The thugs began to converge on the soldiers; one of them actually got close enough to axe Rashida a painful question! She replied with black flames that missed their target by a notch.

"Ruffians, you're not worthy of Zorostra!" Prince Aliberti took out his smaller sword, moved up to a bandit, and pierced his face via left eye socket, killing the poor thug instantly.

"You're heading in wrong direction. That band of three there is our immediate concern and the hole in the wall could be a chokepoint. Don't run into the fray with far enemies before you deal with those close to you! But anyways, don't worry, I shall take on these three myself."

"Aah, that explains a lot." He looked at each of his new companions once again, giving Hafiz a longer glance, and then he turned toward Grand Alchemist and Royal Priest.

"That would be all for formalities. Onto the task, please." The two elders bowed gently, before the Royal Priest began to speak.

"As you all know, the great and infallible Zorostrians have been scouring the world in search for pieces of the Orb of Eternity for eight centuries. Up till fifteen years ago, when our scriers and mystics determined that there are no pieces left on the continent."

"Despite the New Moon getting closer. Now the search is being resumed, why? Have the mages of previous generation lied to us?"

"No, Prince... and yes, a bit. They were right that there are no pieces on this world, but they weren't right that there are no pieces left at all." Prince blinked slowly.

"I'm lost, Mullah."

"What I mean is that there are some pieces left in other worlds. Continents we have not discovered. Planar dimensions of magic that no one ventured to. Worlds we do not know about yet. Maybe in the stars, or maybe deep underground, or maybe in some other universe or celestial sphere that our small world is enclosed in? Esoteric scrying brought us an answer; we need to send someone to these other worlds, inhabited by other people and creatures beyond reasoning, and recover the remaining pieces. It took us fifteen years to come up with devices and rituals and incantations that could transport someone from this world, to the worlds which contain the fragments."

"That's... that's fairly exciting thought. No wonder my- King have decided to send someone like me. So, how shall we accomplish this all? This... miraculous travel to other places?"

"The transporation magic have been always a thing. I, together with many scholars, and members of the Orders of Mystus, just had to extesively improve it."

"And the Alchemists under my watchful eye have created two artifacts that shall aid you in your search." The humble Grand Alchemist stepped up to the Prince and handed him two items: a silvery mirror with black glass, and a small brooch with closed rose made of gold.

"Listen carefully, Prince, and listen you all just in case. This mirror, when rubbed, shall point you to the crystal, and with it help our ritual shall bring you to the proximity of the fragment in the first place. The mirror will not tell you the distance or what obstacles lie between you and the fragment, so be prepared. The brooch has a small button on it." The Prince turned the brooch upside down, and indeed, there was a button near the base of the rose.

"When you press the button, the rose will open and the mechanism of brass and magical gemstones shall start its work. Then you must have one of your mages in your group to energize it. It shall act like a beacon for our scries and mystics, who shall then perform the ritual of return and bring you back. When the rose is closed, the brooch will use its inner magics to translate your speech to that of the locals." The Prince pocketed the mirror and put the brooch onto his left wrist.

"I will be feeling better not knowing the dangers of a mishap or wrongly cast spell. Mullah, Aldbaran, cast your magic. We're all-" The Prince glanced at his companions, his retainers.

"We're all ready to go." The two elders looked at each other, and then Royal Priest clapped his hands twice.

A bunch of magicians, all robed and hooded, entered the hall. Or maybe they were waiting in the shadows all the time. Together with Royal Priest, they formed a circle around Prince and his group, while Grand Alchemist stepped away from the ritual.

"Good luck, Prince Aliberti!" Grand Alchemist spoke with cheerful voice. Prince Aliberti smiled, while Mullah and his magicians began to chant in unison.

"I'm Zorostrian Prince, and I have all confidence in myself and my retainers, Grand Alchemist! I don't need-" Bright yellow-pink-red-blue-white light flooded the eyes of everyone, before dissipating as quickly as it have appeared...

Powerful winds blasted white sand and black dust onto Prince Aliberti and his retainers. They were now standing amidst ruins. Ruins of once great and advanced city; large stone buildings were encased in glass or had metal wires and pillars protruding from them. Magnificent shiny towers climbed into the skies, far beyond any Zorostrian watchtower ever did, their walls charred and crumbled from once fierce conflict. Black road of dull material stretched in the west, thinly covered with sand, with small craters interrupting it's almost ideally straight course.

"...luck." The Prince lifted his gauntlet-covered hand to protect his eyes from a gust of wind and dust. He then looked at the strange buildings of alien architecture.

"I did not expect THAT kind of... bizarre." Suddenly, a pile of rubble moved and a ragged, tough looking man, quite hairy, looked at the Prince. The stranger was standing in midst of a small building that once maybe was a house.

"Oh, uh, locals. Let's try. Greetings! Do not be afraid! I am- wait!" Prince looked at the man who for some strange reason began to run away!

"Boooooss! Boooss, someone's on our turf! Fancy guys! I think dem from Chicago!!" Suddenly, Prince and his entourage had a whole bunch of shaggy, unwashed and rather angry strangers staring at them.

"I ain't got time for dis again! Gett'em chopped up and loot their corpses! Is da last time they get on our turf like dat!" The gang of strangers prepared for combat.

"Well, I don't know what they're talking about to be honest, but I understand they're not friendly. Fight time it is!"

"Good. Now." The Prince left Rashida alone for now and turned to three others.

"You, you and you." He looked at Maribel, Chance and Hafiz. "You three seem strangely familiar, why?"

16406
"Once we're done with this task, Rashida, I will have you back as a tutor for my siblings. My sisters speak highly of you, unless there's another Rashida in this Palace."

16407
"I see..." The Prince turned toward the window for a brief moment.

"Fine, Grand Alchemist it is. I wished that someone more important would order me around, but if it's that old man, so be it. Come! Let's not make him wait too long." Prince Aliberti marched outside his room in soldier's pace, his two swords, hidden in scabbards, knocking gently against his lacquered armor at his waist.

"And I told you you would look pretty with colorful hair, Kerr." The Prince added, with a snicker, after a moment.

To get to the Inner Palace from the Royal Chambers, one had to pass through the open corridors that encircled the Second Courtyard. Which means people were exposed to the weather; the hot, dust-filled wind eagerly attacked the Prince and his two companions, but Aliberti wasn't bothered by such simple sandstorm.

After all, there was ice-storm last week. Now that was a nuisance...

"I think that's Grand Alchemist. And I see Royal Priest Mullah too. And who are these others...?" The Prince's voice went quiet as they have entered the Hall of Pillars; one of many in the Inner Palace. Each Hall had its primary function, but most could be used as simple gathering places if necessary.

The Prince, flanked by his two soldiers, stopped in front of Aldbaran and Mullah. The two elders bowed deeply, and the latter, with wave of the hand, ordered those eight behind him to do the same.

"May the Angels bless you, Prince Aliberti." The two elders spoke together, and the Prince nodded.

"Likewise. Where is my mother? And where is the King? I heard something important is to begin today, so why are they not here? Why it was you who have called for me?"

"Oh, Prince Aliberti, your Mother, Lady Sharia, is currently in the Grand Court, presiding over the case of the murder of her cousin. As for the King himself, he was heading to the Rose Pavilion the last time I saw him." Prince Aliberti grimaced. Those acquitained with the Court well enough knew what kind of chamber Rosy Pavilion was and just how many young ladies can fit in its beds at once.

"I see. They're busy, then. Why was I called here?"

"O, Prince Aliberti, these are the people who shall accompany you on the mission to recover the missing pieces of Orb of Eternity!"

"And that's what will begin today, our beloved Prince. We shall resume the search for the remaining pieces of the Orb. The King himself requested that you lead the effort. I hold a sincere belief that with you leading this noble endeavour, it will surely succeed."

"Royal Priest is right! But let these young people introduce themselves. We have hand-picked them from all the available mercenaries and reservist soldiers of good standing, courage and skill-"

"Reservists? Mercenaries? Who am I to be guarded by such a group? Why haven't my fa- the King sent, for example, half of the Royal Guard with me? Or at least one fifth. Does he think I would carelessly let out soldiers die? No matter, these people will do. I will show my- the King that I can be victorious no matter who is with me." The Prince turned to the strangers and began to inspect them closely. He didn't say anything when looking over the most of them...

He have stopped by the dark-skinned girl.

"And a girl from Shari-Val." His tone of voice indicated that he wasn't particularily happy about the choice. But of course, every client state was the same - on paper. He couldn't really do anything about it.

"Well, don't be afraid to say your names. After all, you will be under my command, for a while..."

...For the last eight hundred years, the mighty Zorostrian Empire ruled the known world with iron fist, while the scholars and holy men scoured the land for the pieces of the powerful Orb of Eternity.

With the arrival of the New Moon, which is descending toward the world, the Zorostrians frantically tried to recover the missing pieces. Alas, in last fifteen years, not a single piece was found.

Today, it was going to change.

~~Prologue: Heralds of the Empire~~

Prince Aliberti was standing near the window, glaring the thunderstorm that was lingering over the capital city. Dark clouds, tinted with crimson and brown hues, were flashing brightly while the lightning coursed inside them, or traveled down to the ground.

The changes in weather were more frequent and more unpredictable than before. Yesterday, it was raining. This morning, the orange sun was shining, partially shadowed by the red sphere of the New Moon. Now, few hours after the zenith, there was a thunderstorm.

There was a knock on the door, but the Prince kept staring outside. A moment later, the knocking was repeated, and the Prince finally turned toward the door.

"You may enter." He watched the door open, and a slight smile appeared on his face.

"Kerr, Aurelian. What brings you here? Have the elders, or the King, finally decided to call for my presence? Do you know anything? Tell me everything you've been told."

//Kerr and Aurelian Wolfgar are now in!
