"Consider yourselves hired, then. Let's go, I don't wanna leave that man alone... he a bit cr- stupid." And so Odysios left the inn, with newly hired mercenaries in tow...

---

"I don't know yet. Possibly some free supplies and maybe other things. The castle is five minutes away, so I don't think-" Suddenly, in broad daylight, three swordsmen and a robed man surrounded Prince Titon and his few bodyguards. Titon placed his hand on his ornate knife as the man rubbed a small crystal in his palm.

"Hello. Do we know each other?"

"You won't live long enough to know me." A bolt of dark wind went at Titon, who ducked in the last moment.

"Assasins, okay, I think I will be going the other WAY!"

---

A well-groomed, foreign-looking, imperial officer slid his hand into his pocket, noticing a small crystal shining briefly.

"Meraviglioso! That Salvar man found the target. Riders, fly forward!"

---

Similarily, a small gemstone embedded in a gauntlet of a burly knight shone with dim light.

"So our target has been located. Soon, SOON I will be revered as a hero, ha, hahah!"

"Allright, Lizbeth can go too. A flier means a fast escape if things go wrong. Captain Orena, please, um..." By now Titon noticed that most of his entourage, despite the plan to 'stick together', spread thorough the area.

"I think Niccola and Alice went to weaponsmith there so keep an eye on them?" Titon didn't wait for Captain Orena to protest and left with Lizbeth, Sen and Lian-Ziu northwards.

@Iolani:

Iolani finished her first step on the goal of obtaining all the shinies.

@ElBanditos:

"Oh, a mage, good. We're terribly lacking in magicians. So y'all traveling together I presume?"

@Vera:

Vera found an apothecary just over the brook.

@2men1boy:

"Well the guy in question can handle his knives and the amount of people who so far went after his head could garrison a castle or two, so yeah, I'm guessing it's exciting enough." Odysios rubbed his nose.

"He needs few more bodyguards to get him to Carn Fortress and he asked for axemen so. Lamb-eyes can come along, provided he can fight?"

Within minute, the tide have turned against the Imperial volunteers; first sight of trouble was when Alphanti tried his chances against Bob the Brute and failed, only in turn to be assaulted by Old General Henderson. Few blows later, the sword of the General struck his foe in the neck, killing him instantly.

Tallow Knight in vain tried to score a hit because his hatchet once again ineffectively scraped against those darned chainmails. Right afterwards the murderous Vurt-e attacked Tallow Knight and pricked him on the neck, giving Tallow Knight yet another wound to be worried about.

Lance Corporal Mooning in the meanwhile have chosen a target at random and that was Getting the Sorted; the commander had no chances at delivering a clear strike to someone so fast and agile like Getting (mostly thanks to that magical cape and shield of his).

Bob the Brute then tried and failed to strike against William; just like Getting the Sorted retaliated against Lance Corporal Mooning. While the strike was easy to accomplish, Getting the Sorted found out that his pointy stick isn't particularily good weapon against armored characters!

A second or two later Ulric tried his chances against the slow but heavily protected Baruth the Beard. The mighty morning star swung sideways and struck Baruth on the back, and while the armor absorbed most of the blow, the a rib or two were broken and pain was immense.

It was in that moment that Baruth the Beard found himself in front of Tallow Knight. Without any better idea on mind, Baruth attacked the chainmail-wearing knight with the flail. Clonk! And Tallow Knight faceplanted the ground, never to stand up again. Of lesser note is William's attempt at killing Bob the Brute - it has failed.

Prince Titon grabbed Iolani's arm but she had a sprinted away.

"Not so fast."

"If I may, sir, what are you planning to do?"

"I wanted to have Iolani, Lian and me of course go arrange a chat with Lord Cafvaden. Well, Sen, given Iolani ran off."

"What!? You want to go to the fortress escorted by no-one but a pair of mercenaries? That's ridiculous!"

"Exactly. My enemies think I will show at the front door of the citadel escorted by nobles' children and army of loyal soldiers. With two strangers at my side, I can attempt to find a proxy and-"

"I don't wanna be rude but if you ask me that is the stupidest idea I've ever heard."

"Trust me. I know what I'm doing. By the way, Odysios, could you visit a nearby inn or two and seek some more mercenaries? Hopefully a bunch of axemen."

"Yeah sure, but don't you go with the stupid plan." With that, he moved down the road, hands in pockets, searching for nearest inn.

"Prince Titon, please re-think that idea." Titon waved his hand at Orena.

---

Odysios didn't look for the inn that long. After all, the nearest one was just half a minute walk ahead. He entered a badly lit room which smelled of beer and ale. Not a greatest place but it was the less reputable ones where he could find poor people looking for poor people's money.

He looked around, seeing various men and women seated in places. Some looked like travelers, some like off-duty soldiers, some as plain cutthroats and blades for hire. Titon wanted axemen... Odysios scratched his chin, noticing a trio of individuals, two with axes and one looking a tad bit uncomfortable about his position. The axemen looked pretty relaxed and not in a rush.

Yup.

"Hey, you guys looking for some work maybe?" Odysios walked up to the table, placing his hands on his waist.

~~Chapter 4 Complete!~~

As the battle between the hapless mooks and the terrifying Beast of Hrrrn continued, Prince Titon and his group sneaked away and then ran like hell to avoid confrontation with either the headhunters or the beast.

They have cleared the glade without incident, but accompanied by only one distant, blood-chilling noise...

"HHHRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNN!..."

~~Chapter 4: The Gate to the Eastern Side~~

It took four more days for the Prince and his companions to clear the Glade's Drain, go south along the Pashar river, and then straight east, through the hilly lands that were a barrier between the fertile west and the east comprised of rocky flatlands and sandy badlands. There was also change in overall frequency of distant settlements; before, the group could spot a settlement or outpost or a garrison every so often; on this side of the hills, they saw nothing till the tall, large Castle Cafvaden was on the horizon...

And they have reached the midpoint on their way to the (implied) safety of Carn Fortress on the eastern border. The bustling city of Cafvaden still looked like the old capital; not the bustling city, modeled after the westerners like Kozanthikon or Lorentian cities; no, Cafvaden was proud city of tents and single houses, all clumped behind an earthen wall with the imposing, multi-story castle in the very center.

In the ancient times, a city like this in the middle of badlands was truly a marvelous sight. But the glory of the city have long passed, as there are larger and more populated cities, grander and sturdier castles out there, in the west.

Once inside, no one paid attention to Titon or his guards; the population of the city was busy going after their own affairs, while occassional traveler or trader was busy reaching the eastern, western or southern gate.

"Finally..." Titon procured a small pouch from the inside of his shirt.

"You guys go and buy some supplies. These little precious things might be worth something." Titon opened the pouch, letting numerous small gems and various old coins glitter a little in the sun, before passing them to Lizbeth.
