You decide to give her some more time.

808 NWE, Late Spring

Another letter arrives from Count Levipro. His guests are getting restless and are complaining about being kept away from reaching the objective of their journey, and demand to see you.

The Spymaster meets with you that same afternoon.

"Apologies, my liege, but my agents have yet to find any knowledge about the distant land of Perun."

You decide to...

A) Have the foreigners visit the capital city.
B) Have Count Levipro try to keep them at his estate for some more time.
C) Have Count Levipro send the travelers back 'home'.

"Find me some information about this 'Perun' place and its people. Count Levipro shall host these travelers until then."

The council has ended; the Spymaster sets about on his tasks as the audience hall slowly empties.

808 NWE, Mid-Spring

You've been patient about it, but - its been a month since the start of new year, yet Hege still has to invite you to her bedroom or move back to yours.

A) I shall invite myself into her bed then! I am her husband and her King, after all.
B) She probably needs a little more time.
C) Let's have a talk.
D) Let's reignite the flames of love with a magnificent gift! A gem-encrusted dress embroidered with golden thread should do the trick.

You orders peasants drafted to fill the Army ranks.

808 NWE, Spring

You receive a letter from Count Levipro, from the northwest of Rug.

In the letter, he reports that a group of travelers from 'the land of Perun' and one of them is called apparently a Prince. Apparently, these travelers are looking for King of Rug because you and their monarch have common enemy in Fomorians. According to the travelers' words, Perun lies beyond the northern mountains, behind a valley of lakes and across a gorge so deep its bottom cannot be discerned.

During a meeting, the Advisor states the obvious.

"Sire, never before in our lore has there been any mention of the land of Perun." The Spymaster rubs his beard thoughtfully.

"I could ask my sources in the west to ascertain whether their traders and adventurers know of the Perun." The Marshal scoffs.

"Nonsense! These are charlatans, trying to swindle something from our good King under pretense of being some 'foreign' nobility! We ought to dungeon them immediately as example to other schemers!"

The argument goes for a while but ultimately you need to reach a decision...

A) Count Levipro must turn them away.
B) Have Count Levipro accomodate the guests while Spymaster gathers information of this 'land of the Perun'.
C) These are joyous news! We shall make history by establishing ties with this new, unknown land and its peoples.
D) To the dungeon with them! I'm sure Count Levipro's can fit them all.

You decide to perservere, but also to visit the royal library a little more often.

It takes a month for you to get back onto your feet, but fortunately the Advisor and rest of the court were able to run the country just fine during that brief period.

Its that time of the year!

Happiness: 5
Population: 6

Army: 3

Those are decent numbers, but you scratch your chin at that last one. The Advisor easily picks up the hint.

"With the state of the Kingdom as it is, I believe that drafting peasants into ranks of soldiers wouldn't cause too much displeasure amongst the commoners, your Majesty."

A) "Make it so."
B) "Nah, no need to."

You shake off the dishonorable thoughts and go talk to your wife.

Quote
4*

Morning turns into afternoon turns into evening before you leave Hege's bedchamber.

She no longer hates you, that's for sure, but she would prefer to mourn in privacy some more, until end of the year. She was worried that you might leave her or turn to another due to her hatred, but your steadfastness apparently helped.

That doesn't solve the urges of your body, however.

A) I shall be of strong will and persevere! If not - to the library!
B) Just this one time...

You order that sacrifices both material and spiritual be delivered upon the altars of the Old Gods.

807 NWE, Winter

Beautiful lips. Luscious hair. Refined speech. Nicely-sized assets, and that intriguing smirk.

You're not thinking about Hege, of course, as she moved to a separate bedroom, but its hard to stay loyal when your loins stir at the sight of the beautiful young woman whenever she passes you in the corridor, curtsies and says 'Good day, Your Majesty' with that soft, pleasant voice of hers.

A) Even more reasons to talk with Hege and repair our relationship!
B) I will remain loyal to my wife, even if that means a life of celibacy! And there's plenty of scriptures in the library anyway.
C) The days are getting shorter and nights are getting colder, after all...

There were errors in rice summary and on the map, because Jin conquered Song province.

As Maximum Spin sent his orders already, he can re-send them using the freshly updated map.

I though Zhou counted as a Kingdom type? If so, I'm missing a +5.

It's the imperial city, not a Kingdom state.

You send the Army to weed out the criminal elements in the southlands.

The campaign against the bandits was a mildly successful one, and caused few hundred casualties amongst the soldiers. But still, the bandit lords are dead, their cohorts dead or scattered, and the Army was able to return home before the harvest time.

807 NWE, Autumn

And speaking of harvest.

This year, it has been below mediocre. While there's no risk of famine, people wonder if it has something to do with the strange weather patterns as of late, or perhaps the bright new star visible in the area of the night sky where it was dark and dim before.

A) Nonsense. Get back to work!
B) The One of the New Church ought to bring us good harvests. Deliver sacrifices unto his temples!
C) The Old Gods ought to guarantee better harvest next time. Deliver sacrifices unto their altars!

You decide to be a good husband and talk with her.

Quote

Your attempt was laden with good intentions, but your tone of voice and the choice of words did nothing to alleviate Hege's worries and depression. Instead, what was supposed to be a supprotive conversation descnded into a blame game; Hege blaming your sickly body for inferior seed, and you blaming Hege for intentionally killing your child.

After a long while of loud argument laden with expletives, Hege shrieks and throws a silver goblet at your face before storming out of her bedchamber, crying and sobbing inelegantly. You rub the cut on your cheek before calling in the servants to see the wound.

You couldn't have done worse than this.

807 NWE, Summer

Its been two weeks since Hege stopped talking to you.

But you have more important matters to attend to right now.

"According to the reports, bandit activity in the southern province of Malgamate is worrying high, your Majesty." Explains the Advisor, glancing from scroll to scroll, a pile on your desk. "Its undoubtedly that these bandits are 'warming up', for lack of better word, before perhaps launching attacks at your tax collectors, or worse, the winter-time caravans of silver bullion. Local governors have asked for the Crown to provide soldiers to deal with this steadily growing problem."

A) "No! Its their roads, their land, their responsibility."
B) "Fine then, send some troops to hunt down the criminal scum."
C) "Such tasks are below our Army; instead, send the governors some money to recruit an adventurer group or four."

You decide that the silver mines are a priority.

The Treasurer leaves to make proper arrangements to get the mine's manager equipment, supplies and workers.

806 NWE, Midwinter

After the news that Hege is pregnant once again began circulating the court, local noblemen have been pouring in to partake in your wine and toast for the good health of your family and the unborn child.

806 NWE, Late Winter

A letter arrives from Kingdom of Dam, carried by a merchant.

In the letter, Nyll, King of Dam, expressed gratitude to the powers-that-be of Kingdom of Rug for making a wise choice and returning to Damians their territories.

The matter of delivery of the letter, as well as its shortness, made few courtiers grumble in discontent. But, perhaps, King Nyll is simply uncharismatic, or not much of a writer.

806 NWE, End of the Year

The year came and went, but the Advisor is always on time to deliver the Scrolls of Kingdom Status onto your desk.

Happiness: 4
Population: 6
Economy: 3
Army: 3

You look at the numbers, then at the Advisor, who strokes his long beard.

"I cannot fathom any suggestion at the moment, your Majesty."

You agree - the numbers are decent enough.

807 NWE, Spring

A letter arrives from the southern mountains; the investment into the mines' recovery turned out for the good, as the flooded levels were pumped out of water and the bothersome underground river plugged. The mining of silver ore have already resumed, and the delivery should be expected as usual, in the Winter season.

807 NWE, Mid-Spring

Quote
1

Despite you holding Hege's hand, she cannot stop crying. The nurses quietly wrap the blood-stained bundle in clean towels and carry it away.

Hege has miscarried, by some cruel order of the beings responsible for human fate.

The entire court soon goes into mourning.

807 NWE, Late Spring

The more you look at her, the more you worry. And it's not just you, either - your courtiers have began to notice that Queen Hege is extremely unlike her usual, polite and energetic self; she is harsh to her maidservants and berates them for slightest of reasons, before turning to gloom and melancholy for hours upon a time. Other ladies have offered to talk with her about their own misfortunes like this, but Hege has been unmoved by their support, and even threw several of her best friends out of the castle.

You wonder if there's any way to help her...

A) Obviously, a grandiose garden full of exotic flowers will draw her attention away!
B) Nobody but time itself can help her heal her wounds.
C) Mayhaps an unicorn foal or some other exotic, rare animal, will be a good companion for her?
D) I must talk to her myself. By whatever means necessary, I ought to help her forget the demise of the little one.
E) Finest items of clothing and most precious jewelry pieces could do the trick.
F) An opulent sarcophagus for our unborn child will offer her some closure - right?
