You agree to marry Fi, daughter of King Beipan. The emissary returns home with great news.

1 Mai Year, Mid-Spring

You marry Fi in a great ceremony, with the grand statue of Emerald Dragon watching over you.

1 Mai Year, Summer

The governor of the city of Dungzhou arrives and asks for audience.

"Oh great king, may your rule be blessed and enlightened! I come forth to ask you for help, as my city suffers from drought and the coffers of my palace cannot buy enough foodstuffs for the rice farmers! Please, buy us some cabbages so we might not starve!"

A) Buy foodstuffs for Dungzhou from abroad to keep people fed (and happy).
B) You're tight on money; Dungzhou will have to go on without Kingdom's support this year.

1 Year of Oh Mai (1410 ACE*)

You are Oh Mai, and you are known for your wise choices. You have captured the Heavenly Seal, received blessings of Earth Mother, and then have slain the Evil King and his Warrior-Sons. The Jade Throne of the Kingdom of Juewang is yours!

The royal scholar presents you with the Bamboos of Kingdom Status:

Quote
2, 1, 0, 0

Happiness: 7*
Population: 5
Economy: 4
Army: 4

You have no idea what these numbers mean except maybe the first as the joy of the hard-working rice farmers is evident even in the inner chambers of the spacious palace. Time to get to work!

1 Mai Year, Spring

Various emissaries of the neighbouring city-states arrive!

Emissaries of state of Chozo in the east, Zuzu in the north, Chang in the northwest and Wai in the south bring fine gifts as means of recognition of your ascension and right to rule.

Emissary of the state of Beipan, which lies in the southwest, delivers more than just gifts:

"King Juewang! My lord, King Beipan, has many daughters, and he wishes to offer the hand of his youngest and prettiest, Fi, as your wife and future Queen of Juewang!"

A) Sure! Might as well get into baby-making right away!
B) Naw, I don't want any foreign grills in my court!

You order the Army to take on defensive position and prepare for the onslaught!

Quote
3*

Unfortunately the bulk of Parsian army tries for the good ol' zerg rush and pierces the first line! Then your soldiers discover that the scrawny, bearded slinger are slingin' hatchets before charging into melee with axes drawn high.

Quote
5*

Fortunately the core of your Army, comprised of crossbowmen, launches a deadly volley of bolts that strikes down many of the bearded men, who fly in fear at the sight of strange horizontally-held bows.

With a large part of the Parsians fleeing or dead, your commanders order the Army into counter-attack, leaving the safety of rocks and hilltops!

Quote
5*

It charges into the Parsians, cutting down any unfortunate ones that lag behind the fleeing comrades. The battle is won! Your Army have suffered about thousand of casualties but the Parsians might've lost as many as five times that number.

Your commanders ask you about their next goal; the city of Khosra is just ahead, and it proved a terrible nut to crack in the past, so some would prefer to bypass it, but others want to capture it as it holds some strategic value. Finally, you order that the Army shall...

A) Bypass Khosra and march into Parsian heartlands to solve this debacle once and for all!
B) Besiege the city then capture it, to avenge the fallen garrison and secure the supply lines.
C) Abandon the direct approach and use the valley north of Augas to sneak into Parsian northlands.

You agree to the split, and then you hold your sword high and declare:

"TO BATTLE!!"

Congratulations! Llewyn embarks on another military campaign!

Late Spring, 867 AD

Three weeks later, after trudging through the muddy eastlands towards Augas, you reach the borderlands and the scouts report that a large contingent of Parsians is on their way to meet with you. The forces are even numerically, but it seems you have more horsemen and archers than them, say the scouts.

A) Time to meet them head-on and crush them with vicious tactics and better prepared forces!
B) Get on some hills and then we can laugh as they wash against our spears and arrows!

You decide to not tax the peasants higher for another year, and you decide to send the Parsian King a warning letter.

867 AD, Spring

Your aunt (and mother-in-law) Sela sends you a letter in which she details the entry of Hurthlings into Dahnian lands, having been scared of settling in Luathbas due to plague that ended the lives of the majority of refugees from the Hurthling Valley, wherever that is.

There are also some better news: the gold mines in the northwest finally were drained enough to warrant re-start of the mining operations! Your Treasury should be seeing first wagon-loads of freshly mined gold by the end of this year.

867 AD, Mid-Spring

Parsian forces attacked Augas!

Quote
3

One of border outposts have fallen to Parsians and their scrawny allies, and the garrison at Khosra has been cut off and there are no news about it (the Governor made a side note believing that they're dead no matter what's gonna happen).

The Governor reports that while Cataphracts were nowhere to be seen, the Parsian armies are largely made of bearded axemen and slingers, with some riding stout horses. They seem to be the same kind of mountain-dwellers that assisted Parsia in the previous conflict, ableit in smaller numbers.

The Governor of course pleads you to send the Army and repel the invasion. The Marshal appears few days later in your throne room.

"My liege! The Army is ready, although I recommend that we leave half of it in the mainland Luathbas." You inquire why.

"Sire, as it stands we have two large nations bordering us in the south and west right now, and I wary to leave the heartlands unguarded due to that. Furthermore, sire, shall you be joining the Army to inspire it and lead it against the treacherous Parsians?"

As for splitting the Army...

A) Nay! We will take our Army in full, smash the Parsians within weeks and then return home for autumn harvests!
B) Yes, that sounds reasonable; half the numbers shall remain to protect Luathbas from any sudden attacks.

As for your participation...

A) Why does he keep asking? TO BATTLE!!
B) Let's stay at the palace this time.

You send the King of Parsia a letter of reminder about the tribute he agreed to pay for peace.

866 AD, End of the Year

You once again can read through Scrolls of Kingdom Status.

Happiness: 6
Population: 6
Economy: 3
Army: 7

"The festivals were a success this year, my liege. But the economy, with lack of tribute plus army maintenance and the gold mines still in disrepair, is reaching low numbers. We could extend the higher taxes for another year, but that will of course ire the populace." He opens up a letter.

"Also, Governor of Augas reports that the Parsians have still not sent this year's tribute and there was no reply of any kind to your reminder." It's time to decide!

As for the taxes...

A) Yes, keep'em higher for another year.
B) Naw, we're done squeezing coin outta peasants.

As for the Parsian lag...

A) Drop the issue this year and move on!
B) Write a threatening letter, detailing the consequences of continuing insubordination.
C) Send another reminder to the King of Parsia.

You tell her that you will write Romuald a letter. Lady Morgan seems quite pleased.

You write Romuald a letter that inquires into his relationship with Agrenna, and then you address his lack of heirs and then you pep-talk him into spending more time to give the loyal and caring wife the child (or few) that she would love to have.

In his reply he says that he will try, if only to appease you and Agrenna's wishes.

866 AD, Midwinter

The Governor of Augas sends a letter; apparently, the Parsians haven't yet sent a single coin of tribute they agreed to pay your mother during the peace negotiations.

A) Send the Parsian King a letter in which you remind him of the tribute.
B) Send the Parsian King a letter in which you warn him of consequences of not paying the tribute.
C) Reply to the Governor that we can allow one year of leniency toward Parsians, but only this time.

You order the Spymaster to install his agents amongst your immediate family and your aunts and uncles to make sure no one else gets murdered by, apparently, elven assassins.

866 AD, Winter

Your aunt Morgan comes about with a surprise visit, as she rarely ventures outside her big library of books at her husband's castle of Feodwennlongwynnylch.

"Your brother Romuald still has no children." She points out after the evening meal.

"So?"

"Well, as the eldest brother and the King, you should ensure that your family has proper succession line secured. And your wife happens to birth only girls."

"..."

"I'm just saying, and no I haven't spoke with Agrenna, that you should urge Romuald to get in bed with Agrenna as the girl seems to be loyal to him despite his unwillingness to sleep with her." You consider the option and...

A) Shall do nothing about family affairs that do not really relate to you.
B) Send Romuald a letter in which you encourage him to 'get busy' with his wife.

You tell the Marshal that this once-in-a-lifetime tradition won't destabilize the Army, which pleases Archpriest, and he is pleased even more when you agree to sponsor the festivals.

As assumed, few hundred (655 men exactly) decided to abandon the Army during the chance that was Festival of Caor. And speaking of the festival, everyone enjoyed the fine drinks and foodstuffs and performances sponsored by you!

866 AD, Autumn

The Spymaster brings news: one of his agents, thanks to the peace we have with Khanate and the Koi, ventured far to the west, and even met some dwarves. He showed them the blade and they told him that this kind of bladeswork is the work of their hatred enemies, the Elves. These dwarves, unfortunately, weren't able to tell him where does their country lie.

You thank the Spymaster for his report and then convene with the advisor; alas, without knowing the location of Elven lands, not to mention knowing the reasons behind their attacks, there's not much you can do.

A) Now we can use the Spymaster's agents to increase security around members of Houlandine royal family.
B) Issue an edict which makes all elves fugitives and any caught in Luathbas is to be thrown into dungeon!
C) -

You decide to spend some of the Crown's savings to get foodstuffs for the people who will be hungry very soon.

Quote
4

The initial procurement plan falls short of its goal, but no one should suffer more than few days of fasting this year!

866 AD, Midsummer

Congratulations! Your wife gave birth to yet another daughter. She named her Beadda, after a high-profile queen from the last century.

866 AD, Late Summer

And speaking of previous centuries, the once-per-century Festival of Caor is drawing near! Caor was a semi-legendary King of Luathbas who slain a dragon, tricked a witch and then defeated a half-ogre usurper and his seven sons, but in achieving that angered many of the Gods by stealing their artifacts, and only his wife Nylla protected him from their wrath.

The peasants emulate this by going on hunts or doing many hard chores and then their wives 'save' them with meals or by drawing them from military career. While nobody had anything against that during the old timey drafts and fodder tactics, nowadays...

"My liege, I protest. Our army has its own laws and requirements now, and we can't allow the commoners to be excluded from the mandatory military service just because of some traditional festival!" The Marshal is pushed aside by the Archpriest.

"Sire, this is a festival that comes up once per century to commemorate an ancient hero that is praised by nobles and peasants alike. Surely you can forgive those who will choose to leave the Army on behest of their wives."

"National security is more important than cultural traditions!" The Archpriest glares at the Marshal, and then speaks again.

"My liege, it is also customary for the Crown to donate a large amount of money for the preparations of the market reenactments of the Caor's Deeds, and the rituals and feasts surrounding that event. May I beseech you to sponsor this event?" After a while, you reach a decision...

About the military exemptions...

A) We need the Army to maintain its cohesion. Any men leaving it during Festival of Caor are to be treated as deserters.
B) Few hundred or so of men leaving the Army once per hundred years? Please, we survived worse, we can survive that as well!

About the Crown donations for the festival...

A) Sure, festival sponsorship it is.
B) Nay, the Cult can manage on its own.
