name is Cortana Tigereye, and her services were bought by the Parsian King with all of the money he had left after buying the loyalties of few mountain tribes that now fight against us." The Army commanders mumble before a council, and many are actually scared of having to face a Sorceress in a war...

A) Send an agent to negotiate the buying of services of the Sorceress, promising more gold than Parsian King did.
B) Call-off the offensive and retreat to Augas province, lest half of Luathbas Army ends being turned to frogs or something.
C) Lead the Army via some detour to avoid meeting this Cortana Tigereye.
D) Send a lone messenger post-haste to Luathbas capital, to unearth the Sky Iron Knife from your father's sarcophagus, as you you shall wield the knife in a fight against the Sorceress!

You send an envoy to Lord Wao with demand that the hills separating your two lands become yours.

Quote

The envoy is barely let out without being executed and reports that your demand infuriated Lord Wao beyond limit.

The envoy also reports that he saw and heard some messengers and army groups moving southwards toward the hills on his way back. You ponder this for a while, and afterwards you decide to...

A) Quietly send miners to begin the copper mining there.
B) Give up on the copper-bearing hills to avoid potential war.
C) Send your soldiers to secure the hills and area around them.

It is decided; the horsemen will rush back home while you and footsoldiers shall march into Parsia!

For the next week, Luathbasian forces move eastwards and then a little bit northwards, breaking through two attempts by the mountain dwellers to defeat them; alas, two groups half thousand each can't do much against almost ten thousand. Between then and now, few minor villages surrender, some of their population fleeing into mountains.

Two days later, one of the scouts returns... being fused into his horse and his arms being tentacles! He has a seizure and babbles something unintelligible before dying.

"Sire! The Parsians must be employing some supernatural beings!" Says one of the commanders.

"Nonsense! No human can do such a thing. It's more like the scout touched some cursed artifact and was punished for his folly!"

"Nay, I say." Another speaks up. "What if they hired a Sorceress? We should turn back while we still can!" The others calm them down and then there's a council.

A) March forward and look out for ambushes or traps set by the Parsians..
B) Send scouts forward to seek some strange places or ruins that could turn the unfortunate one in such a way..
C) The Army waits while an agent searches the next city for a Sorceress or some other magical person.

"I will consider that."
