The last time I sent a knight there he was murdered by Mongolian crossbowman ;v

Hopefully once I get Conscription and/or Metallurgy we will have enough lasting power in our units to take it.

13159
Sorry, but ze REICH is still polytheistic. As in we didn't get Monotheism yet, so we can't get Fundamentalism (and we don't have second req, Conscription, anyways) v;

13160
There's a new poll in case someone missed it ;v

Update 3: Frantic Survival (and 20 battles of Heidelburg)

So you can make peace with them next turn and then make me look like a warmonger or something like that? Pfft no, fuck off Caesar.

Did I mention today how I hate Caesar?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh whaddaya know, it's Rome itself that's sending ships.

Next turn Mongols declared war on us.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We ain't doing that well :I

Hopefully we will survive long enough to make some veteran Crossbowmen.

Next few turns are full of bloody Knight x Pikemen x Pikemen x Catapult action. Fortunately we repel all the attacks and even recapture our fortresses.

I stopped counting after the last one.

Aw yis. Time to slowly replace our Pikemen with the ultimate pre-gunpowder city guards!

Caesar just got 5 more points on 'how much Haspen hates you' scale.

HOW MUCH MONEY DOES HE HAVE!?!
Because of that our settlement of Heidelburg, staffed by a single Crossbowman, had to deal with a Knight, two Catapults, a Crossbowman, two Pikemen and a Roman Cataphract (where did they pull that one out?).

Miraculously it had survived.

At last, we have Gunpowder.

And someone has Metallurgy which renders our Great Middle Finger Wall no longer useful. That gave Romans and Mongols enough incentive to double attack Heidelburg.

After initial attacks the city was 1 turn away from getting a Musketeer, then our Crossbowman died and a wounded knight was poised to take the city. In a fit of panic, I've sent a nearby Settler on road to Heidelburg and he has just enough movement to get inside the city.

The knight attacked... and the Settler tanked him \o/
Next turn we got that Musketeer and all was well.

I think Mao took some jerkiness lessons from our buddy Caesar.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Couple of uneventful turns except Zulus and Mongols both making Wonders and boasting their techs to us (Zulus just discovered Atomic Theory).

That Mongol Frigate is actually a stack of four frigates that keep roaming in a line. I think Genghis wants to bombard Heidelburg but the ships cannot reach it so they just angrily surf on the coast.

It's 1790AD now, ze German reich is still alive and currently working on tenets of Democracy.

Update 2: They Keep Settling in that One Spot

Huh, took only 2 turns of Anarchy.
PS: Later on historian Livy finished his book on 'the largest civlizations'.... we were 4th.

Shaka tried to sneak a catapult but our Great Middle Finger Wall forced him to make peace. Also Greeks lost another city to Mongols.

Berlin finishes the Oracle! Theology is short-way on the tech tree from Mysticism BUT it's a dead-end tech so nobody forces you to research it, really (and it comes with its own unhapiness reducing Wonder anyways).

Good for them.

Their emissary visited me the very next year and we did this exchange. Alexander also asked for Trade tech and I gave him it.

I've sweetened the deal with University; then they gave us Banking as a gift when I asked. Three weakest nations bound together. UNDERDOG ALLIANCE!

We also got a bit of techs lately due to all those Libraries and Universities I've built.

<3

He asked for Banking, I gave him it.

After this trade, Caesar broke the alliance!

Fucker >:I

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This little city there resulted in Caesar declaring war at us and our government collapsing again.

Fortunately!

The REICHRITTER ensured that Ravenna will never again cause any trouble.

There goes our waterfall of monies. This also prompted Mongols to switch from this to Leonardo's Workshop.
PS: They finished it about 5 turns later. RIP.

WELL DON'T PLACE CITIES IN THAT SPOT AND IT WON'T BE A PROBLEM!?

Alexander is a true buddy when you're at equal footing with him. Next turn, Romans sue for peace.

Also, because Privateering tech came up on the 'next topic' window, I will show Privateer unit for ya because I don't think we will get it otherwise:

So yeah, they hit like a Legion and can strike right from the ship. Unfortunately they make for lousy defenders. But I had fun capturing coastal cities with them when playing as Carthage in that 'post-Alexander' scenario that comes with Civ2.

And yes that's a parrot on his arm.

Don't die on me, Alexander.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's about time we begun exploring the seas. Romans are sending catamarans and triremes my way and I wanna know from where.

We will find out in next update I guess!

13164
Eh sure, we will start today.

13165
Update 1: REICHRITTER OF ZE GERMAN REPUBLIK!

A little comfort because Mongols just finished Sun Tzu's Academy meaning every land unit of theirs is going to be produced as Veteran from start.
RNG have mercy on their neighbours (and us).

Beelining for some techs.

HOW!?

From what I remember about starting positions on Andala this means that Zulus crawled through whole continent and then captured a Greek city on a hilly peninsula.

That's it. I know how the future will unfold: The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. Zulus vs Mongols. Who will win? No fucking idea, we will be probably dead already by then!

Mongols might have Knights, but at least we have SCIENCE Not really, we were ranked 7th in the just-published list of 'most advanced civs' by historian Bede.

THE END IS NEAR.
PS: After losing 2 Phalanxes and almost having Leipzig razed to dust, a lucky Horseman bested that Knight.

Fuck civilized behaviour.

Time for heavy-duty horsing.

Middle finger for anyone who enters negotiations with me.

Senate did eh. Unhappy Mongols declared war against Romans a split-turn later. We live \o/

...They declared war on me again 5 turns later. And brought an army.

But you know what?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The peninsula was Mongol-Free on 880AD. 4 Knights and 3 Catapults ded by our REICHKATAPHRAKTEN!

And you see that guy? That's a fucking Reichritter (a Knight). We caught up in military tech. Also Berlin is making up Oracle wonder that will double our Temple effect.

K-ching! More money means more REICHRITTER!

Or actually I commissioned a Diplomat. The Romans get techs from Mongols occassionally and it's about time they shared them with us, consent or no consent.

DANKE GOTT IN HIMMEL for Greeks! Not only we traded these techs, they gave us Map Making for free! One reliable friend in the swarm of bloodthirsty murderers.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There. This is our fucking defense perimeter comprised of rough terrain and VETERAN REICHRITTER! We will expand slowly in that direction by making more cities. Our Diplomats in the meanwhile will swindle anything valuable from our so-called 'friends' the Romans.

Fuck! We might not be best Civ in 2020AD but I ain't gonna die out before that time!

See? We got this.

Eh you can go fu-

Oops. I forgot Senate is a thing.

Will the glorious REICHRITTER be enough to secure the border? Will Mr.Frederick get his nation up to 2020AD in one piece?? Find out in next episode!

Update 0: A Terrible Case of Deja Vu

Difficulty!

Neat starter techs!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Capital at the coast!

Horseback Riding for fast scouts/village-grabs!

Awww sweet, we found a Chariot!

Who quickly finds scrolls with Bronze Working secrets.

Oh this playthrough is gonna be fun.

We meet Romans.

One tech trade and alliance signing later, I cautiously ask for a gift and we receive Masonry. Coolio.

Well shit, guess whom I met after going eastwards from Roman territories?

PRAISE THE MURDER \o/
PS: He demanded 200 gold and declared war on me.

HOW DO THEY HAVE FEUDALISM ALREADY!?!
Also Romans broke the alliance and kicked my horsemen out. Dammit.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our horseman found an advanced city.

It's Konigsberg.

In the same spot.

...

* Haspen hums X-Files theme.

I'm not sure this will go any better than previously.

* Haspen prepares his sarcophagus just in case I:

13167
Sure we will restart. I was just modding my mod further (+pirates, +zeppelins, and some tech fixings).

I will keep the Hordes on but will lower the difficulty to Prince.

13168
With constant barrage of 3 different civilizations' armies? No I didn't.

Especially that, after I found out the hard way, the coast was patrolled by like bajillion Mongolian ships.

13169
Yeah I derped there by not expanding a bit before the Wonder. Old habit :P

13170
Update 1 (and last, lol): To the Brink and Beyond

Aw yiss, our horseman found a Legion in a village. We will use it for... something. Defense maybe.

Fast forward to 75BC while we scout and dig roads; and Russian woes continue.

Also I forgot to screenshot a funny quip; about the Chinese starting Great Wall project. PS: There were further quips about both Aztecs and Carthaginians working on the Colossus.

Oh dear. Shortly after the de-settled Leipzig settlers founded Hamburg just south of Berlin, we got a visit from Mongols! Of course I rejected - of course they declared war.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Eh, if this was the same peninsula... but I will scuttle Konigsberg and transport the settlers via Catamaran to our land.

Oh wow that was fast.
PS: Another quip about Lighthouse, being started by Japanese. I think that's all 7 Civs accounted for now.

AAAAH! There is a Mongol Cataphract. And it's coming for us ;n;

4 Phalanxes later, the veteran Cataphract captures Hamburg after almost turning it to rubble. Is there anything worse than this?

Comrade, no ;n;

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Mongols AND Barbarians!?
halp ;___;

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

This is it. The last German city. And to think I was going to scuttle it. CAN WE GET BACK FROM THE BRINK!?

Of course not, but let's see how long we survive.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Um, it will be rather short survival, methinks.

Another Cataphract was on its way to Konigsberg before I noticed it was orange. Carthaginians gave us Monarchy and became our allies. The legions that threatened the city were tanked by our Phalanx (and a lucky one it was).

*sniff* Those were good times.

This happened.
And then they declared war on us as well.
And then on Mongols.

...

. . .

.   .   .

They continue to harass us.

They continue to lose.

New dangers emerge.

Centuries pass.

Our enemies continue to grow.

And they will continue to grow, but...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

ZE GERMAN REICH SHALL PREVAIL.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

FOR CENTURIES TO COME.

...Wait a moment.

What is this magic that our humble Diplomat has brought??

*k-chk*

Ze Reich vill be back.

As a Reichthorn in Russian side!!

...

Or not.

Because Mongol bombers&tanks happened in 1959AD.

~FIN?~
