//EDIT: Poll time!

You order some search parties to go northeast and search for Hurthling migrant groups.

After a week, they confirm that a group of seven hundred or more, along with some livestock, are loitering in the hills just northeast of Luathbas. The horsemen sent to look for them actually made contact and invited the Hurthlings to Luathbas, but this group was rather cautious and only said they will 'consider' the generous offer.

866 AD, Mid-Spring

The Spymaster have compiled and gave you some reports to read; the agents have also determined that the metalwork of the weapons used to kill your aunt and attempt to kill you weren't Parsian nor Khanate in origin.

866 AD, Summer

Once again, thunderstorms and drought ravage Luathbas, although this time it seems they were weaker in their terrifying power. Still, the governors of the affected cities ask the Crown to sponsor procurement of some foodstuffs from abroad.

A) Nay, we can get through with what we have.
B) Aye, let's feed the empty mouths!

The perceptive among you might notice a strange expression in Liz's eyes as she responds to Ash.
>has eyes closed

She's blushing, so... finds killing people erotic or something? Hurmm.

She's murderer at heart :vc

C, B, B and B it is!

You write up a lots of scrolls this afternoon. You send the Spymaster's agents on the trips around the region to gather clue, you sned money only to the miners (and good luck wishes to the workers at Grand Temple) and then also decide to raise taxes higher for a year.

866 AD, Spring

Hurthlings!

Apparently, a group of farmers working on the old fields once tended to by the Hurthlings (before plague done them in), have saw a trio of Hurthlings traveling at the outskirts. They've approached them and indeed could confirm those were Hurthlings, but the little people fled with suprising speed.

After you receive this report, you decide to...

A) Have some horsemen ride towards northwest in hopes of finding another group of Hurthling migrants, maybe!
B) Do nothing; if Hurthlings are trying to migrate like their predecessors did, all you need is to wait.

You accept the offer of submission.

The Army enters the city next day. Of course, there is some small amount of pillaging, burning and raping but you can't control every soldier after all. Most of the city and its citizenry is left intact and its governor signs the declaration of submission the very next evening. He is then replaced by one of Luathbas noblemen and you conclude the campaign as nothing more can be done.

Congratulations! Llewyn successfully completed his military campaign.

The campaign saw little gain and you couldn't prove yourself either tactically nor strategically nor even in the realm of diplomacy, as surrender of Kwanak was basically given to you on silver plate.

Few days after you embark on a journey to Luathbas, a messenger from Adila brings his congratulatory letter. You are also given a document signed by him and all his sons; in this document, the Khanate promises to treat Luathbas as an equal rather than a weak and inferior target for pillaging and slave raids.

The sweetness of victory is somewhat marred by news on personal front; your sister Igrid gave birth to a boy she called Ainach, but few days later she succumbed to complications of the birth.

865 AD, Midwinter

The festivals hosted this year by the Crown made peasants happier.

The Parsians continue to pay their annual monetary tribute on time.

865 AD, End of the Year

The advisor brings the Scrolls of Kingdom Status to your bedroom.

Happiness: 5
Population: 6
Economy: 4
Army: 7

"The trade advisor had a fit of panic when he was tallying the numbers in recent days, as he thought that the expenses this year actually drove us into debt; the procurement of foodstuffs and sponsoring of Grand Temple being the main culprits behind the expenses." He stretches the collar of his robe a little bit.

"Unfortunately I have some relatively bad news to tell you, sire." From the left sleeve, he pulls out a folded piece of paper. "The investigation into death of your aunt Elsa have been finished and the arrowhead of the projectile that have slain it had the same distinct edge pattern as the sword of the assailant who tried to kill you. Furthermore, our agents and agents of your aunt's husband have determined that this style does not belong to neither Kiwis nor Damdamian weaponsmiths. The spymaster wishes to know if you want to send agents to find more clues about the origin of the weapons, and, hopefully, the assassins and their employer." He pulls out another scroll from the other sleeve and rolls it open.

"The construction of Grand Temple has hit a major obstacle; a catastrophic error in the calculations of the architects caused part of its columnade to collapse and smash some of already put down brickwork for the walls. The manager of the project thus asks for more workers and money if he is to have a chance to finish the construction on the projected date of 868." You raise your hand to speak... but the advisor does the same.

"Apologies, sire, I'm not done yet." He pulls out another scroll from his robes. One day you will have to investigate if its the fabled Robe of Holding that he is wearing for work.

"The work on the draining of the goldmines is also facing difficulties. The miners unfortunately stumbled upon another layer of aquifer and whilst the subsequent flooding was minimal, this only slows down the progress and forces the mine's manager to contemplate the feasibility of the works. He is asking if you wish to continue, and if yes, are you willing to donate extra money to hasten the works." He puts down the scroll on the mountain of other scrolls that piled up on your desk, and you stare at them with a grimace.

"May I add that this might mean we will be low on cash next year. Of course, we can raise the tax on the peasantry, which haven't happened in Luathbas for a long time, my liege..."

As for the murder spree in your family...

A) Order the Spymaster to put his agents in the guard details of your family members to better protect them.
B) Thank the Spymaster for his offer, but do nothing.
C) Order the Spymaster to send his agents all across the known world if that's what you need to do to solve this mystery!

As for the Grand Temple project...

A) Donate some money from Treasury to keep it on track.
B) Allow for the delay, as it's not entirely super-important for you.

As for the gold mining woes...

A) Ask the manager to close the mining operations as it seems to be only a drain on money rather than its source.
B) Tell the manager that he is to continue his work and you shall indeed donate money for supplies and to pay workers' wages!
C) Tell the manage that he and his men can take their time, as long as they get it done eventually.

And finally, the taxes...

A) Nah, we will be fine without higher taxes.
B) Let's squeeze some coin outta peasants, just in case.

//Remember, no split votes; and this time you have whoopin' four choices to make!

You thank the messenger and then march your Army to the city of Kwanak.

As your soldiers have city in sights, one of the soldiers left behind rides up to you on a horse, saluting.

"My liege! The governor of the city of Kwanak wishes to surrender to you and have the citizens become your subjects rather than fall under influence of the Khanate or the Koi. He even offers to personally ask you if you so desire."

A) Accept the offer of submission.
B) Have him indeed come personally and beg!
C) Send a messenger to Adila to inform him of this.

You have the Army slowly advance toward the camping horsemen, in plain sight.

Quote

Unfortunately that only gives them time to prepare. They won't go down without a fight!

Quote
4*

They even manage to get the first attack, wounding hundreds and killing a few, but your men easily repel their vigorous charge. Then, the crossbowmen strike them in droves and your horsemen ride down those who try to flee.

You allow the soldiers a day of rest and continue into the Kiwi territory.

Alas, four days later you get a messenger of the Khanate; the boy proudly proclaims that Adila, son of Chun, have personally slain the last Kiwi Emperor in combat, enslaved his females and murdered his male heirs. He also shall soon send you the edict in which he shall reward you and your brave soldiers for their role in putting pressure on the eastern parts of the Kiwi.

The Army commanders convene with you, as this campaign was short and basically fruitless. You decide to...

A) Conclude the campaign now and return home.
B) Stay in the Kiwi lands and do some pillaging.
C) Return to the city of Kwanak and try to capture it.

A small part of the Army is left to continue besieging the city while you and the rest march on!

Four days later you get a chance to see some action! Scouts report an 'army' of about a thousand Kiwis, most of them horsemen, across the hills. They seem to be fresh troopers and the scouts mention a lot of supply wagons in their camp also.

A) Advance slowly and scare them into submission.
B) Keep the distance and move on.
C) Must be recruits with fresh supplies! CHARGE!

Wurm Online?

We had some players switch to it from Heaven & Hearth back in the days, I think.

EDIT: After re-reading, it won't be Wurm Online :P

The siege begins.

865 AD, Winter

Three weeks pass, the fortified city holds, and no Kiwi army is coming, say the scouts. According to one report, Kiwis are getting crushed in the west by the Khanate hordes, and already half their forces has been cut down on the way to Kiwi capital.

A) Continue on with the siege.
B) Leave a small detachment to keep an eye on the city, and march forward into Kiwi territory!

Your order the Army to march forth towards nearest larger city of the leftover Kiwis.

865 AD, Late Autumn

In two weeks march, your Army approaches the city of Kwanak, which is a fortified settlement with central keep separated from the city walls; the style of architecture not really present in Luathbas.

The scouts sent north and south report that there is no Kiwi presence outside the city except some sneaky scouts of their own.

A) Surround the city and begin the lengthy siege.
B) Construct some siege equipment and ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!

You unsheathe your sword and hold it aloft to show what you think about this proposal.

Congratulations! Llewyn has begun his first military campaign!

Few days later your Army is marching through the western borderlands towards the Kiwis. One evening, just a day away from the first Kiwi settlements and outposts, the commanders convene with you.

"Sire, we're eleven thousand men strong, with a unit of crossbow handlers and some cavalry support. We cannot decide on the tactic we will employ, especially that we don't know how long we're supposed to be a thorn in Kiwis' side."

A) Declare that Army will be split into raiding parties to ravage Kiwi settlements, raid their merchants, burn down farmlands, and so on.
B) Declare that Army shall march from one city to another, besieging and capturing them one by one.
C) Declare that Army will be split into four parts and each part shall besiege a small fortified city or outpost, forcing the Kiwis to split their forces too.

You agree to both provisions. Shoran bows respectfully and then leaves.

865 AD, Late Autumn

Your wife gave birth to another girl! She named this one 'Ciri', after the wife of the first Houlandin. You have a feeling there's a pattern.

"The Army is ready to march out, my liege!" Says the Marshal, saluting you after approaching the throne.

"And may I ask a question, sir. You haven't yet led a military campaign and therefore I wish to ask if you are willing to lead us into battle? That would raise our morale and hone your tactical skill!"

A) WOOO, WAR PARTIES!
B) Nah, I would rather not.

You declare loud and clear that you shall aid Adila in his conquest, as martial peoples should keep together rather than waste time and blood fighting each other. The young man smiles.

"Then I shall cut to the point and tell you what Adila hopes you can achieve this year; he wishes that Luathbas Army shall invade the Kiwi Empire, or what's left of it, from the east, causing disturbance and woe along the borderlands no later than before the first snowfall. He also wishes for some supplies and money to be sent to Koi, so that my father himself can prepare for his part in the offensive." He hands a scroll to one of your treasurers and he debates the numbers and items on it with other courtier. Then, the advisor walks up to you and whispers into your ear:

"We should be able to afford these expenses at the current time, my liege."

A) Order the Army to prepare to invade the Kiwis, but tell Shoran that you cannot spare resources now.
B) Tell Shoran that you're willing to send supplies but your Army needs time to ready itself, say, a year or so.
C) Tell Shoran that he can return to Adila as you will be sending Army and supplies westwards in matter of days!
D) Reject those demands as you believe that Luathbas isn't able to contribute to the conquests right now.

You thank him for his explanation and let him go. The Wizard bows wordlessly and leaves, never to be seen again.

865 AD, Autumn

Grave news come from the south; your aunt Elsa has been slain, shot by and arrow of unseen assailant during a trip through a forest with some of her courtiers. Her husband and advisors launched an investigation and will of course notify you the moment they learn anything!

865 AD, Mid-Autumn

Shoran, son of the Duke of Koi, part of the broken-down Kiwi Empire have arrived at your court.

"Greetings, King of Luathbas! Albeit the parent nation of mine and yours weren't on best standing thorough the last century or more, I'm bringing you an offer that you should consider a priviledge! Adila, son of Chun, the Master of Khanate, have heard of both the wealth of Luathbas and of its martial kings and successful army. Therefore, I was sent with a proposal. Join Adila's allies and help us crush the remnants of Kiwis and the pervidious alliance of petty kings in the west, and the Khanate will see to it that your merchants and citizens and houses and villages are spared from the nomadic raiders. You clearly see the benefits of the offer, am I not right?" You say that you...

A) Do agree with benefits of the offer and shall lend Adila a hand in his conquests.
B) Have to refuse his offer, as it simply looks like a thinly-veiled threat.
C) Want to know if perhaps Adila would prefer Luathbas gold over Luathbas arms as an aid.
D) See a buffon that needs to learn his place. To the dungeon with him!
