You lead your men against another camp! Archers and some spearmen are there, and your men engage them in melee.

After a while, its obvious that you're, unfortunately, losing. As it stands-

*swish-THOK*

*THUD!*

Your men, seeing you on the ground with an arrow protruding from your left eye socket, quickly panic; some retreat, most surrender. Their King is dead - what else could they do?

831 AD, Late Summer

You are Lech, son of Houlandin, and, by the decision of the court and Queen Mother Ciri, the new King of Luathbas! There was of course some protest from Queen Aolineniya, but her child is too young to rule a nation that is in such deep trouble. To further cement your rule, you abandon the Houlandin name and use yours as the new naming convention.

Much like your father, wisdom is your strongest point, and you always excelled in fields of history and traditions.

831 AD, Autumn

Fortunately, Queen Alexandra, after the bloody siege of Felonsein that thinned her numbers, and perhaps due to your elder brother's reckless attack, decided to ask for peace.

You are now at House of Lech, with her emissary, Count Dakpaklaktak, who offers you the same terms that were presented to your older brother. Unfortunately, with the fall of Felonsein, and the current state of Luathbas's forces, you have to agree on ceding Southern Territories to Lametania by default.

There remain however the two other conditions. The more you agree to, the easier it will be to maintain the peace in the future...

A) Agree to marry a female member of Queen Alexandra's family, and allow followers of Damed freedom of worship and equal religious laws.
B) Agree to marry a female member of Queen Alexandra's family, but foreign cults shall have no place in Luathbas!
C) Reject the marriage proposal, but allow the Cult of Damed its rights and freedom on par with Luathbas' current pantheon.
D) Reject both, and persuade the Duke to back your stance after his return to Queen Alexandra.

You order your horsemen to go one way to strike the advancing army's rear, and then you take your men the other way to attack the camps.

Quote
6, 4

Your men fall upon one of the northernmost camps around Felonsein fortress; the battle cries rouse the relaxing men, without their weapons and armors ready. By a stroke of luck, your men stumbled upon the camp belonging to the heavily armored infantrymen! Their tought armors and sharp blades are no match to axes and spears of your soldiers if they're not worn!

A big melee ensues once nearby camps are alerted to your presence.

Not long after you clear this camp, a wounded horseman rides to you and reports that the cavalry found and struck against the flank of the marching formation, but suffered many casualties and retreated north-eastwards. They will try to drag the army away but won't be able to contribute much to your efforts at Felonsein.

Then you decide to...

!
A) Carve a path to Felonsein gates in hopes of joining the garrison.
B) Attempt a retreat to strike against the marching unit, hopefully appearing at its flank or rear.
C) Quickly move your men towards another camp and try clearing it out too.

You tell him that you reject those demands. He bows, and leaves.

Few days after that encounter, you have Felonsein castle visible in the horizon, alas, the scouts report that a large force of Lametanian soldiers, backed by archers, is marching northwards to meet you. At a meeting with military commanders, you decide to...

A) Meet them head on!
B) Find and camp at well defended position, if there is any on those flat, forested plains.
C) Split the forces so that the cavalry goes harass the enemy, while you and your forces go roundabout way to strike at side or rear of the enemies besieging Felonsein.!

You order that the armies be ready to resume a move south in few days' time.

Five days later, you and your army is moving south once again, toward Felonsein. Your scouts report that the main siege army have arrived, having bested you in the forests, and they manage to deal considerable damage with their siege engines, mostly catapults.

When you're one day away from Felonsein, the scout brings someone to you; it the emissary of Lametania.

"O, King of Luathbas, brave warrior of proud people. My good Queen, Alexandra, is willing to offer you peace if you accept some conditions." You have him say those conditions.

The first is ceding of the Southern Territories to Lametania. The second is freedom of worship and equal religious rights to the followers of Damed. The third is the bethrothal of your oldest son with Queen's niece, Issira.

A) Tell the emissary that you reject those stupid conditions.
B) Tell the emissary that you're willing to negotiate something less demanding.
C) Tell the emissary that you accept those conditions if it brings peace between your two nations.

Ye, and once you can sprinkle it with your 'lore', then you have a FEF ready for deployment and player recruitment v;

11857
FEF1 was the first FEF game on forums, and that gave way to handbook usage, maps, post format, etc etc.

Before that, there were Maptools sessions, which were a bit more chaotic but some stuffs I learned from there, like how to character sheet, where to mugs, etc v:

You order your remaining men to make a hasty retreat northwards!

Quote
4

In somewhat orderly manner, the remainder of footsoldiers quickly forms a rear guard that follows you and your mounted bodyguard of noblemen. On the way north, you meet with the spearmen reserves that look quite allright and relaxed.

"We never met the Lametanian horsemen, sire." Says their commanding officer.

With over two thousand of footsoldiers and fifty horsemen, you make your way toward House of Lech.

Quote
5

Only seldomly do Lametanian horsemen attack and harass the rear and flanks of your army, but those attacks are easily repelled with just minimal casualties amongst those retreating with you.

Few days later, a forward scout reports sighting of a camp with Luathbas banners!

By the evening, you enter the camp; it's not, unfortunately, reinforcements, but rather a small group of forward watch. They are warned of incoming Lametanian forces, and then you make your way back to House of Lech. Fortunately, this part of the journey comes without shame of defeat and risk of your life.

In two days time, you cross the gate of House of Lech, and have a messenger dispatched to the capital, asking for reinforcements of any kind.

The military commanders convene with you, and in this debate the next course of action is decided...

A) Let's wait and recuperate for a few days or maybe a week, even.
B) We will take the reserves of House of Lech and march back towards Felonsein at once!

You order the Hurthlings to come help the attacked flank.

The yells of the foreigners tell you that they did notice the non-humans...

Quote

Your men are cut down along with Hurthlings.

And then you hear a battle cry from your right; it's Lametanian cavalry!! Either your spearmen reserves were utterly destroyed or the Queen's horsemen managed to avoid confrontation in the forest!

The situation looks grim.

!
A) Run away northwards! Mayhaps the escape route isn't cut off, and maybe even our spearmen are still out there!
B) Surrender to Queen Alexandra's forces.

You order the spearmen reserves to leave your side and march to the rear to stop advancing cavalry.

Meanwhile, a new regiment of the heavy infantry is approaching at your flank! You begin suspecting that these aren't just mercenaries, and that Queen Alexandra might have some powerful allies willing to back her conquests with many forces.

Quote

The armored swordsmen are cutting through your men like scythe through wheatstalks!

A) Move the Hurthlings to boost the flank's numbers!
B) -
C) We're suffering too many casualties... we gotta retreat!

You order your commanders to evade the camps and march straight against the incoming siege force!

They meet head on in an open area between two parts of the local forest.

Quote

As it's hard to deploy and communicate amongst the trees, both sides have trouble deploying, and the melee starts too soon! The heavy infantry clashes hard with your men, and in terms of numbers, your side suffers more casualties.

A while later, while the chaotic melee continues, a scout brings news; part of the camping enemies mounted horses and are now rushing against your rear! The force is small, but even such a small force can do lots of damage with such a pincer attack.

A) "Have our cavalry charge and meet with them."
B) "Ask the Hurthlings to ambush them."
C) "Order our spearmen reserves to block them."
