You order one of her personal maids interrogated.

Quote
6

Under threat of torture, she easily spills her beans: her Lady, Queen Raellia, has been meeting with her cousin Agwendyn every time you were away and she often writes letters addressed to him which are then sent to him via one of the squires or stableboys rather than royal couriers but she swears to all gods of the Pantheon that she does not know what the meetings are about or what they write to each other in those letters

Extremely suspicious, you let the maid go and tell her that she is not to talk about this with your wife. Or else.

You then brood in your study, and decide to...

A) Organize a trip to the southern cities that will take about two weeks but you will return, say, week earlier due to pressing concerns.
B) Publicly accuse your wife of adultery and demand that she explains herself.
C) Ask Raellia face-to-face, in private.

You have the advisor send money and materiel to the mines to hasten their restoration.

855 AD, Midwinter

Your wife gives birth to another child! It's a boy, whom she names 'Feodh'.

855 AD, Late Winter

You sip some wine while deep in thoughts during one afternoon when heavy snowstorm ravages the surroundings.

Feodh is a second child that was possibly conceived when you were away. Sure, you were on the trip to the Dark Forest for no longer than ten days, so this could be a pure coincidence, but first Halgan, now Feodh...

A) Get a stronger drink to wash the paranoia away.
B) Publicly accuse your wife of adultery and demand that she explains herself.
C) Have one of her personal maids interrogated.

You accept the trade offer and express hope that one day you can become fast friends. The fat man bows and speaks for a while, his translator doing his work:

"My master is very pleased by your words and shall at once go to work out details with your advisors, and after that we shall return to our homeland and tell the Emperor, blessed be his hallowed name, that we again have friends in the West." They promptly set out to work with your trade advisor.

855 AD, Winter

Terrible report comes from the gold mines; the workers digging out an extension of deeper tunnels have hit an underground aquifer and most of the tunnels were subsequently flooded. The manager of the mines estimates that it will take about two to four years, if not more to drain the mines and block the aquifer.

A) Write a letter in which you wish him good luck.
B) Send him resources and lots of money from Treasury so that he can hire more workers, get more equipment and restore the mines faster.

You have the Gubta emissary invited to the palace.

855 AD, Mid-Autumn

A gaudily clad man arrives, wearing silks and linen of pink, yellow, green and white color. There is also another man, younger and thinner than him, wearing only white linen.

Both bow before you and the fat man in fancy clothes begins to speak, while the other translates for you live.

"My master, Duran Amhal Kuskus Lotusjoos, brings you the warmest greetings from the Emperor, blessed be his hallowed name. We are here to present you with opportunity to renew trade with the Gubta Empire, as our Emperor, blessed be his hallowed name, is in dire need for the cheap yet abundant mineral resources that cam from your Kingdom in the days of his grandfather. Therefore, my Master is willing to go at once and speak to your advisors of trade and coinage so that a favorable trading agreement can be reached. My Master also says that the Emperor, blessed be his hallowed name, is hoping that this agreement would be first step to closer ties between our nations, so that once the barbarian Parsians stop yet another bout of in-fighting, we can easily repel their aggression toward our borders."

A) Agree to the trade agreement but adamantly refuse any further and closer ties between the two nations.
B) Reject the trade agreement and order that the emissary be escorted eastwards.
C) Agree to the trade agreement and express hope that indeed, later on, Luathbas and Gubta can become friends and even allies.

In the eastern parts of the region, the Tochi tribe seized the opportunity given by its warring neighbours, and seized lands belonging to both Kingdom of Novarae and the Wynthian tribe.

Then came the destruction of Tarakomun tribe at hands of the Kaartheil City-State. Some of the Tarakomuns must've been absorbed into Kaartheil society rather than just killed, as they have brought valuable knowledge about Mountain Dwelling to the Kaartheilans.

You decide to compose and sing a beautiful song for her. Even if you're not very wise in structure of songs and your voice isn't the most soothing and honey-laden, you shall try!

Quote
5*I swear you guys are in cahoots with RNG somehow

You manage to get some rhymes flowing nicely and then you sing for her a bawdy tale about a princess, a dryad boy and their playtimes thorough the days and nights. She gets into a giggling fit that causes nearby flowers to bloom and for the sun to shine through the thick canopy of the trees.

"That was wonderful! It was so nice! And funny!" Still giggling, she spins around on her spot.

"Yes, yes, I can already feel the shadow of sadness escape my soul! I'm sure I will somehow get rid of Othwok and find someone to have children with. It's time I got back to work!" She gives you a kiss on the cheek which makes your skin tingle and feel as if briefly exposed to fire.

You say farewells to the Dryad and leave her forest, embarking on a journey home.

Congratulations! Houlandin III successfully completed 'Please the Dryad of the Dark Forest' Epic Quest!

After you return to the Palace with the good news, you take a bath and a new set of royal clothes, just in time, too - the guards report that the Wizard is back at the gates. You tell them to take him to the throne room.

He enters as you sit down on your throne, and with a smile, he nods towards you.

"I can feel the Dryad being happy now. You did what I have asked of you. It's time I fulfill my part of the bargain, hmm?" Then he proceeds to leave the throne room!

"Where are you going?" You ask, but the Wizard keeps walking.

"Seek you the news from northwest about giant hawks and smoldering forest fires, King of Luathbas, and you shall know that way that I have succeeded."

The door closes behind him and you do not see him again.

855 AD, Summer

You receive news that in the north-west, some peasants saw a giant hawk soaring in the skies. Other report that a giant fire erupted in the forests further north, but curiously only kept smoldering for days before the fire seemingly went off by itself.

Since that event, there were no more savage wolf attacks, nor were there any peasants suddenly falling asleep.

855 AD, Autumn

Governor of Augas have sent you a letter. Despite your worst assumptions, it's not about Parsia.

He writes that certain fat emissary with a servant have arrived at his court and that he wishes for Luathbas to open the extremely lucrative trade with his homeland of Gubta Empire. However, the Governor is aware of the fact that your family has previously prefered to deal with Parsians than their enemies, and is thusly asking you what to do with the emissary.

A) Send him to the capital.
B) Have him sent back home.

The images on the buildings of the old Robos settlements recently shed light on the mystery behind the sudden and rather complete dissappearance of Sahdpi'Rahts culture. The image had war chariots of Robos run over the Sahdpi'Rahts men, and scientists believe that this image depicts destruction of Sahdpi'Rahts tribe due to Robos invasion.

You ask the toad for another round of riddles.

Quote
0*

He break you with the first riddle.

"Silly human." He ribbits. "Don't waste my time again." He jumps into the lake and you return to the Dryad, who sighs in defeat.

"I have my pebble, but nobody sings for me, nobody remains to take care of forest if I die, and Othwok will forever muddle me with his riddles..." She sobs a bit.

You tell her that you can...

A) Compose and sing a wonderful song for her.
B) Provide her with as many children as she wants.
