You wait for hours.

Just as you were preparing to take a nap, you hear a rumble of loose stones rolling down, and there is the lizard! It just climbed down back to its nest.

It sniffed the air towards you, and then just stared.

A) Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrge!
B) Observe it more, maybe it will get curious and get closer?

You decide to stay back and observe.

The lizard paces about its nest, stops to sniff in your direction from time to time. After a long while... it climbs the vertical cliff face without effort and gets away from you easy peasy.

A) Welp. Let's wait and see if it comes back.
B) Continue climbing to see if there are more lizards to hunt higher on the mountain.

You decide to find a river or some gentler slope. You succeed in that, but you basically have to walk on the other side of the mountain, and that takes you whole day. You camp for the night and to have a meal.

(Supplies: 8 )

By the morning, you're ready to ascend the mountain truly.

As the sun reaches its highest point, you find an old nest; only some purple-orange-yellow-black scales, faded and old, are a proof that it was a nest of rainbow lizard.

What unnerves you is that most of the scales are larger than your thumb nails.

Short time of climbing later, you get on a shelf, and in the distance you see it - a yellow lizard, size of a small pony. It looks yellow, but with every move you can see that light reflecting off its scales produces stripes of purple and orange coloration. It's truly a pretty sight.

Slowly, you walk toward it with your sword drawn, but you don't get even mid-way towards it before it hisses. It very well knows you are here.

A) Attack! For the elven waifu!!
B) Step back and observe the damn lizard.

You decide to climb the mountain from here.

You get only a bit up before you lose your grip and fall down onto a shelf, and from it, down to the ground, and you lose consciousness.

When you wake up, it's night, and you feel bruised all over. You rest till morning.

(Supplies: 9)

Now what?

A) Try climbing again!
B) Let's seek easier way up.

You slowly approach the tree-house; as you come closer you can notice the window, the door, footsteps leading to it fashioned from planks and even a small garden, surrounded by pebbles, on the side.

You knock on the door and wait, anxious.

The door is opened by a... a squirrel. Large, grey, squirrel that is about half your size.

"Hello! I am Niknik. I am a trigendered amorphic squirrelkin hermit!

"Trigendered?"

"I identify as a male, a hermaphrodite and a gendershifter. You got problem with that?"

"Err, no?"

"Good! Don't you trigger me!"

The squirrelkin lets you in and treats you to a soup of roots and berries, and then you tell Niknik about your journey and your goal and problems back home.

Quote

After you finish your tale, the squirrel sniffs and wipes tears with a towel.

"That's so sad! You're such a hero! I gotta help you, brave human! Spend a night at my place and in the morning I will give you tastiest and most filling of berries!" You agree, and spend the night huddled in the corner of the treehouse.

In the morning, Niknik gives you big red berries you never saw before, and instructs you how to get through forest to mountains in the fastest way.

(Supplies: +3, 11)

Using Niknik's clues, you pass through the forest and by the evening, arrive at the base of the Summit of Venoms. You camp there.

(Supplies: 10)

In the morning, you gotta decide how to proceed. Do you...

A) Climb the mountain face from here.
B) Seek gentler slopes or maybe a river to follow upwards.

You decide to take your chances with the swamp.

It is rather large and there rarely a tree and enough dry ground to stand up, but crossing from one grass patch to another, you make your way.

By the time of late afternoon, you see the thick tree line of the forest... but to the east, there's a lone large tree, fashioned into shape of a tall house - and a light coming from a hole that looks suspiciously like a window.

A) It's a house of swamp witch, swamp troll, troll witch or something else - to the forest, quick!
B) Let's approach the tree-house-thing and see who lives there.

@somemildmanneredidiot: Ever consider writing 'Game Lord of the Rings and Thrones '? :P

You continue to thread between the stones and the mounds for a while longer. You trip few times but you continue on your escape attempt.

Finally, you run between some trees. You moved forward and the trees now surround you and the mist is gone! The sky above you is illuminated with stars and a moon in zenith.

You look back and with help of the moonlight, see a set of tall stones and hills in an open field... a field that wasn't much larger than the space taken by your castle, to be honest. It's a really small field.

There was some trickery involved and its a good thing that you managed to get out. You follow into the forest for a while and then camp to get some rest.

(Supplies: 9)

In the morning, you feel refreshed and make a note to not go back home through here.

You trek through the forest all day, and without much problems, you find a good place to camp for the evening.

(Supplies: 8 )

Next day, you walk through the forest for most of the morning but finally you encounter a large swamp. Across it, you can see the mountains, althought nothing stops you from continuing your trek through the forest in an arching way to avoid the treacherous swampland.

A) Navigate through the swamp.
B) Continue through the trees.

You follow along the road.

You start to notice that there are tall stones or small hills to the sides of the road, and both get only larger in size as you follow the road. The weather turns a bit awry as a mist slowly engulfs you...

Something is not right however, as the sun seems to have vanished from the sky and the mist has this strange chill about it.

Suddenly you realize that you might be walking through some kind of ancient burial grounds! You follow the road in both directions, but the markers and the knolls remain the same height. Then you step off the road, and find yourself amidst even more burial hills.

You seem to navigate through them for hours and hours without rest, and you body feels like it really needs to sleep - yet the time seems to have stopped, as the surroundings are still bright and the mist is still strong.

A) Continue finding your way out, despite the fact that you're tired.
B) Camp and sleep here, lest you trip and break your neck over a stone due to exhaustion.

You decide to follow the overgrown road that snakes northwards.

The road goes and goes till finally evening approaches, and you need to camp for the night, to prepare a meal and get some sleep.

(Supplies: 10)

In the morning, you can see that the road continues northwards. Of course, you can always enter the forest that is right between you and the mountains.

A) Continue along the road.
B) Enter the forest.

You agree, despite the pleas of Queen Mother and the advisor to not go on such a dangerous quest.

The wizard will be traveling around your Kingdom, but you should not worry - he will know exactly when to return to your Palace.

Next morning, the sky is cloudy and thin rain wets the ground. You, King of Luathbas, armed with a sword, protected by chainmail, and with a bag of necessary supplies and food, leave your castle and travel northwards.

Congratulations! Houlandin II have embarked upon an Epic Quest!

It will be a lengthy adventure that will heavily involve combat, diplomacy or both. He will be restricted by Supplies, however; if he runs out of these, he will be forced to return home, lest he starves to death (there will be of course chance encounters or options to replenish Supplies a bit).

Less than a week later, you leave a house of the nobleman dwelling northernmost in your Kingdom. You are leaving your subjects behind and enter the wilderness.

Far in the north, you can see a mountain chain. The nobleman was kind enough to point that the Summit of Venoms is the second tallest of the mountains in the chain, and is quite in the 'front' of the other mountains. For now, you decide to...

A) Follow the overgrown cobblestone road that snakes northwards.
B) Cut right through this dense conifer forest to save supplies and mayhaps even time.
C) Follow the nearby river; rivers often have their sources in the mountains, after all.
