"Inevitably Successful in All Circumstances? It's a bontiful name if we start doing mercenary work, or courier runs, or take on some other occupation of similar nature." Richard chimed in after he finally emerged from the 'depths' of the voidcraft.

Update 4: Of Technologies and Wonders

I forgot to make a screenshot, but two turns later, Shanghai finishes Great Library. The wonder 'copies' a tech developed by 2 other Civilizations and passes it to you for free.

We develop Horse Equipment! This grants us access to Cataphract and Horse Archer, two new units of my mod:

Spoiler: Horse Archer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Cataphract (click to show/hide)

As you can see, with 3 Movement (only Tanks and Mechanized Infantry muuuch higher on tech tree have 3 Mov), Horse Archers are perfect for early-game rush, and can easily grab undefended cities, outrun pursuers, snipe caravans/settlers in transit. Unfortunately, they suck against anything with decent defense rating and/or sitting behind City Walls.

Cataphract is a decent unit for both offense and defense. It's a bit costly, though; and if you're familiar with vanilla Civ2, you will notice it's basically a Knight with 1 Attack point less (Knights even replace Cataphracts once you research Chivalry).

Great Library is already stealing techs procuring scrolls of wisdom for us.

Mr.Herodotus here is only half-right: by 'most powerful' Civilization 2 calls 'civilization with the numerically largest army'. So if you have 30 Cavalry and your enemy has 10 Tanks, you will show up as first; even if the Tanks can smush the Cavalry into paste.

Still, it's a good reminder that we should make a few more defensive units.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And our settler unit gets to a super spot that Catamaran found much earlier; Bananas and Fish (up&right) give Hangchow extra food production; Whales (down) increased both Shields and Tax, and Gemstones (left) greatly boost income. This city has great chances to become one of our most productive cities later on.

The Bridge Building is one of most important techs ever. Before this, your unit reached end of a road, spent whole turn moving onto a river, and then another turn moving from the river onto the road. Now we can lay roads over river and thus create a continuous network for fast unit movement!

Unfortunately, University didn't show up on the list of available topics; so I went with Astronomy. It unlocks Copernicus' Observatory wonder, which boosts the city's Science by 50%.

All this urban expansion and tech-rushing and building wonders gave me few extra upgrades to Throne Room, which now looks like this. Soon we will be getting our marble columns and other fancy decorations.

In the meanwhile, I spent some cash to get extra Phalanxes in our cities, especially the ones westwards, close to Greeks and Indians.

Just as I set Beijing to start constructing Great Wall (even if Aztecs finish first, we can still use the accumulated Shields for some other Wonder) we received The Wheel from the Great Library.

Eh, you can't build every Wonder! Vikings got the Colossus, which boosts trade in every tile around the city with it in it. This prompted Aztecs to switch from their own Colossus to The Lighthouse. For some reason they also abandoned Great Wall project. We can build it ourselves without worry, ha ha!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At the end of this update have a view of all those cities and settlers we have. Chinese people will be in every corner of Asia very soon. Muahahaha.

13222
I prefer building Colloseums (3 people made content, +1 with Electronics) than Cathedrals (4 people made content, -1 with Communism) anyways :P

Plus I will try to get either Michelangelo's Chapel (free Cathedrals in every city you own) or J.S.Bach's Cathedral (2 unhappy guys made content in every city you own on the continent). Maybe even both.

Update 3: Birth of the Expansive Chinese Republic

The circle of Elderly Observers have decided that we should pursue peaceful overtones with the Indians and their leader, Mahatma Gandhi.

Meanwhile,

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another remote village joins our nation. As the Pyramids near completion, our policy will change as well - we shall go with expansion as the proper Chinese go. Cities, cities, cities.

There we go. Time to spawn some settlers.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh right, when you do a lot of conquering or wonder-building, you can get throne room upgrade. I exchange my flat rock for a chair! Much better for my spine, ya'know?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dammit. As I mentioned in earlier update, sometimes you get barbarians out of the ruins. This happened. I don't give him much chance, even if he is on a hill.

PS: He managed to kill 3 and the rest went toward Nanking, so I rushed a Phalanx there. Nanking stands!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It is time. Settlers!

Oh hi Gandhi. Yeah why not.

...Where was I? Oh right.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cities!

Oh yeah, we get a free technology! I've decided to go with The Republic.

It is time of revolutioooon babe-h!

Republics boost up income, luxuries and sciences but are pretty corrupt when your empire gets too large. It also features the Senate that can butt its way into your peace treaties and war plans.

Few turns later we switch to Republic. Look at that income. As Despotism we had 6 income, now we have 11.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The expansion strategy in the works. All those cities and roads and irrigation so far. We will double that.

And then double that.

...In other news, earlier I noticed a quip about Aztecs building a Great Wall. So we have Gandhi the nukemaster, Alexander the armyboy, Vikings the murderers AND Aztecs the crazy. Russians are dead, and we're the teal color on the map.

The only color unaccounted for is green. That could be Japanese, which they cannot be because we are right next to Japan and we would be seeing them by now for sure. The other possibility is Babylonians. However, our horseman scouted Mesopotamia and found no trace of Babylonians so it can only be...

Zulus.

We're doing the sciency quest on a map full of genocidal crazies. GAME WHY.

13224
Never really played it but that could be a nice continuation.

I will consider eet :V!

13225
And the thief was dealt with.

Quote from: Elanore vs Thief C
Hit: 114+5-55 = 64
Hit roll: 11, hit!
Damage: 28-7 = 21dmg

Update 2: First Contact(s)

It's the Greeks!

So far they are nice...

And they just get into technological trade right away. They seem to be more religion-inclined as they had Ceremonial Burial, Mysticism AND Polytheism discovered. I have exchanged our secrets of Writing and Bronze Working in exchange for the first two, but declined the offer of Polytheism (they wanted Literacy).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

(full image of the fancy Greek emblem screen!)
Why, yes! We will happily agree (mostly because I don't like archers at my borders).

How about an alliance? Let's be friends and-

Aww.

The Greek archer then went back westwards. As Emperor Alexander wasn't inclined to share his map with us, I will send one of horsemen west as well to gather some information.

PS: Just before the contact I decided to be on safe-side again and spent some cash and rushed a Phalanx in Shanghai.

6 or so turns of basically nothing exciting happening, our horseman that was sent northwards found Currency scrolls in a village.

Two turns later and he found Map Making as well. It's the same horseman that found all those Elephants. That guy's on a roll :V!

Meanwhile our little two cities continue to slowly thrive. Shanghai is building Great Library... not really to steal techs BUT to deny this benefit to other Civs. Yes I'm a mean douche like that, ehehehe.

Mr.Gibbon-whoever-that-is finished his book. We're first in techs. Greeks are second.

No wonder considering we didn't discover any other Civilizations, duh.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Few more turns later our brave horseman found an advanced village... in middle of Siberian taiga.

The thick forest all around the place will provide a neat Shield production but on other hand, the city won't grow that well with so little arable land around. We might need to-

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

AAAAHH dammit. Prior to this little barbarian party I saw them mutilate that Greek archer who was camping in the middle of the hills apparently.

Damn you Alexander, I bet you planned this from start.

Fortunately, this is where that Phalanx I rushed paid for himself; he easily tanked all three Horsemen with only minor damage and got promoted to Veteran unit; this gives a +50% modifier to his Attack and Defense ratings.

After centuries of sailing around the islands in the south, the Catamaran and his trusted Elephant found these scrolls with Construction technology. The islands themselves have little special resources; only few bananas for extra food production. Time to get them westwards I guess and explore the coastline.

Aw shit. We lost the Catamaran and his buddy the Elephant. That's what I get when I try to rush the oar ships through sea.

I mean it's only 50% chance (half that with Seafaring, further half that with Navigation) but the RNG wasn't on my side this time.

Gandhi is on the map.

Gandhi is on the map!

TO THE FALLOUT SHELTERS!!

After a brief discussion and exchange of our Map Making for his Warrior Code, I teach them Mysticism as well and this made them friendly enough to share their maps with us.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And indeed Indians are right next to us, with Himalayas as the natural border.

Merciful God of Civilization, protect us from Gandhi and the nukes.

...but he has only 2 cities. And we have Elephants. What do we do? Do we try to get to SPEEEHS before Gandhi gets to nukes, or do we take a more blunt approach to this dilemma??

I shall host a poll! Please don't get me killed.
