You also send a letter to Velocis Raptius asking him to imprison the criminals-on-the-run.

860 AD, Mid-Autumn

The Marshal reports that he has stationed his forces at Khosra and have sent 1/3 of the Army back to Luathbas to prepare for the war with Kiwis, although he is greatly concerned about war on two fronts.

The very next morning, two people reach your Palace. First is a Kiwi diplomat, who wishes to have an audience with you. The other person is the Dagovid chieftain himself, who says that his need for audience is 'greater than some petty foreigner's'.

The advisor writes you an obvious query: 'which one you want to see first, my liege?'

A) The Dagovid chieftain.
B) The Kiwi diplomat.

Must've seen him on the streets then. Enjald turned his attention to the lady, but said nothing.

Aren't we separated by a whole ocean from the Kiwi Empire with the rest (N/S/E) being connected via land? :P

I don't remember ever mentioning any ocean, Tiruin.

* Haspen buys Tiruin some lecitin.

You finally reach the decision. It is the Kiwis, plotting with your own Tvadar, who were behind this! You write the advisor that Tvadar and his immediate family are to be branded criminals and thrown into dungeon (or allowed to commit suicide if they so wish), and that war declaration is to be sent to the Kiwis, vowing to destroy them for numerous attempts to assassinate people from Luathbas royal family in the last sixty years!

The advisor is appalled but of course fulfills your orders. A letter is sent to the Marshal informing him that part of the Army might be soon needed in western Luathbas.

A letter is also sent to your third son Llewyn, informing him that due to these circumstances he is now designated heir to Luathbas throne.

860 AD, Autumn

Tvadar, Igven and little Dagan have fled! When a unit of your guards approached their keep, there was a skirmish involved where Tvadar's loyal guards battled yours, and while your men finally began looking for your son and his family, they were nowhere to be found.

Later that same day someone apparently saw a trio of cloaked figures running away on gallopping horses southwards toward Damdamian Republic, but no one was able to catch them.

A) Send a letter to Velocis Raptius, governor of Lametamia, asking him to imprison and/or execute Tvadar, his wife and his son, if they wound up on the Republic soil.
B) -
C) Clearly this means that it was not only Tvadar and Kiwis, but also Damdamians who tried to kill you! Declare war on them as well, they won't get away that easily!!

I will let you guys vote a bit longer on this important issue.

I also decided to make a map of Luathbas-centered world, well at least from what I remember because I'm not into sifting through 166 pages to grab bits of lore :P

Hou3 is completely deaf and will never hear a thing in his life again v:

Halved means the usual bonus is +2 and here it was only +1 :v

You agree that a statue in your honor should be built.

860 AD, Late Summer

Your agents bring in their findings. The assassin was hired by someone outside Luathbas but they have covered their tracks very well and few more assassins were hired to get rid of people involved in the affair. This must be some powerful or wealthy (or both) person or nation to have pulled this off!

Logic would help here but your paranoid tendencies kick in instead...

A) Clearly! Your son Tvadar allied with Kiwis to usurp your throne!! Brand Tvadar and his family as criminals and declare war on Kiwi Empire at once!!
B) At last! My dear cousin Sela have conspired with the Damdamians to get rid of me, the thorn in their asses for so long!! Send assassins to slay Sela and declare war against the Republic!
C) No no, you see, it is Parsia and Gubta who secretly plotted against me all this time, and now tried to deal a lethal blow to Luathbas to weaken it before conquering!! Begin killing off Parsian populace and break off ties with the scheming Gubtas!!

You push the advisors away, equip a fancy cape and then a helmet (to protect you from possible huntsmen-assassins) and then ride southwards!

Few days later you arrive at the wasteland that is the farms that were recently destroyed by the beast. The ground looks like someone vomited some purpleish ash all over it, and the partial corpses of men and livestock can be visible amongst trampled homesteads and sheds.

Then the beast stands on top of the hill, and then notices you! It produces a roar that hurts your ears, and then charges downwards!

The monstrous horse kicks you off your mount and then crushes its skull with its black hooves. Then it turns to fight you as well!

Quote

You slash at its face before it gores you in the stomach and sends you flying. You end in some mud and the beast runs over you, crushing you further into the debris.

You barely manage to cling to live and decide to play dead.

...

...

When you wake up, it's afternoon, everything hurts you and you're still alive. Skulking like some sort of thief, you make your way towards-

ROOOOOOARRRRR!!

The beast re-appears! It charges you! You lift your dagger in one last attempt to slay the monster!

Quote

The beast gores you but you then swing your dagger into its eyesocket! It roars right into your face, rupturing your ear drums, and then you fall to the ground while the shrieking monster horse runs off.

You stare at the sky, wondering who set up you this damned horse.

It was surely the damned cook. He started with oversalted soup, and now with a monster horse...

Everything hurts....

But you're a Houlandin. You refuse to die by a horse.

After some rest, you stand up and shakily make your way toward the direction you believe the horse went. Just over the hill you find the beast collapsed on its side, your dagger stuck in its eyesocket. You approach the beast, pull off the knife and then stab the beast in the face and neck, before the beast stops moving.

You're Houlandin III. King of Luathbas. Nobody fucks up your Kingdom and then gets away with it.

Slowly you make your way to the nearest intact village, where peasants quickly rush to nurse their King to stability. Few days later you remember some palace servants and guards arriving to transport you to the palace.

860 AD, Midsummer

Unfortunately after nursing you back to health enough so that you can walk around, your hearing does not return and the healers believe that the damage is, sadly, permament.

Congratulations! Houlandin III receives Deaf negative trait!

Next day, a report comes from your Army; it has successfully defeated Parsians in few skirmishes but then has been badly mauled in a direct confrontation against a very large Parsian army. They returned to Khosra to regroup and prepare a better battleplan.

Shortly afterwards, the advisor arrives to convene with you. On paper, he writes that populace wishes to forever remember the 'King Who Have Slain A Beast', 'The Beastslayer King', 'The King That Refuses To Die', and therefore a large bronze statue would make a good impression on them. It will require a bit of funding however.

A) Naw, let's not spend money on such frivolties.
B) Sure, I earned it, so let's build one.

You decide to go and face the monster yourself!

The advisors are aghast.

"Please sire, just because you have a heir and grandson doesn't mean you should be now running off on deadly escapades!"

A) "Avast with ye, meak pen-pushers!"
B) "Fine, let's try something else..." (if you pick this option, scroll up and pick other option from previous list)

You order your agents to disperse around the Kingdom and search for clues in hopes to discover who truly sent the assassins.

860 AD, Summer

Terrible news came from the southwest! A small village has been assaulted by a giant flying horse! It has purple skin and exhales putrid air! It roars so loudly that insides of peoples ears rupture and bleed. Beware its mighty hooves!

Governors of the cities in the south plead you for asssistance to save the people from this monstrosity that have suddenly appeared out of the Celegwyn Forest.

A) Hire a group of 30+ level adventurers to deal with this beast.
B) Start searching for a wizard to deal with the monster.
C) Armed with your armor and dagger of fanciful creature slaying, you will kill it personally!!
D) Ask the Damdamians to kill it, after all their religion is about getting rid of non-humans!
E) Recall bulk of your Army from Parsia so it can slay this thing.

You order the emergency troops to be recalled home.

860 AD, Spring

The Marshal sends a report in which he confirms that he has released the youths and older men back home. He also reports that the mighty olifants, escorted by a thousand of Gubta soldiers, have arrived, with many siege engine parts and their operators arriving as well.

An emissary from the west, from the Kiwi Empire, have arrived at your court today.

"King of Luathbas, my master desires to procure soldiers and stockpiles of metals to protect the borders from ever-increasing nuisance that are the western Horse-spawn. This would go long way to erase our memories of how your kingdom have harbored dissidents and enemies of the royal family in the past."

Unfortunately, your Army is currently preoccupied in the east, therefore you tell the emissary that you have no one and nothing to spare for the Kiwis. He bows and leaves.

860 AD, Mid-Spring

The Army reports great progress at piercing through Parsian defenses, and they won several skirmishes, ableit half of the olifants has been killed already.

Unfortunately, few days later comes a report in which the Marshal writes that he had to retreat his army, as the city of Khosra have rebelled, killing most of the garrison. Luathbas horsemen also had to return to the main body of the Army after a badly-timed raid ended with a hundred of them mauled by a newest column of Parsian Cataphracts arriving at the battlefields.

The very next evening you take a walk about the palace garden, which is mostly used to grow vegetables and medicinal herbs for your staff. As the moon shines through the clouds, you notice that one of the towers in the back seems to be unmanned...

...and then you notice a glimmer of moonlight reflecting seemingly in the darkness- an assassin jumps you! You knew that it would happen sooner or later, so you quickly pull out your sword

Quote

Suprisingly, the assassin puts on quite a good fight, and you have to move away a step or two. Then he manages to catch you off-balance and his blade sinks into your stomach! You fall down, while the man runs for the wall and guards start to fill the gardens.

"Healer, healer!" They cry as you grumble at the pain, curse whoever did this to you, and then lose counsciousness.

Quote

You wake up by the next day, and the healers are happy to see you awake. The wound was a rather deep one but fortunately it managed to avoid the important parts.

860 AD, Late Spring

You amaze your healers with how fast your wound heals up, but some think the Sorceress just did her job well blessing you with good health.

After you return to your work, you receive the summary of the investigation of the assassination attempt. The advisor empties the throne room before that, though.

"Sire, the man who tried to kill you has been captured after he got tangled himself in some thornbushes in the nearby forest. He has been interrogated and tortured, and while he looked somewhat Parsian in origin, we have determined that he only tanned his skin or it was his natural coloration. This does not mean he couldn't be working for them. Furthermore, we have studied the blade and it turns out it has a design similar to the blades made by the Kiwis, according to our smiths." He clears his throat and wipes sweat from his head.

"The final finding is that one of the interrogating servants recognized the man as Ian, who has been servant of Igven, wife of your son Tvadar, for the last three years. When told this, and prompted to explain himself, the assassin did not spill the beans till he have perished." The advisor bows hastily.

"What shall we do about this, sire?"

A) Clearly the Parsians bought the man to try and throw Luathbas into disarray! Send a letter of insults to Parsian King, in which you also promise to have his sons killed and daughters humilitated.
B) The Kiwis have long history of trying to kill the King of Luathbas, and this was surely another of their attempts! Demand that Kiwis give you a compensation or there will be war!
C) Your own son definitely wanted to help you die so he could take over the throne much faster! Disown him and brand him and his family as traitors and criminals! They shall pay for this!
D) Do nothing overt; instead, have your agents collect information around the Kingdom. Maybe this is an attempt by some 4th faction to blame others for the attempt on your life!
