//I've noticed graphics were a bit fuzzy and turns out I was playing at zoom. Standard zoom was applied so the world map things might look a bit smaller compared to Update 0, oops!

Update 1: Exploration, Expansion, Encounters!

By year 3800BC we finish researching Horseback Riding, just as Beijing conveniently finished that Catamaran. Now we will scout both land and the coastline.

You might notice Horse Equipment; it's a custom tech I added. Normally, to research Chivalry, you ned Feudalism and Horseback Riding. In my mod, you need Horse Equipment and Feudalism. We will get to Horse Equipment details later, once we research it.

Writing + Code of Laws (which we started with) => Literacy.
Ceremonial Burial => Mysticism.
Mysticism + Literacy => Philosophy.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our Catamaran was sent southwards along the coast for the next few turns, discovering a village. Now it is 3640BC and our Horseman unit is on his way to the village!

PSYCH!!

Well. Cash is always neat, but early game you don't have a lot of it so this is a relatively significant boost. Later on however 50 gold might not be as useful as, say, free tech or a developed town.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Few turns later, while our Catamaran manages to not sink after some dumb moves, our horseman stumbled upon 2nd village. This one had mercenary unit of Elephant. This thing has 4 attack and basically can stomp any unit and easily conquer cities till your enemies get a good defensive unit (pikeman, for example) behind some City Walls or on a hill. Elephants also cost quite a bunch so a free one is truly a good fortune.

However for now we will use him for scouting alongside our Horseman.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our brave horseman stumbled upon advanced tribe; this earns us a city, Shanghai. Unfortunately, it's just 1 population without anything inside, but hey, free city!

Bunch of uneventful turns pass.

Then our brave horseman stumbles upon a village containing scrolls with secrets of Bronze Working. Phalanx are best Ancient-time units for defense; putting them behind City Walls renders the city very resistant to anything weaker than Catapults. Elephants might have a chance, though.

And while our brave horseman finds all the goodies, the Elephant stumbles in some jungles and the Catamaran sails around buncha islands in South East Asia. You would think they would try to be like Horseman but no.

Our horseman was a bit down on the luck, as the (yet another) village he stumbled on was empty. This happens very infrequently, but does happen.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Catamaran finds a village on an island. Fortunately, the Elephant we found earlier is nearby so they gonna team up for some spelunking!

In the meanwhile, the brave Horseman finds another Elephant unit in a village north of Beijing. Unfortunately, 2 Elephants, the horseman and the Catamaran consume 3 shields, so we gonna send that new Elephant to the city for disbanding; this will relieve some upkeep and speed up construction of Pyramids a little bit.

PS: Next turn Catamaran+Elephant team discover 50 gold in that island village.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Okay Horseman, I know you like to make buddies with everyone but please stop! That's yet another unit straining Beijing's supplies, and the Pyramids are now trickling 1 Shield per turn. Jesus Christ will be born faster than we finish them at this rate. Archers gotta be disbanded too.

Or actually, I will have Beijing stop using one of grassland tiles (2 food, 1 shield) and get supplies from that one Forest adjacent to it (1 food, 2 shields). This way I can keep the Archers as Beijing's garrison. 3 atk, 2 def is nothing to sneeze at this early in the game.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Shanghai's horseman found some Settlers! We will use them to build a road between our two cities and irrigate some tiles for extra food production.

DUN DUN DUNNNN!

Who are they? Are they gonna murder us or are they friendly? We have no soldiers in Shanghai whatsoever, so this might be a tough situation...

...perfect moment for a commercial break! Cya in next update!

//Disclaimer: Full-window screenshots will be spoilered; singular windows with descriptions, etc. will be un-spoilered as they don't take that much viewing space.

Update 0: The set-up and the arrival on Earth!

With Earth (large variant) as our map, we delve right in.

Chieftain has really dumb AI while Prince and above scares me. We will be playing as Warlord. For other things, we also gonna have 6 Civilizations along with us and Barbarians are set to Roving Bands.

Ah yes, the options. As we're going to SPEEEHS, this cannot be Bloodlust game. We could go safe and just pick Civs far away/not really militaristic ones, but let's trust RNG on this (inb4 Zulus and Aztecs and Indians at our doorstep).

Oh, man, sweet!. As I love to hoard ALL THE WONDERS, this means we can go for Pyramids (free, non-expiring Granaries in every city you own? yes pls). In the meanwhile, we're two techs ahead to Philosophy (grants 1 free tech for first Civ to discover it), which by itself is prerequisite for University, the 2nd research building.

I have a feeling we can power-research ourselves into SPEEEHS!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And here we start. I guess that one on the left is Takla Makan desert, so we will be going eastwards. Access to the sea is always neat.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After we got to the coastline, our brave settlers founded Beijing. This is the city window, where you can see your current food, luxury, taxes and shield production. The more food you get, the faster your population grows, luxuries keep them happy, taxes earn your cash, and shields are used for creation of military units, buildings and Wonders.

For now I will bet my money that we don't have bloodthirsty neighbours as Mongols or Indians, and will go with a Catamaran; first of custom units in my mod.

We will be using that to scout the coastline a bit, find some good spots for new cities. This unit is basically pre-Trireme transport, and is very cheap to make.

It also sinks when you sneeze at it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And after you settle your first city, you gotta pick a research. To get Philosophy, we need Ceremonial Burial, however, Horseback Riding gives you access to Horsemen; who are best for scouting and finding villages (that's it, before Seafaring, which gives you Explorer unit, who treats every land tile as road), so we will be researching that first.

Villages in Civ2 provide you with a free tech, a small amount of cash, already established city with some population, a no-upkeep band of settlers or an slightly advanced military unit...

...on the downside, a village has a small chance to spawn 8 barbarian units around your hapless scout. But that's rare.

There won't be anything interesting happening so let's skip few turns and-

THE GAME STARTED FIVE TURNS AGO WHAT THE HECK

Maybe we should've went with domination goal, guys.

I just decided to toss a coin and do a little fiddling with outside help of another forumite.

Turns out we will be going to SPEEEEHS and get to Alpha China-tauri first .<'!

Starting soon!

13234
I can't mobe before CE heals me v:

...aren't we actually waiting for Swordstar herself?

13235
I appreciate time travel noise RP.

But I appreciate actual actions to go along with them more .<'!

13236
I'll take Heaven. That 10% defence growth is really putting some work in, though.

>10% in DEF, scores 2 out of 4
>30% in RES, not even once

Welcome to RNG of FEF!

Welcome on the crazy train, Deus Asmoth, your place is secured into Chapter 6 V:

EDIT: I will do affinity rolls and level-ups for Lars and Curua tomorrow.

Okay I will be honest and say that both sheets are looking fine, and as Pencil_Art didn't get his sheet in order, I'm basically down to tossing a coin...
