"So I was wondering... did you know my predecessor? The mysterious S'tivan."

"Oh, a Caninoid. You know, fluffy tail, canine ears, a gene-mod by birth. He was your predecessor right when EXO-Lumina's mercenary fleet were waging war in Zanzibar. He had it rough in here, but I think the local Exofficer had a soft spot for him, and he for her. One way or another he avoided getting kidnapped or forced into slavery."

"Obviously, he isn't a bartender anymore." Eccite rolls her eyes.

"Ah, yeah, you didn't hear that story. Well, one day he decided he likes his corporate lady more than our corporate ladies, so he decided to abandon the outpost."

"We can leave at any time."

"Yeah. But before he left, he invited his EXO-Lumina girlfriend and her buddies over and they siphoned the fuel tanks dry. Like, there's enough fuel in these tanks to support a battle squadron for a month's worth of operations. SRC accounting estimated five million credits of loss from that alone, not to mention they had to buy and transport new fuel to refill the tanks when they found the new bartender for this outpost." Eccite shrugs.

"As far I know, Fedpol is still searching for S'tivan. Well, if anyone's asking me, he's either already several sectors away from here, or got dumped, or worse, by his EXO-Lumina girl and her friends, when war turned bad for them. Probably the latter, someone would hear something already if he was still alive. So moral of the story for you is, don't get hooked with crazy chicks in power, and don't steal corporate shit." The Chief types something on her datapad.

"Well, these are almost done..." She muses to herself.

Eccite will soon move on to help rest of the crew with their work.

A) Ask about info on current affairs within Zanzibar Sector.
B) Offer to help her engineers out! They have the knows, you have the hands - this can only end well!
C) Ask about Employee Classes and synthol reimbursement.
D) Ask about... (insert topic you might find important here)

"Do you know anything about the transmission spam from the local satellite?" Eccite perks up.

"Oh, what now, what transmission spam?"

"There's a science satellite orbiting Beta Carotenii I, the gas giant. At about 1504 hours, it is sending transmission spam that clogs my communications for a while. Nothing dangerous - I think - but highly annoying." Eccite props her chin on her fist, and spends few moments thinking.

"I don't remember whose satellite it is, but I think its some research and development corp? I will send a note about that to someone in Zanzibar to get that stuff checked. In the meanwhile, I would suggest changing your subspace radio frequency to something else, did you try that already?"

"Yes, to S-MAIN."

"And?" You shrug.

"No idea, did that yesterday, will see today if that prevents the comms block." Eccite nods, and returns to her reports.

"Good luck."

"You want a drink?" Eccite looks at you briefly, then back at her datapad.

"Sure. Skinjuice." You nod and pour her a shot of Skinjuice. She lets you scan her credchip, of course.

There's a beep.

SRC Employee First Class ID confirmed.
Synthol purchase reimbursed.

No good deed goes unpunished, it seems. Eccite downs the shot in one go, puts the glass down, and returns to typing out her reports on her datapads.

Have a soundtrack to read the rules with.

A new mechanic has been added: Generals. You get them at start, get them passively, you can spend Rice to get some; you can lose them ignobly and in droves, if you're not careful. They get you bonuses to Conquests and Defenses, but dare you leave them with little Rice, banking that their Skill Levels will carry out your plans instead?

Addition of Generals have influenced Schools of Thought: Legalists start with 2 Generals extra instead of +5 Rice; Confucian bonus now includes cheaper General recruitment, too.

Spoiler: Rules (click to show/hide)

Warlordlist:
1. Maximum Spin, Taoist Chu
2. Kashyyk, Mohist Song
3. notquitethere, Legalist Qi
4. Unraveler, Confucian Shu
5.
6.?
7.?
8.?
9.?
10.?

Due to his behavior during other strategy games I have hosted, TricMagic is banned from playing.

You gotta pick only one option, Dustan :P

1328
//I have corrected previous posts because I mixed up the fuel pumps, gotta have that stuff correct :P

"What the fuck?" You say, convicingly surprised. "Does it have the tools?"

"Oh, yeah, is it, like... dressed in SRC uniform, guys? It has tools or any shit like that?"

Quote
"Well... it wears a jumpsuit. Like, civilian stuff. No tools, boss."

"Uh-huh. Do not touch anything in there and just log this in. Like, fuck, that will be some paperwork to do... and I bet I will have some talk overs to do with at least--"

Quote
"Boss, Arek says the medcorder has finished its dna scan and apparently nothing on SRC personnel files, so, em, well, this guy ain't one of our dudes. No cybernetic implants or even wetware in the skull to check, either."

"Right. Right, well, fuck, do not touch anything in there, put a seal on the maintenance door, and, well, come back here, you will help with the neons. I will have to send a report of this to Zanzibar HQ and the Fedpols in Poseidonis."

Quote
"Got it chief."

Eccite closes the connection and pockets the communicator, placing her hands on her waist.

"Fuck, I ain't got time for all this." Eccite mulls the situation over, staring at the floor. "Right, Arnold, well, we can't remove the body because if it ain't SRC person then it means it is a civilian and if it is a civilian in a restricted maintenance area, well, then it is murder, one way or another."

"You're calling in the New Galactic Federation's Police?"

"I have to report this, of course, but what with the Feds in Poseidonis still repairing their old space fortress and Zanzibar being not very safe yet, yeah, I hope you can deal with a skeleton in your closet, well, fuel pump, for some... time. And you two, back to work!" Eccite turns to yell at the two engineers, who quickly resume working on the neons.

Eccite pulls out a datapad from her coat and starts typing - rather slowly, and still rather wide-eyed.

You think this is perfect opportunity to...

A) Offer Eccite a drink!
B) Ask about your mysterious predecessor, bartender S'tivan.
C) Ask about info on current affairs within Zanzibar Sector.
D) Offer to help her engineers out! They have the knows, you have the hands - this can only end well!
E) Ask if she knows about the transmission spam from the local satellite.

1329
"Sure thing!"

"Cool beans. As for the tools, I think I could find a spare toolkit. I'm surprised you've been working with a screwdriver and a tricorder only, there should be a full set of tools in the bartender's quarters."

"I don't think I've seen anything in there." Eccite purses her lips.

"Perhaps S'tivan helped himself to the stuff before he deserted the post. Well, like I said, I will get you some, you should at least have an acoustic sensor, portable fatigue scanner, a laser welder and maybe I could get you--"

A serie of 'bee-boo-beeps' comes from Eccite's pocket, and she pulls out a small communicator. She brings it closer to her face and pushes a button.

"Eccite here."

Quote
"Yo, err, boss, like, we have found the problem with the tenth pump, and, um, you're not gonna believe this shit, but--"

"Get to the point! It's the power couplings, isn't it?"

Quote
"Em, well, geez, technically yes, boss, but, well, its not the power couplings per se, it's just that, err, there's, like, an old, yellowed skeleton lodged between the--"

"Wait wait WAIT, what the FUCK, the fuck are you saying, what, did you say skeleton, like, a fucking human skeleton??" Eccite looks at you, dumbstruck. The engineers working at the neons stopped their work, staring at their boss.

Quote
"I told you she won't believe it! Like, boss, it's wedged between the power coupling A3 and the control panel, and, uh, few of power cables are off their sockets and are tangled around it and like its left arm is, uh, it has been rammed through the control panel and I'm pretty sure it damaged the processor unit so, well, we gotta replace it, if we can extract the, well, the skeleton, so, yeah. Arek has a medical tricorder so he is trying to extract the dna sample to at least determine who the hell this is!"

The engineering chief stares at you wide-eyed.

A) "That's not mine!"
B) Shrug. "I'm here for two days, go figure."
C) "I'm innocent, I didn't have a bone to pick with anyone yet!"
D) What-the-fuck along.

1330
"Is it hard to replace things on the station? I mean, if I had more technical expertise and some proper tools rather than just a tricorder and pair of screwdrivers, I'm plenty sure I could manage some repairs myself."

"For the technical manuals you would need to visit and bother the SRC Engineering Master at Zanzibar Regional Headquarters but in mutual interest of us having a little less load on our shoulders, I think I could arrange you some datapads. Perhaps it will even help you pass the time on the outpost without going crazy because compared to bartending manuals and encyclopedias these are quite boring and long. Given your troubles I think you would be interested in some basic power network and maybe control panel schematics and maintenance manuals, correct?"

A) "Sure thing!"
B) "How about something else? I won't need computer and power network stuff if you guys are fixing these right now."
C) "Eh, reading is not my thing, thanks."

1331
Smart. Its an option now.

1332
You contact Eureka.

Quote
"Engineering Chief Eccite Muli here. Whom am I speaking with?"

"Arnold, bartender."

Quote
"Ah, the new guy. You've sent the maintenance request, hm. Yeah. I can see it would warrant priority tag from Zanzibar..."

"I have prepared a full log of damage that requires repair."

Quote
"Wait, you mean there's more broken shit on your outpost than just what the request is telling me?"

"Unfortunately, yes." There's a slight pause before the lady on the other side slowly inhales.

Quote
"...did you attempt any repairs by yourself?"

"Yes."

You hear a loud 'thud' on the other side of the hail.

Quote
"Okay, fine, alright, let's, let's do it. Send the logs so I can look at them. Eureka over."

You tap away on the console to send the logs.

1236USY.3d/1m.0113h

Eureka confirms receiving the logs.

You receive a hail few seconds later.

Quote
"Oh for fuck's sake, man! I have six people and four hours before I gotta make way for the outpost at Gamma Urquanii. This ain't, well, fuck, okay, maybe we can do it in four hours, but, man, why... buh! Eureka over."

What a pleasant woman.

You make your way to the bar.

1236USY.3d/1m.0121h

The security console notifies you that Eureka has docked with the outpost.

Soon enough, its crew enters the main hall through the gate; three men and one woman in jumpsuits, two men in spacesuits with their helmets off, and a tired looking lady in engineer's garb with a coat on her arms. She has short, white hair, green eyes and lips seemingly twisted in permament scowl.

She and her crew look over the main hall, which makes the white-haired woman put her hands on her waist in consternation.

"Right, Robert and Chim, you just start on the airlocks and docking clamps, then go for micrometeorite damage if you've got time. Tim and Lesbie, I want you two on the neons and I will join you after a talk with our bartender friend here. Kira and Arek, you two check the internals on the tenth pump, try to find out what's wrong, call me if its power couplings." The group responds with 'yes, chief!' and scatters; all, except the two engineers who begin accessing the neons control panels on the side, leave through the main gate.

The white-haired woman makes her way to the bar and takes a seat, staring at you with a curious mix of defeat and contempt in her eyes.

"Nice to meet you, Arnold. Eccite Muli." She extends her hand towards you, and you shake it in archaic greeting.

"Alright, so, first of all - first try to fix stuff on your own, then send a maintenance request, okay? Because, the SRC AI controls the schedules, not us, based on the maintenance requests sent over. Like, fuck, they should've told you when you got yourself employed. Whatever. So the clamps and door control, two hours at least for my boys, if the fuel pump was shot through then no way we can get it fixed today, but maybe its just hull damage, we will see, and the neons shouldn't take long unless the main power unit was fried... and if the side corridors are on auxiliary power, then that's quite possibly what it is, fuck... no idea about the tenth pump, it has given S'tivan issues too, uh, I hate deep space outposts, I really do, but what can you do, right? I can only hope four-four-six will actually not have any surprises for us today..."

A) Offer her a drink!
B) "I can assist your team if you're strapped for time."
C) Just nod along and let her talk.
D) Inquire about technical knowledge and acquisition of tools so that you can do proper repairs yourself.

1333
You decide to make a round around the station, checking for damage, maintenance errors and broken-down items.

1236USY.3d/1m.0110h

You finish your rounds.

You note down that Fuel Pump #10 is offline for six years now for no apparent reason. That Fuel Pump #9 was damaged by micrometeorite impact two days before your arrival and its docking mechanism is shot. That the neon lights in the main hall exploded when connected to the power grid, and that you installed a shoddy bypass to keep the main lightning on whilst other parts of station are on auxiliary lights. That the door control system in entirety of East Wing, serving Fuel Pumps #1, #2 and #3 has malfunctioned (and that several of their docking clamps are stuck in 'closed' position) and has been put on manual. That the door control's control panel has been fried accidentally.

And just in time, because the sensor console starts pinging!

Having nothing else to do, you enter the comand room to check it.

Sensors Station Alert! IFF beacon translation in progress...

Done!

"SRC-M Eureka", a Galena-class Engineering Barge, is approaching from the direction of Poseidonis Jump Gate.

SRC Credentials Broadcast received.

SRC Credentials confirmed: Priority Team Eureka en route to station.

Automated Arrival Report sent to SRC Regional Headquarters at Zanzibar IIIa.

Docking Port assigned: #8 (authority: Automated Refueling AI)

Estimated arrival time: 10 minutes.

You wonder if there's any reason to hail them.

A) Hail them anyway.
B) Just get yourself ready.

1334
You did, on page 2, few posts under synthol listing :P

1335
"Thank you for dropping by, please come again." Sieverta nods and leaves the bar, making her way to the main gate and through it.

1236USY.2d/1m.2155h

After cleaning up the bar and making sure on the sensors console that no ship is approaching (and Speed Junkie makes it way towards Poseidonis Jump Gate), you turn off the lights and head for your quarters.

Yawning and rubbing your eyes some, you enter the tank bed, adjust the timer setting and resume your sleep.

Congratulations! Bartender Arnold earned 400 Credits today! His monthly total so far is 1497 Credits!

A new day at Galactic Refueling Otupost 254831 begins...

1236USY.3d/1m.0035h

The circuits of the tank bed wake you up from your slumber as the bed itself opens to the dim light of your bedroom.

After stretching a little, you feel a bit of a hunger. You connect your feeding slot with the tube to the nutrition dispenser, idly watching the white-ish sludge being directly pumped into your digestive system. Once this little 'meal' is over, you pace to the bar and set it up for the day.

1236USY.3d/1m.0045h

Once all is set and prepared, you decide to go to the command center and check the sensors just in case: no ships inbound for the station, and not a ping of impulse drives within Beta Carotenii system itself.

You hum, wondering how much time you have before Priority Team Eureka of the SRC Maintenance shows up.

Few minutes? An hour, or maybe several??

A) Just enough time to read some bartending trivia and lore!
B) Just enough time to go about the station and see what's broken!
C) Just enough time to read some Captain Zirconius series!
