It had texture of well-rosted beef but rather bland taste.

"Is it, umm... tasty? Edible at least?"

~~Enemies Turn!~~

A pair of wyverns could be see high in the skies to the north-west.

"Have you seen anything?"

"I think... so."

"You think?"

"Look, last time it was a boar and before that a fox. Someone should tell Captain Orza that the traitor Prince and his lackeys aren't here. Maybe he could even recall as back to the Palace. I'm hungry. Besides why would anyone send out six full Wings for such-"

"Hmph, will you stop complaining so much? You might be right, but I would rather not have another reprimand on my papers. Let's check this one last area. Paired square pattern?"

"Works with me. You go south."

~~Allies Turn!~~

Titon and Irza slipped into the thicket as well.

"Captain!"

"Shh! They will either fly straight south-east or use one of the patterns the Wings have established for such a situation. We should slowly make our way south-west."

"I... don't know. I would rather hug my tree..."

~~Player Turn 2~~

The rain turned into a dribble.
You can move through the trees as long as you mantain 8 or more tiles of distance from either wyvern rider. Any movement within that range, or through grass and swamp tiles will be discovered. You will also be discovered if a wyvern rider passes through a tile adjacent to yours, and the 'no adjacent' rule is still in effect.

The door couldn't be opened. It had a handle, but the door didn't budge when pulled. There was no lock or mechanism that opens it.

The huge slab of metal didn't move either when Aiesha punched it. This door is impassable at the moment.

CHOP! CHOP!

And the gargoyle brought an enormous plate with two halves of ribcage, steaming after being freshly pulled from the fireplace and the dark red meat sweating with fat. He set the plate down on the table and left a small hatchet on the table.

"Bones are extra sturdy on these beasts. You can cleave separate ribs with this." He nodded at the hatchet, then returned behind his counter.

Aliberti and Rosana didn't look particularily hungry.

14496
"That is ridiculous. Three coins."

"You dare to haggle? Pshaw!"

"Four."

"Nine."

"Five. That's still a lot of gold you will be getting."

"And what am I gonna do with it, melt it down into candlestick? Eight."

"Five."

"Seven."

"Five."

"Bah! Keep your gold and I will just roast a whole lizard ribcage for you. Just stop arguing you cavewood twig." With extremely loud grumbling coming from his throat, the gargoyle began preparing the food, while Aliberti, beaming with manly satisfaction, sat down at nearby table with four stools around it. Rosana sat at his left side.

"I have to ask the mages about... wait, where did Noel go? And Irios for that matter?"

14497
"My companions want to rest, so we should. Can you take us to the nearest inn?"

"Inn?" Prince Aliberti was confused for a moment.

"Uhhh... a place where you can buy food and bedding for a night?"

"Ah, now I understand. We call these houses of rest. There is one in Fort Arrival. I will take you there." Prince and his entourage followed after Akk, who stopped only for a brief moment to allow the guards to open the heavy wooden doors. The timber was seemingly lightweight, as pair of humans opened the gates with ease by simply pushing the doors outwards. Like all the pale folk, they stared curiously at the visitors that the centaur brought in.

Inside the fortress was a rather bleak sight. There was a small wooden building with a flag representing black fist on greyish background. Numerous smaller hovels and houses 'carved' out of the rock floor surrounded it.

"GNARRRLLLLHHH." Some of the spit came from the mouth of an ugly beast; it was a reptile, as tall as a horse, covered in dark green scales, with two tiny beady eyes and two rows of teeth inside its traingle-shaped mouth.

"Easy, easy..." An uniformed man patted the beast, sitting on its back without a sadle. He then struck the sides of the giant lizard with his knees and it took off, slowly walking across the road. Akk didn't mind, but Aurelian, onto whose face the spit flew, probably did.

The Centaur stopped before a building, or rather set of chambers, carved into a small hill. The wooden windows were closed but faint candlelight was shining through the cracks.

"This is 'The First Door', the only inn in this cavern. H'hr is the restmaster. He is elderly, a bit grumpy, and always suspicious of any and every two-legs, so don't mind his remarks. Do you have money?"

"Money from our world... will it be accepted?"

"What kind of metal?"

"Gold?"

"Hmm. If you put enough on the table, H'hr might accept it. Here, underground, iron and steel are more valuable, but minted coins need the Imperial stamp on them. But like I said, gold might do. I will now go and visit the garrison and tell them of you arrival, and questions." With that, the centaur moved further while Prince looked at the resthouse's door.

"People living underground, riding on giant lizards, eating mold and mushrooms for breakfast and considering gold a worthless metal. This world's crazy."

"Come on, Aliberti. We should at least, um, sample the cuisine..." It was Rosana who opened the door and stepped in; her brother followed, and so did his companions.

Inside 'The First Door' were sets of small rock stools and tables; not real furniture, but carved pieces of rock, connected to the floor. Miners and stoneworkers of this crazy world must be quite skilled.

The resthouse wasn't really busy. One man was munching on something in the corner, while a brown-skinned gargoyle was sitting behind a counter - carved from the rock as well - eyeing the newcomers. Once the strangers approached, he lifted his clawed hand and poked Aliberti on cheek.

"Watch it."

"Hmph. Your skin isn't pale. I'm not sure I like sick people in here.

"This is our natural skin color... in the place we live in, at least."

"Ne'er heard of a place where people live with the deadly fireskin, but that is not my business. Roasted mushrooms' a coin, mold ale two, lizard steak three, and meat soup is four but you gonna have to wait. Bed's ten," He looked at the group. "But I only have a single common room with six beds. You do have coins, yes?" Aliberti fished out the group's bag of money and opened it, showing golden coins of his homeland. The gargoyle fished out one, looked it over, bit it, and then put it back to bag.

"Freaky people, freaky coinage, I guess. Hmph. Allright, fine, I will take it. One-to-five ratio, though.

"What!" Rosana stared in disbelief, Aliberti gritted his teeth, the gargoyle shrugged - and a quiet chuckle came from the corner of the resthouse. What to do...

14498
Suddenly a high-pitched horn sound could be heard coming from north-west.

"Damnation, that is Wing's horn. Someone saw something suspicious nearby... Us, or maybe some animal moving. The winged scouts will soon be over here to investigate, anyways." Titon looked at Alice.

"We cannot leave you here; the wyvern riders might question you, or you might be forced to tell them which way we went to save your skin. Either way, I would like to ask you to come with us. Once we are safe, we can part ways if you wish."

~~Player Turn 1~~

"We should make haste along the path. Even if a scout spots us, there will be certainly a delay before he can bring in reinforcements. We might be far from here by that time."

"I would rather hide. Call me a coward if you wish. But this forest is particularily thick in tall trees. If we all scatter under the canopy of these leafy trees and not move, the scouts might pass us without noticing us. Captain, you and Lizbeth will have to dismount though, and keep your horses quiet."

"Prince, if this gambit fails..."

"Then we will have to run. Or, if the fate is against us, fight big, scaly, armored backbone of Arvadian Military. I'm too well aware of that fact, Captain..."

Objectives:
Make a run for it and safely evacuate from the map via south-western passage. Any unit that enters the green-lit area is removed from map and considered 'safe'.
OR
Hide in the trees, keeping at least 1 tile of distance from each other, and do not move while wyvern scouts fly around the map. Mounted units will be spotted unless their riders dismount.

The rain is getting weaker. It might stop soon.

Akk led the group closer and closer to the cave entrace. Soon Prince's companions could see faces peeking from small holes around the cave entrance. They were all human faces, pale and greyish-haired, in dark uniforms.

Once the bleak sun was hidden by the high ceiling of the cavern, people from small buildings and shacks began to stare at the newcomers intently, especially at their faces; the colorful hair, non-pale skin and sparkling eyes surely made an impression at the humans dwelling here. Some centaurs looked as well, but the ratio of humans-to-monsters was definitely favoriting the later. Amongst the monsters, bat-winged gargoyles and tall wolf-headed men were rarer.

But the entrance settlement was soon left behind as Akk continued with the descent.

Soon, the glow of the surface was replaced by dim yellow, orange, red and even purple light of some strange mushrooms coating the walls and the ceiling of the tunnel that was snaking down into the depths of the mountains.

After yet another undetermined, lengthy period of time, they have reached the 'bottom' and Akk led them into large cavern with ceiling so high that clouds seemingly formed at the top. Here, a large wooden lantern shone under the ceiling, providing light.

"Noon, noon, noon!" Some young man yelled across the field of large, puffy-looking white and yellow mushrooms. He was ringing a small hand-held bell, but people who were tending these 'mushroom farms' didn't pay attention as the lantern above their heads suddenly shone much brighter.

A large fortress of grey and brown stone was standing in the middle of the cave, and it seemed that Akk was leading the group right there.

"This is Fort Arrival, smallest of all castles of the underground humans. It's so small it does not even have a stables for the giant lizards."

"Giant lizards?"

"Yes, the only livestock of those who live here. The feathery birds and the fat furry things of the surface are the only other sources of red meat. There's plenty of cave fish, lobsters and olms in the cave rivers, though. We also thrive on lichen, mold and mushrooms. Incidentally, are you hungry? Thirsty?"

"Uh... I guess that until we fix our device, we are in no real rush anywhere. Who's hungry?"

"Hummmm. We will rest for now and return later in force. Buh-bye!" The last giant dissappeared in a puff of smoke. The thick mists surrounding most of people around dissappeared as well and only the thin pink wisps remained; and even these began to dissipate.

Chalco Pyritos and Vera Allester escape successfully!

~~Prologue Complete!~~

The horses, wyvern and pegasus were mounted quite fast and then Prince Titon and his retainers rushed through the door on the other side of the stables, distant cries of pain and clashing of weapons still heard as just few axemen and their sergeant managed to get to the entrance of the stables. Sergeant have lost his helmet and his head was bleeding while he was pointing and shouting after the fleeing entourage.

Alas, pointing and shouting was all he could do.

Sentries on the walls weren't particularily active or where lost in the chaos as Prince Titon and his friends rushed through the gatehouse, through the drawbridge, and then they were free, following the path to the Alvadian Glade.

The only forest in day's travel that could help them escape certain death.

~~Chapter 1: Aftershock~~

Outskirts of Arvadian Glade, half an hour later

The wyvern, not accustomed to heavy weights such as fully armored Chalco, rebelled and fled a while ago, just as the prince's horse broke its ankle and was left behind. Things didn't look that well for the escapees. However, they had no other choice than continue forward, through the deep forest...

Prince Titon marched through the thicket, no longer having a mighty steed that could help him cruise between the trees.

"...I see. So Minister Lafach somehow convinced your great-grandfather to disown both you and Prince Asmal and grant the title of Emperor to the ministry?" Captain Irza followed behind the Prince, keeping her eyes on him.

"I think he must have created the documents himself... as the last time I heard of the Succession Treaty, I was going to be the next Emperor. I can't believe that Gash III, even in his advanced age, would change his mind like that. I will think on this later... now, we must get to the other side of the Glade. Then... then we will go somewhere. I need allies if I want to stop Lafach's rule as an Emperor. He is greedy, harsh and never held a weapon. Such a man cannot be a good Emperor."

Captain Irza didn't respond, just followed Prince...

...till he dissappeared with a gasp and rustling of branches!

"Prince Titon!"

Prince Titon, in the meanwhile, have finished his descend down this slippery slope and his face was firmly planted between the knees of a cloaked girl that was resting under a big oak. He lifted himself and rubbed the back of his head.

"Gah! Sorry! I didn't mean to assault you! I mean fall fo- ON you! Thousand apologies!" He quickly rose to his feet, a little red on his face, as his retainers caught up with him.
