You declare that you shall sponsor the constructio nof a new and splendorous Grand Temple of the Pantheon as the one in the capital city is, to be honest, rather old and rather stuffy inside.

Both low-ranking clergy and populace cheer at your decision, and the higher-ups in the Pantheon go silent. The ceremony of sanctifiying the ground upon which the Temple will be built gathers half a city as spectators and both the royal family and the archpriest take part in it.

A man in long grey robe and conical hat wishes to see you, say the guards. You let the Wizard in.

"I have heard that this kingdom has a need of my services." You explain to the Wizard what is happening; the terrible droughts and severe thunderstorms. He strokes his beard.

"Ah yes, I felt it in me bones. Your family had dealings with a Sorceress, and she drew upon the powers of the air and water and earth of this land. This caused it to build up in chaotic energies which entered the state of flux now affect the weather. This is soon going to pass."

"How long?" You ask the obvious question.

"Maybe after this summer, maybe in few years."

A) Thank him for explanation and let him go; you don't need to work yourself up to fix something that will get fixed on its own, right?
B) Ask him to fix the weather.

You declare that the Crown shall procure foodstuffs for the peoples again, while a search for a Wizard shall begin.

Once again, there was trouble to feed everyone. Some might suffer from the thinner rations, but the impact of the famine will be minimal - but people will grumble, you can bet on it.

No Wizard was found this time.

One of royal couriers have met, by chance, a Wizard in one of the inns in Augas province. Upon query the Wizard in question agreed to pay a visit to your palace.

Meanwhile, the western patriarchs of the Pantheon have been spouting bad rhetorics about you - according to them, the "King of Luathbas consorts with elves, wizards and things of foreign and wicked magickery, and what heed he pays to the ancient and traditional Gods and Goddesses of the Pantheon? Almost none! Instead of sacrificing to appease the God of Rain, he calls for a traveling stranger of unknown reputation! Is that the King we want?"

Unfortunately for you, the religion holds tight on the hearts of the peasants who often turn to the priests and religion for help, advice and comfort in their everyday struggles...

A) Threaten the clergy with harsh consequences if they will continue to undermine your rule with their almost rebellious speeches!
B) Sponsor the construction of a new and splendorous Grand Temple that will replace the old one currently standing in the capital city.
C) Do nothing, as you're not going to meddle with religion again.
D) Sacrifice lavishly upon altars of all of the Gods to calm them down for now.

You send letters to the governors of the northern cities, warning them to keep an eye on the heretics who would like to see Luathbas' religion disassembled.

865 AD, Summer

For another year in a row, terrible drought and thunderstorms that follow ravage the farmlands of Luathbas! People begin to worry and grumble about this whole thing, not to mention that for another year foodstuffs need to be procured to feed the populace.

As for the foodstuffs...

A) Do nothing, we can survive on what we have.
B) Spend lavishly on procuring extra foodstuffs from neighbouring countries.
C) Get some food bought via Augas.

As for the continuous droughts and thunderstorms...

A) Search for a Wizard, surely this must be a curse of some sort.
B) Donate to the gods of weather and farming and so on to appease them.
C) Do nothing, it's just a damn coincidence.

You arrange a small guard to sneak out and ride with Queen Aolineniya to Luathbas' southeastern borders.

Quote

They return after ten days, and say they saw Queen Aolineniya leave the Kingdom on foot after parting with them.

865 AD, Mid-Spring

After another round of baby-making, you fall asleep besides your dearest wife. But in the middle of the night, you feel a cold breeze, so you turn toward the window... just in time to see someone move toward the bed!

Quote

Springing from dreamland instantly by rush of blood, you grab a nearby sword and toss the bedsheet at the attacker, surprising him! He drops his blade and fumbles backwards as you leap from the bed.

Quote

Unfortunately, he manages to pull the bedsheet and see you charging. With speed and agility beyond any man you have seen, he reaches the window and as he jumps out, you briefly see his blond hair and... pointed ears!?

865 AD, Late Spring

"Like you requested, sire, we've been looking into the assassination attempt." The advisor begins the summary of the investigation.

"The weapon, does not match any shape nor style of our past or current enemies, so we believe that it is elven in origin. The Army agreed to help patrol the forest paths and less populated areas in search for any strange travelers that might be trying to come. They're concentrating their efforts on the northwest, from whence Lady Aolineniya once came from, seeking shelter in Luathbas."

Few days later, you receive a letter from the governor of the city of Einvad in the north. Apparently, his city guard managed to find and capture a gathering of twenty followers of the Sect of One, once delegalized by your father. He tossed them into the dungeon, of course, but felt like you should know.

A) A smart man, that governor. Thank him for his effort and send letters to other northern governors asking them to look out for these heretics.
B) Order him to investigate - and torture, if needed - these followers to see if it's just an isolated incident or maybe there's some underground movement growing in the northern Luathbas.

You decide to spend a part of the riches to entertain the peasants with festivals, bard performances and public feasts.

865 AD, Spring

Your grandmother, Lady Aolineniya, the runaway elven princess, has been freaking out at slightest scares for few days now. After an incident with pot of hot soup and a unfortunate, quietly-walking maid, you decide to candidly speak with her.

"It's that I feel that I have to go, Llewyn."

"What? Why?" Aolineniya, after all, was very comfortable living in the palace for last 40+ years.

"I don't know. I just feel, I have this feeling, dear, that I have to leave. My husband is long gone and you're doing well. You do not need me around, and it will be better that I do not linger."

A) Arrange a small guard detail for her and send her east and south, towards the distant and foreign kingdoms with whome the merchants of Augas deal with every so often.
B) Tell her that it is not possible; her advice has been invaluable and disappearance of 'Grandmother' would upset the populace. You shall strengthen the security in the palace, of course, to calm her down.
C) Decide that, if she feels she has to leave, she is free to do so. Arrange some provisions, plain clothes and gold for her secret departure during a cloudy night.

General Discussion / Re: The Dream Thread
« on: October 29, 2016, 02:41:58 am »
I dreamed through '3 episodes of Fire Emblem anime/game' tonight.

1: The basic premise of the whole thing was about helping a young prince/hero/choosen one boy to get somewhere. I was some nondescript soldier. We were ambushed at a small castle where there were teleporting thieves and a magic user with a Berserk staff (causes your unit to temporarily attack both friend and foe, whoever's closer). However I managed to pull off a Quadruple attack, which involved also an archer, the choosen one and some thief? girl to gang up on a General and deal 60 damage to him total. I made a 'screenshot' of that and sent it to Culise who was apparently watching/playing the anime/game with me??

2. This episode was some sort of flashback that showed why the choosen one didn't have better protectors; apparently the bishop who called him 'choosen one' asked him to meet him at something-name Island and then teleported there, leaving the boy alone. By the end of episode we were nearing some desert(?) city where there lived Crystal Guardians who could be hired as, well, guards.

3. Turns out that Crystal Guardians were in cahoots with the enemies and we had to battle a group of leveled Heroes, Snipers and Warriors and Brawlers (high amount of health, magical resistance and mighty punches), before absconding up a long stairway to the exit of Crystal Guardians' keep (their keep was some sort of ziggurat with hollowed-out inside). Then at top of the gate, a bunch of skeletal enemies teleported into the gatehouse, and their leader, clad in black cape, armor and helmet said that 'The Evil One' wants us dead (of course), and then we battled them as well, cuz the 'black knight' was sitting on the mechanism controlling the gate.

Shortly into fight with the skeletons, I woke up.
