It's party time!!

Quote
4

The grandiose festival costs a bit, and not everyone had his or her fill of meal and mead, and the priests grumbled that sacrifices could be a little bit more lavish, but overall, it was a good festival that lifted everyone's spirits.

807 AD, Winter

A dignitary from a small kingdom in the west arrives at the court. He has heard of your Kingdom's provisions of mercenaries in the past, and is willing to buy the services of your Army. As his nation's revenues are small, his King offers to pay for the mercenaries in next three years, with deliveries of payment coming after the last of snow disappears from the fields.

The Army marshal would rather not part with his men, especially with the province of Augas being a hot-bed for skirmishes. The trade advisor of course would welcome even more money into the Crown's coffers.

A) So be it! We shall lend them our trusted soldiers as mercenaries.
B) Naw, I ain't got enough soldiers to send them everywhere they're needed.

12047
There will be no tournaments or festivals as the Crown needs to save money.

807 AD, Mid-Spring

Messengers bring reports of peasants attacking Crown officials. There were also few small riots in four cities. All this was taken care of by the city guards and, in few instances, the Army.

807 AD, Late Spring

An urgent report from Augas!

Quote
5

There was another attempt by the Parsians to retake the province, but your Army managed to defeat the enemy forces.

807 AD, Autumn

The yearly caravan of revenues from Augas have arrived at the court, filling the Treasury with lovely clinking coinage.

807 AD, Mid-Autumn

After the harvest, this very heated year is drawing to a close. The crops provided much sustenance, and the population will surely increase next year.

Some city mayors believe that it would be a good thing to thank the gods of harvest for this boon with a grandiose Festival, although the trade advisor believes that our economy isn't in good enough shape to host such lavish things. On other hand, the representantives of the priestly caste want to note that you have angered the gods of harvest, fertility and such already in the past, and a thanksgiving festival is basically required this year.

A) Party time!
B) No money, no festivals.

12048
You decide to spend some money on adventurers, mercenaries and such to bolster the Army ranks.

Quote
6 this is fuckin witchcraft

The promise of easy money, not to mention being stationed to in such a rich province, attracts individuals, groups and entire cohorts of wanderers who join the Army.

806 AD, End of the Year

The advisor brings his scrolls once again. Expenses were high but the Augas province, or rather its trade routes, managed to keep the economy good enough.

Happiness: 5
Population: 4
Economy: 3

807 AD, Spring

The 100th anniversary of the extremely important Battle of the Anslach Hills, which defined the borders and independence of Luathbas, is happening this spring. The populace, both noblemen and peasants alike, are expecting some big festival with knight's tournament on top.

Unfortunately, the advisor says that preparing such a giant venue is beyond the Treasury's capabilities. You could host either of the two, however.

A) -
B) Let's host a knightly tournament for the entertainment of the nobles and prestige of the Army!
C) Let's host a springtime festival, so that peasants can drink and eat and be merry!
D) Naw mang, we ain't go money for this.

12049
By the Royal decree, the Army shall go forth and grab the province of Augas from Kingdom of Parsia! FOR GLORY AND LOOT!!

Quote
5

The army does excellent job in all aspects. The offense catches the Parsians by surprise and before the Augasian governor can mount any effective resistance, your soldiers already occupy most of the strategically important areas and keeps.

The Augas province, the crossroads of trade routes of many kingdoms, is now yours!

806 AD, Autumn

Already the revenues from mercantile taxes in Augas are filling up Luathbas' coffers!

806 AD, Mid-Autumn

You can't help but notice that your wife, so fertile once, did not bear you any children in last two years, and of course you don't shrink from your marriage duties. The royal healers determine that your wife is, in fact, barren. They do not understand why she suddenly lost the ability to produce babies, but they promise to investigate and try to help her.

806 AD, Winter

One of the factions in Parsian Civil War have begun a counter-offensive to regain Augas for themselves!

Quote
4

The fighting is intense and Luathbas army sees many casaulties, but you remain in control of the province!

806 AD, Mid-Winter

A prominent general arrives at your court.

"Sire! We demand more men so that we can maintain security in our glorious country as well as to man the garrisons of Augas!"

A) Spend some of Treasury's wealth on procuring mercenaries and adventurers to boost Army's ranks.
B) Draft some Luathbas peasants into the Army.
C) Do nothing as you're certain that the ever-victorious Army can do well as it is right now!

12050
You declare that you're willing to pay them with adjustments made for change of coinage.

Quote
5

They have a little convo about this in their own language. Afterwards, they accept your counter-offer.

After they're given several wagon-loads of gold coins, they depart to their homelands, wherever they might lie.

806 AD, Summer

More news from Kingdom of Parsia! The civil war that have ended in fragile peace just weeks ago has been restarted with the assassination of their newly choosen King. Parsians once again bleed themselves and the province of Augas is again an easy target.

A) Send the army to conquer Augas so we can get filthy rich!
B) We have enough problems to deal at home, let's stay put.

12051
You demand that they provide you with the very contract they speak of; the dwarves happily oblige while mentioning that the copy given to that King of old surely must be somewhere in the royal archives.

You set on to read the document.

Quote
5*

You read through the document, compare it with the copy found in the archives, go through any possible precedents about dealing with fanficul creatures and... unfortunately, you find out that it is valid and still legally binding.

What is not valid is the amount of money required to be paid; in the 760's, during the reign of Leth the Miner, Luathbas have moved from electrum coins to high-grade golden ones and therefore, the payment would be much smaller in today's money; also while the document does speak of 'possible other payments' it does not, in fact, specify that slaves must be a replacement payment for this contract.

The dwarves do have a valid reason to be paid, but on other hand, they're not entirely honest with you.

A) Let them have the properly adjusted payment, and while it will still drain the Treasury a bit, at least it won't be a complete robbery.
B) Refuse to pay the dwarves on the basis that they are dishonest with You, King of Luathbas, himself!
C) Quietly ask the royal guard to 'solve' this problem.

12052
You request that the army goes forth and slays the dragon. The Army grumbles, but obliges.

Quote
6

You receive a report that the army attacked the dragon in a fierce rush and then like ants, the men began stabbing and slashing at the beast's scales, overwhelming him in few hours' time. People cheer the death of the dragon, and the Army ranks swell with people who are 'proud to serve' such a powerful military.

805 AD, Autumn

Northern lands, grateful for slaying the Dragon that harassed their lands for the past decade, have sent lavish gifts and tributes that more than easily pay for the extra festivals scheduled this year.

805 AD, Winter

Last of the festivals scheduled was just concluded. Reports indicate that the people were more than happy to have so much fun this year!

805 AD, Midwinter

Quote

Your youngest son, Óidach, succumbs to a terribly high fever that had developed from a cold.

805 AD, End of the Year

The Advisor arrives with his scrolls, which, this year, show much more optimistic figures than the last time.

Happiness: 5
Population: 4
Economy: 4
Army: 6

806 AD, Spring

A small group of dwarves arrives at the court! The ugly, short, deformed creatures that reek of earth and death claim that one of the Luathbas monarchs of old had him crafted a sword by their very own hands, and he promised payment 'after ninety-nine years exact, and if the promise is to be broken, earthly plague shall prey on the Kingdom.' They demand to be paid obscene amount of money, or, if you're so inclined, slaves, to work in their mines.

A) We can't risk angering fanciful creatures! Let them have the money they were promised.
B) We can't risk angering fanciful creatures! Have them snatch away some peasants for the mines.
C) Quietly ask the royal guard to 'solve' this problem.
D) Demand that the original contract be presented to you so you can check its validity.

12053
"As you wish, sire." And thus extra number of festivals was to be hosted next year and numerous improvement projects are to be slated for the good of the Luathbas' people, all at the expense of the Treasury.

805 AD, Summer

"My liege! My liege!" A terrified messenger bursts into the throne room. "A d-dragon attacked the city of Einvad!"

"ANOTHER one!?"

"It's th-the same one from before! He again demands a fair maiden and half the kingdom's treasury if we want to see the city survive!!" The council convenes once again, and this time the dueling option is out...

The council debates the issue and decides to:

A) Find a fair maiden for the dragon and give him her along with half the Treasury's worth.
B) Request that the Army sets forth and slays the dragon.
C) Alas, the Crown can't hope to solve the dragon dilemma! May the gods have mercy on the souls of the soon-to-be incinerated citizens of Einvad.

12054
The Council is aghast when you announce that you shall personally fight the dragon.

They try to persuade you out of it but you decide otherwise.

Few days later you appear at the gates of City of Blich (or what's left of it) with your royal entourage, and challenge the dragon to a duel!

The Dragon roars in a laughing manner but accepts the duel.

Quote
4

You charge against the dragon and poke his leg with a lance, and he breathes fire at your direction. The cloud of flames engulfs your horse and sears your legs and face and hands. You tumble from the horse and then roll away while the few courageous squires pap you with snow to extinguish the flames.

You and your entourage then outrun another fiery breath of the creature, while the dragon roars in amusement.

As you return to the capital, you receive news that the dragon have completely wasted City of Blich and promised to be back later for more 'fun'.

Oh, and your subjects are very angry about how you handled this affair.

804 AD, Midwinter

The population censuses have been compiled; as prognosised during last year's harvest, the population did increase.

804 AD, End of the Year

The advisor arrives to help change your bandages and also present you the Scrolls of Kingdom Status, per usual this time of year:

Happiness: 2
Population: 4
Economy: 4
Army: 5

The advisor sighs and sets the scrolls aside.

"My liege, I cannot help but point out that general mood of the populace is rather low. There have been reports of some peasants turning to banditry and some city dwellers resorting to rioting. We can either turn part of the Army into the city and road guard to reign the unruly subjects in. Or we can thin our Treasury and host some entertaining venues and/or grandiose monuments to strengthen their belief in your rulership."

A) Turn a part of the Army into guards to enhance stability
B) Spend money on venues and festivals to appease the populace
C) Do nothing, as we might find a better way to solve this in the future

12055
Briefly, but only briefly, you are tempted to send the army, but decide otherwise.

804 AD, Winter

"A Dragon!?"

"I-I swear for me life, sirreh, a motherfucking DRAGON f-from the north is laying waste to th-the city of Blich!!" The terrified messenger barely spits the words out. "It demands a f-fair maiden and half the kingdom's treasury if we want th-the city to survive!!"

This is a very serious situation and therefore the council convenes with you. The decision is as follows:

A) Find a fair maiden for the dragon and give him her along with half the Treasury's worth.
B) Request that the Army sets forth and slays the dragon.
C) Personally set forth and challenge the dragon to a duel.!
D) Alas, the Crown can't hope to solve the dragon dilemma! May the gods have mercy on the souls of the soon-to-be incinerated citizens of Blich.

The commander grunts in response and then storms off from the throne room.

804 AD, Autumn

Spies bring interesting information about the Kingdom of Parsia in the east; apparently a civil war broke out there and the nearby province of Augas, with its central location and being a hub of trade routes, is weak and ripe for taking!

The advisor warns however that while Parsia might be weak now, they are known to be able to do some serious ass-kickings when angered.

A) Send the army to conquer Augas so we can get filthy rich!
B) We have enough problems to deal at home, let's stay put.
