"None about returning home... Desertion from post, assault and murder of superior officer, providing aid to criminals and if someone notices or noticed me during the war, that's another offense put on me. I believe enough for double death warrant..." Laura made a defeated sigh.
"I will be OK though. I'm neither a heir to my family nor a male, so worst my family can suffer is a stain on honor and few months of rumors. They went through worse. As for my actual fate after this whole business, well, like I told Tomik..." She looked at her feet for a brief moment. "I wanna go somewhere remote, marry a good guy, and cook dinners for his kids and knit socks for our grandchildren and hopefully never ever see any of you again." Laura exhaled. Having finally put these thoughts into words - twice! - had such a cleansing effect on her soul.
"Mmttfftttfff..." Laura gnawed on her bottom lip for a brief second. "Sorry, but if you want to live your crappy life traveling everywhere like a homeless vagrant across potentially scary and unknown lands and places, without any stable foundation or place to come back every night to rest, then I hate so say it but you are a weirdo. I rather like having a stated purpose in life rather having to find it on my own. In fact my very first assignment was my own choice because I stood up to the jerkass assignment clerk and told them all where I would like to be assigned."
