Despite the misgivings of the advisor, the knight tournament will be a thing!

Quote
3

Alas, while it was a show, it wasn't as good a show as it was supposed to be, and the attendance was lacking. At least the nobles had some fun.

827 AD, Autumn

The governor of Augas happily reported that the last of the ten-year caravans have been dispatched to Parsia. From next year on, revenues from the province will finally be heading to the borders of Luathbas instead!

827 AD, Mid-Autumn

Another tribe of Fomorians appeared in the north-west!

People who had the misfortune of getting in their way tell stories that these Fomorians have raided several meadows for cattle and sheep, but they're very cautious about their crimes and sprint away to safety when found.

Quote
6

The hunters and woodsmen have already found their tribe's hideout!

They also report that this tribe is led by a 'king' who wears a large purple cloak and wields a mace with the head made of black glassy stone. Like before, they seem to be comprised of whole families, down to the elderly and children.

A) This band of savages shall be dealt with like the one before! Time for our army to show it's might!
B) Send an properly bodyguarded envoy with demand that the Fomorians leave.
C) Personally appear before the Fomorian who dares to call himself 'King' inside your country!

You order the army to slay the beast.

Quote

Alas, during one almost successful operation, the minotaur have escaped! The army scouts and horsemen then pursued the beast for days, until almost crossing into the borders of western states, which is the last time anyone saw the horned beast.

Hopefully the Minotaur won't appear in Luathbas again.

826 AD, End of the Year

It's the usual time for the usual appearance of the advisor with the same scrolls as usual.

Happiness: 4

827 AD, Spring

Famine struck Luathbas!

Fortunately, the Hurthlings managed to double the output of their 'winter apples' and some roots as well, and this managed to stave off starvation. Phew!

827 AD, Summer

The advisor visits you during particularily hot day.

"My liege, in mere one season of time there will be anniversary of your victorious military campaign in Augas, and therefore a knight tournament will surely be requested by the veterans of the war as well as noblemen across the country."

"However, I should note that if we were to host such an event, our economy would suffer even more. I therefore ask you to not host such a venue at all."

A) Host the knight tournament! For glory of the ever-victorious Army!
B) We definitely need to curb our expenses. No tournaments!

You tell the guards to dismiss the dwarves as you won't be buying any artifacts from them.

Later that day the guards report that dwarves left, grumbling about 'wasted time and money'.

826 AD, Autumn

Augas' governor reports that, like every year, he have sent the revenue convoy to Parsia.

826 AD, Winter

"A minotaur, sire!"

Is the cry of a squire that have came from the west!

Apparently he was sighted by the autumn, stalking the woods, but just as the snow began to fall, he have attacked a village, slicing peasants with his axe and violating their women, but he managed to escape before the local militia could intervene.

A) Send the Army on a search and destroy operation!
B) Hire a band of high-leveled adventurers to slay this fearsome beast!

You tell your reasons.

"As you wish, sire."

826 AD, Summer

Your wife gives birth - to a boy! She names him Ethelwulf, and as your heir he is bound to become Houlandin III, unless he decides to, for one reason or another, adopt some other regnal name.

826 AD, Midsummer

Guards report that dwarven magicsmiths have arrived at the gates! They came to visit you because  your father have bought their services before, and they are offering to craft an artifact for you as well.

A) No! We do not need any more dwarven artifacts.
B) Invite them in and listen to their proposal.

"I see." The advisor rubs his chin.

"Our nation is prosperous, our borders secure. May I know the reason behind your demand?"

A) "A white stag talked to me and said that a doe shall lead Lametanians in the future and destroy our Kingdom if we do not prepare!"
B) "It is simply my desire to have a strong Army."

Also, what happened to the people we posted as road guards? Can't we get them back?

Nope.

The delegation squee'd in happiness and then, bowing many, many times made their way to the door.

825 AD, Midsummer

And an angry letter came from the northlands. Unfortunately, it's not signed only by the stubborn governor, but also several other prominent figures; noblemen and even a member of the clergy.

In the letter, they express their anger at the current development and even accuse you of 'hoping to make Hurthlings a majority, and Humans an oppressed minority!' You compose them a reply in an attempt to calm them...

Quote
4*

Two weeks later they send a reply, in which they admit they might have acted a litle rash, and will fulfill your mandate, but with caution, moderation and at a pace they dictate to the Hurthlings.

825 AD, Autumn

The Governor of Augas have sent a letter in which he confirms both the dispatch and the safe arrival of the revenue caravan to the Parsian borders.

825 AD, End of the Year

After several months of calmness, the year comes to its conclusion, and that means a visit of the advisor and Scrolls of Kingdom Status!

Happiness: 5
Population: 5
Economy: 3
Army: 4

No changes here.

"Now," the advisor sets the scrolls aside. "I heard that Your Majesty wished to speak with me?"

A) "Yes! We need to strengthen our nation, and therefore announce drafting of peasants into ranks of the Army."
B) "Yes! We need to strengthen our nation, and therefore announce recruitment of mercenaries and adventurers to bolster Army ranks."
C) "Sorry, it's nothing."

//EDIT: Fixed economy rating cuz I forgot you sponsored the Hunt.

You think about knowledge.

"I shall give you knowledge. In six years time, the slayers of your father shall regain their strength, and, under guidance of a ruthless doe, shall strike with huge numbers of warriors and little warning, which shall spell your doom unless you prepare for them well." Before you can ask for details, the white stag turns around and then effortlessly jumps - or, you could say, flies - across the huge ravine, reaching the other side and disappearing between the trees.

You return to the rest of the hunting group with sad news that unfortunately the white stag managed to flee.

"Ah, we were prepared for this to happen." Says the leading priest. "In last two centuries, and eleven hunts, we hath captured and sacrificed the white stag only once. Mayhaps your sons, or sons of your sons, shall have more luck."

You return to the castle after the feast were two previously hunted, normal stags, are main dishes.

825 AD, Summer

A Hurthling delegation have arrived, all of them in pink cloaks.

"Our good hew-mon sirreh!" They squeak. "We are plentiful, and we are working hard, and we are paying taxes to the good governah, and our Chiiftain asked him to let us join important offices to have representation, but the governah said no! So Chiiftain sent us here because he always had the ear of good hew-mon King!" You...

A) Promise that you write a letter to the governor in which you shall ask that Hurthlings are allowed to take important positions amongst humans.
B) Won't help them because there must be a line drawn between the integration of the two societies.

You take the arrow off the bow and lower the weapon.

"Thank you, noble master of burning metal, for sparing my existence. As I said, I can provide you with knowledge or power, though you have to tell me what it is that your heart desires."

A) Knowledge
B) Power

You tell the others that you will try to hunt it down by yourself!

Therefore you chase it into the trees, your horse more than capable to match its speed and ease of navigation through the trees.

Quote
6HNNNNNNNGGG

You finally catch it at the end of a cliff that goes down to meet with a small river snaking underneath. The white stag looks at you as your pick an arrow, then pull the bowstring...

"Stop, master of metal that burns."

You just heard a voice in your head!

"I am Kiardane, the spirit of a forest from far north, and a guest in the body of this noble stag. If he dies, so I will, due to the workings of the spirit world. Spare my host, and thus me, and I shall grant you a boon of either power or knowledge." You remember, however, that the priests said that sacrifice of a white stag could definitely bring prosperity upon your people and your country...

A) Shoot the stag.
B) Spare the spirit's host.

The priests are happy to hear that you will be joining the hunt - and also funding it.

Next week you, along with several prominent nobles, like your brother the Duke, and some others, ventures into the forests north of the castle.

Quote

Two brown stags are hunted to provide for the feast after the event, but no white stags are found.

Quote
5to6

"My liege! Look there!" You and others look at the direction pointed by one of the squires - and there it is! A large, white stag with glowing red eyes, standing on a forested hill, staring down at you!

A) You're the king! Call dibs on the white stag!
B) Let skilled hunters chase and catch the beast.

You have the grand festival approved and funded!

You do not need reports to know that it worked well! The Army got lots of aspiring recruits after the knight tournament hosted the unprecedented 128 contestants. The thanksgiving festival allowed the peasants to take peeks at the fights and jousting of the knights as well, and they kept chatting about the spectacle for weeks. It was a great success!

824 AD, Winter

"Stillborn!? The curse was apparently lifted! What's the meaning of this?!"

"My liege!" The advisor takes you outside Aolineniya's bedroom. "I told you, before we understood that curse was the cause, that there are slight anatomical differences. Maybe you should slow down with the baby-making and let our beloved Queen to rest and recuperate."

"And you mean what exactly by that?"

"Mayhaps you should plan for a child every... two, three years? I'm pretty sure that the Queen wishes for a boy just as much as you, but if you two continue with the frequent feats of procreation, her womb might get damaged in some unexpected way."

824 AD, Midwinter

The governor of the demon-assaulted mining-city in the south hath sent a wagon full of money and a letter in which he announced closure of all mining shafts in his city, as he dares not to wake another monstrosity if there are any lurking under the hills - not that anyone wants to mine for ores there anymore, anyways.

824 AD, End of the Year

The advisor arrives with the all-knowing scrolls in his hands.

Happiness: 5
Population: 5
Economy: 4
Army: 4

825 AD, Spring

The priests of the God of the Hunt have arrived at your castle.

"My liege, we have studied the omens and signs of the gods of the forest, and we have concluded that this spring is the anniversary of the Hunt of the White Stag that happens about once per generation of men! As tradition dictates, we hope that you shall join other high nobles and our hunter-priests in hopes of capturing a white stag to bring good luck and prosperity for our beloved country for next few years!" He smiles, scratching his chin.

"Of course, we will need a little bit of donations from Your Majesty's coffers to cover the expenses..."

A) Traditions are worth upholding and spending money on! Let's do the hunt!
B) You do not have time nor money to really waste on such frivolous things, and therefore you will not participate.

You tell the dignitary that there will be no mercenaries this year.

The diplomat leaves unhappy.

824 AD, Autumn

The usual report about the usual revenues of Augas province arrives at your court.

824 AD, Mid-Autumn

You learn of the bontiful harvests this year even before your advisor brings you the reports.

"Our nation is prosperous and the priests ask for a thanksgiving festival so that the gods will be respected and peasants get some fun. The nobles however insist on a knight tournament so that our ever-victorious Army can flex its muscles for fun and profit! Shall with fund something this year, my liege?"

A) Host a knight tournament so that noble ladies can sigh toward their chosen knights and squires!
B) Fund the thanksgiving festival so that the peasants can have fun and fill their stomachs!
C) Aw what the heck, let's host both because a 'grand festival' haven't happened in Luathbas since the rule of Kroth the Golden in the mid-700's!

Along with your letter you send messengers to garrison commanders to select hundreds of men who shall become new guards of the northern roads and villages.

823 AD, End of the Year

After you finish your afternoon tea, you peruse the Scrolls of Kingdom Status brought to you by the advisor.

Happiness: 3
Population: 5
Economy: 5
Army: 3

You don't think you ever saw the Army rating that low before.

824 AD, Spring

A dignitary from the west arrives.

"I am representative of the Kingdom of Trotrot. In the past times, our previous King hath, via a dignitary, bought mercenaries, men from your Kingdom, in exchange for precious coinage. I hath arrived  with hope of achieving the same goal, sire, as we need strong and capable men to deal with the raiding and pillaging of the Kiwi Kingdom." After a moment of consideration, you decide to...

A) Send some men with the dignitary in exchange for lots of money!
B) Apologize to the dignitary as this time you do not wish to send any soldiers away from your service.

You agree to send your Army in to defeat the giant and order prayers for their poor souls.

Quote
4*(for fucks sake why do you keep rolling 6's this is absurd and bluuurgghh

Apparently your Army is made of superheroes.

A military commander recognized what weakens salt and therefore had catapults loaded with giant ceramic pots of waters. Then he had those pots launched at the salt demon.

This infuriated the salt demon, and, while it did began to break down, it breathed upon the thousands of soldiers gathered to protect the catapults. Finally, the giant collapsed amongst a forest of salt pillars.

It has been reported that all of the 'demonic' salt, be it people turned into salt or the carcass of the salt-wolf itself turned into white mist and dissipated. Apparently trade advisor got a little angry about this.

You also order the search for a Wizard to be cancelled as well.

823 AD, Autumn

Governor of Augas reports that the yearly transport of revenue to Parsia has been dispatched. Situation across the border seems stable as the King got better, and apparently executed several of his family members for treason.

823 AD, Mid-Autumn

Your beloved elven Queen have given birth to another child!

It's a girl again. She named her Morgan.

823 AD, Late Autumn

Spies from the borders to the south report that little to none of Damad's worshippers have ventured in or out Luathbas in recent months.

823 AD, Winter

The first snow appeared little more than a week ago but the weather since then is continuously terrible, and transportation across the country hath suffered. This in turn forced less fortunate people to turn to crime - bandits and other raiders flourish!

Mayors of the cities in the north have sent you a group letter in which they ask that you disband part of the Army and instead station them in cities and villages as road guards. You write a reply for them, in which...

A) You promise to have part of the Army made into road guard to strengthen security in the north.
B) You symphatize with their plight but emphasize that you cannot dismiss your loyal soldiers.
