You order healers and medicine to be hauled westwards.

Quote
2*

This does naught to fix the situation; in fact, many healers themselves contact the disease and the medicine bought by the Treasury didnt even lessen the symptoms in many of the cases.

846 AD, Summer

The plague continues to ravage the west of Luathbas and first cases were also reported in the north. Thousands have died, as far as numerous reports indicate.

There are roaming groups of bandits in the northeast! Apparently they're all operating under the self-imposed rule of Orach the Mighty, King of all Bandits. As for the bandits...

A) Send the Army to destroy the bandit horde and punish Orach.
B) Do nothing.

As for the plague...

A) Send more healers and medicine, even tapping into Augas tax revenues that were to be sent by the year's end.
B) Sacrifice to the gods, now that the more 'medical' approach has failed.
C) Do nothing and wait it out.

//Remember, partial votes will be ignored.

The advisor notes your obvious answer.

846 AD, Spring

All signs suggest that your wife did not get pregnant. Which, as your grandmother Ciri points out, makes you the first Houlandin not to get a child on the first possible moment.

You're not sure if you're supposed to feel special.

846 AD, Mid-Spring

Potentially disasterous news arrive from the east!

The Parsian King has been assasinated shortly after the coming of the new year, and his six sons are now fighting against each other for the Parsian throne.

Governor of Augas reports that he already did with the precautionary measures, like doubling of garrison numbers in eastern forts and more frequent road patrols.

846 AD, Late Spring

The western parts of your Kingdom suffer again, but this time it is much worse; plague reared its ugly head and your subjects are dying after days of fevers and vomiting. Some develop the worst and most obvious symptom: swollen bubbles of pus-like substance under their skin.

Peasants or nobles, governors or priests, all are susceptible and many contact the disease. The terrified court convenes in council with you. After the debate, it is agreed that best course of action would be to...

A) Send medicines and healers from around Luathbas westwards to try to contain the dreaded epidemic.
B) Deliver lavish monetary and livestock sacrifices to the gods of life and death and all others that could help with the plague.
C) Wait. Wait and hope of the best.

They collectively breathe in relief.

845 AD, Mid-Autumn

A contingent of Luathbas spearmen and axemen, with little cavalry (as mountainous terrain is expected) have marched out, with messengers to Magnus Parapetus preceding them by two days.

Week later he replies that your men have been welcomed as brothers-in-arms for the duration of this campaign and that he sends his utmost thanks for your Kingdom's participation in this war. He promises to send reports as often as he can.

845 AD, one of the usual, cold, windy, Late Autumn mornings

As the morning comes true and the sun lazily peeks above the clouded horizon, you find yourself and your wife in the same bed. You then remember the failure of fireplace ventilation in her bedroom on the evening, your offer of your favorite blanket aaaaand two goblets of wine that were perhaps unnecessary. Your slightly embarassed wife clears all doubts about the rest of the night.

There goes the promise.

845 AD, Winter

Trade advisor announces the increase of revenues this year thanks to incomes from the gold operations, and of course Augas trade taxes.

The mercenaries were aplenty this year, and with drafted peasants also accounted for new recruits, the Army was bolstered.

845 AD, Mid-Winter

Magnus Parapetus, Governor of Lametanian Province, sends you a report in which he praises the efficiency and strength of Luathbas men, ableit many of them died in initial skirmishes with the orcs. However, inroads were made into the mountainous homeland of the greenskins and the butchering of the inferior savages has begun in earnest!

845 AD, End of the Year

The advisor arrives with Scrolls of Status Kingdoms, which you can notice were edited with charcoal and juice quite often this year.

Happiness: 4
Population: 7
Economy: 5
Army: 3

"Our Army could still do better, my liege, may I offer the obvious?"

A) "Yeah, let's draft some more peasants."
B) "Yeah, let's hire some more wanderers."
C) "Naw bruh, we good this time."

You agree wholeheartedly with the anti-orcish crusade!

Your mother, your wife and the advisor look at you without approval.

"Sire, will you be joining the soldiers on their journey to the orcish homelands?" The advisor asks after a brief, awkward silence.

A) What no, where didja get that idea.
B) PER OF COURSE, AS I AM A HOULANDIN!

There were small holes about the mosaics and they were slightly lower than the rest of the floor; they were definitely trapped.

You provide them with money and supplies so they can ease the suffering of your subjects.

Alas, it has meager effects at helping all. At least the disease, famine and some discontent was fixed with the spent money.

The guards hastily report that-

*THUD*

It's Ahab Hahalol again, and he doesn't look particularily happy as he approaches your throne.

"Houlandin III, be blessed on this fine day! I am here to announce that my good King, Master of all Parsia, have decided to stop with the special favors for your merchants. He also wants to note that he is merely acting on the current market situation in Parsia, and if your province happens to gain a pile of coins less than usual - that is not particularily his worry. I have spoken!" He bows and then storms off.

845 AD, Autumn

You receive a letter with the seal of Magnus Parapetus, Governor of Lametanian Province.

In the beginning of the letter he is praising your continuing prosperous reign.

The business at hand is related to the orcs; his soldiers have managed to push back the raiding hordes before they spilled northwards. As the laws of Damed, Heavenly Father, require of him, he has to go forth and vanquish the orcs in their homeland too. As he knows of the history of orcish raids into Luathbas, he is giving you an opportunity to, for once, take the fighting into the mountainous homeland of the orcs and get rid of the raiding menace once and for all - and in the meanwhile, try to melt the lingering ice between your two glorious nations.

You reply that...

A) You're not going to risk such a lenghty campaign at the moment, and thus must refuse.
B) You agree to join the anti-orcish crusade in hopes of forever freeing Luathbas of the orcish warbands!
C) You symphatize with his plight, and while you cannot provide troops, you can send a small portion of the Treasury so he can get extra men from amongst mercenaries.

FOOSH.

The skeleton turned into pile of bone ash and motes of fabric. Only the shield remained shiny and intact as if crafted yesterday. The shield fell to the ground, bounced off, ricocheted off the corner wall and landed in Altha's hands, because that's how it happens.

Back to scheduled programming!

You accept the proposal, hoping it will turn out OK.

The ceremony next week is much grander as Raellia's parents are able to put enough wealth into it. There is the traditional Pantheon ceremony, maiden chorus and a proper feast with over 200 noble guets of various ranks.

By the evening Raellia tells you that she won't be having your children now as she is scared of following Serinda's footsteps.

You two agreee to postpone the 'first night' by a year or maybe two.

845 AD, Summer

There is famine and disease going about! Your populous kingdom has its worst in the west because that's were most of the Kiwi refugees settled down. The governors vary in proposed responses (from moderate to downright murderous), and during a council they forward a letter to you to ask for guidance. You decide to...

A) Provide them with money and materials from the Crown's reserves so they help those suffering.
B) Order them to expel non-Luathbas-born people (read: Kiwis)
C) Let them do what they think is best.
