You decide to get some peasant fodder for the Augas' governor.

849 AD, Summer

The advisor arrives with several Army officials and several scrolls.

"These are the plans for the proposed re-organization of the Army. Unfortunately such big will be the cost of equipment that we ought to find second stable source of extra income, as the gold mining and taxes from Augas' routes might not be enough." Explains the trade advisor.

"It will take time to uproot the traditional orders of hierarchy within the Army, mayhaps even a decade or two, but with such martial-inclined ruler like you, my liege, we shall cooperate fully." Says the representative of the Army.

"All that we need is your signage on all these scrolls." Adds the advisor.

A) Sign the papers and begin re-organization of the Luathbas Army.
B) Reject such a costly and time-consuming proposal and ask if they can do better.

You order that mercenaries are to be found and hired.

"What do you mean by that!?"

"What I have just said, my liege." The advisor bows again. "The mercenaries across the region heard of how many of their numbers die under the banner of your dynasty, despite the offers of high payments... the hired swords would prefer to survive long enough to collect said payments. Several mercenary organizations and bands refused to even negotiate with envoys from your palace."

A) "Then draft me some peasants!"
B) "Bah! Inform the Governor he is on his own."

Next world will be giant market and he will get lost and barter one of his books for this strange device called 'glasses'.

VOILA, PROBLEM SOLVED V8

You dismiss the marshal and ask the advisor to prepare some plans to introduce this... mandatory state-sponsored drafted army style.

849 AD, Spring

Dire news from Augas! Some faction of the Parsians have invaded the province!

Quote

The assault was a complete surprise and thus few border garrisons were overran and captured. The Governor calls for reinforcements!

A) "Draft peasants and send them off!"
B) "Find some mercenaries and get them to Augas!"
C) "We can't help this time, but we will pray for you, Governor."

"I'm listening."

"Well sire, they have been in Damdamian lands few times and they had an opportunity to talk with the local aristocrats and army officers alike. Pieceing together the information about the Damdamian Army organization, it seems that, rather than knights providing themselves with own armor, and the peasants being drafted, it is the Kingdom that provides equal amount of equipment for every man. They also seem to include mandatory draft of young men between ages 18 and 35 for at least four-year tour of duty... I haven't spoken with the Master of Treasury or the trade advisor yet so I'm not sure how much drain on our resources such an army-"

*THUD!*

The Marshal smashes through the door and poses dramatically, his cape fluttering behind him in equally dramatically way.

"SIRE! Those are BARBARIC CUSTOMS he is speaking of! It is the KNIGHTS who lead the armies, and peasants who fight and die! How can you even CONSIDER becoming like our ENEMIES!?!"

A) Thank the advisor, calm the marshal, and stick to the traditional Luathbas military organization plans.
B) Dismiss the marshal and ask the advisor to consult with other officials and come up with theoretical list of projected expenses.

You decide to provide for your people with foreign foodstuffs.

Alas, the harvest elsewhere were rather poor as well, and little is storaged for the winter. Your subjects will suffer, unfortunately (at least the Treasury won't).

848 AD, Winter

You hear that your subjects are doing OK, despite food shortages. Deaths by starvation are small in number.

The taxes from Augas and the gold from mining operation in northwest re-fill the Treasury a little bit.

848, Midwinter

Your second wife gives birth to another boy (ain't she productive)! She names him 'Romuald', after your father.

848 AD, End of the Year

Happiness: 3
Population: 3
Economy: 6
Army: 4

After you pass the scrolls to the advisor, he continues standing there, seemingly in thought. You look at him, and he snaps out of it.

"Apologies, sire... but I have recently held council with some minor noblemen from the south and they happened to have concocted an idea. They want to institute a Damdamian-like practices for the organization of our Army, and I wonder if you're willing to hear it..."

A) "No Damdamian cults, laws and practices in my kingdom, how many times I have to repeat myself?"
B) "Fine, listening to their idea surely won't hurt, but I'm promising nothing."

//I assumed Gig wanted Ayzebel to move&lockpick ;v

Ayzebel heard a quiet hum as she stepped over the mosaic, but nothing happened. She then opened the chest.

Then Miranda poked a door, getting the attention of nearby enemies... including the spearmaster.

You tell him to just add it to the pile of other gemstones there.

848 AD, Autumn

The harvest was pretty bad; with no Hurthlings to use their agricultural hypercompetence, famine will visit Luathbas this winter... unless, the advisor points out, the Crown spends money on acquisition and storage of emergency foodstuffs.

A) No foodstuffs this year, we will be fasting to keep economy alright.
B) We're not earning money to not spend it - buy foodstuffs from abroads.
